Browns released OG Jason Pinkston with an injury settlement.
27-year-old Pinkston has battled recurring blood clots in his lungs. "More than likely I'll have to retire," Pinkston acknowledged. "The Browns were great working with me and I would love to thank GM Ray Farmer and Owner Jimmy Haslam for my opportunity here in Cleveland." A once-promising 2011 fifth-round pick out of Pittsburgh, Pinkston made 24 starts across three seasons with the Browns. Mon, Aug 4, 2014 04:02:00 PM

Browns G Jason Pinkston (undisclosed) is not practicing.

There was some speculation Pinkston was holding out for financial reasons, but that wouldn't make sense for a player who appeared in three games last season. "Jason Pinkston has not been medically cleared to participate in football activities," the Browns and Pinkson's agents said in a joint statement. "The team has been in communication with Jason and his representatives and will respect their wishes to not provide any further details at this time."

Browns G Jason Pinkston sustained a concussion in Sunday's Week 16 loss to the Jets.

Pinkston appeared in just three games this season as he battled a high-ankle sprain.

Browns activated RG Jason Pinkston (ankle) from injured reserve/designated to return.

Pinkston suffered a high-ankle sprain in the Browns' second preseason game, but was given a 4-6 week timetable to return. He should be 100 percent. Pinkston could immediately supplant Shawn Lauvao at right guard. Lauvao has graded out as a bottom-12 guard in Pro Football Focus' ratings.

Browns placed RG Jason Pinkston (ankle) on injured reserve/designated to return.

The move clears a spot for Billy Cundiff on the active roster. Pinkston suffered a high-ankle sprain in the Browns' second preseason game and won't be eligible to return before Week 9. Oniel Cousins will start at right guard until Shawn Lauvao (ankle surgery) gets healthy.

Browns RG Jason Pinkston (high-ankle sprain) will be sidelined 4-6 weeks.

Pinkston's initial recovery timetable was set at 2-4 weeks, but it appears he could be in danger of missing the first month of the regular season. Seventh-rounder Garrett Gilkey will start in his place for the time being, but the Browns may opt to scour the waiver-wire once teams start trimming rosters.
Sat, Aug 17, 2013 01:18:00 PM

Browns coach Rob Chudzinski acknowledged RG Jason Pinkston's high right ankle sprain will "probably" extend into the regular season.

Once one of the NFL's better-off teams at guard, Cleveland is now perilously thin with Pinkston and Shawn Lauvao (ankle surgery) both on the shelf. The Browns may begin searching the free agent market, with only raw late-round rookie Garrett Gilkey left as the best option to play opposite LG John Greco.

Browns RG Jason Pinkston (high-ankle sprain) will miss the rest of the preseason, and is questionable for Week 1.

X-rays revealed no ligament damage, so things could have been worse. Pinkston's timeline is officially 2-4 weeks. With Week 1 just 23 days away, that makes Pinkston very dicey for the opener, but the Browns have incentive to rush him with seventh-rounder Garrett Gilkey the starter in his absence. We'd guess Pinkston plays against the Dolphins.

Browns RG Jason Pinkston suffered a high right ankle sprain in Thursday's preseason game.

ESPN Cleveland calls the injury "severe." Pinkston was on crutches and in a walking boot in the locker room. He's doubtful for Week 1, and perhaps beyond. It's a major problem for the Browns, as backup Shawn Lauvao is recovering from ankle surgery. That leaves seventh-rounder Garrett Gilkey as the apparent starter. It's rough timing for Pinkston, who appeared all the way back from the blood clot that ended his 2012 season.

Jason Pinkston will be the Browns' starting right guard this season.

Shawn Lauvao's training-camp ankle surgery locks in Pinkston. A brawling former left tackle at Pitt, Pinkston was really coming on as a 2012 starter before suffering a blood clot in his lung, which ended his season. The Browns have an impressive O-Line on paper, which from left to right reads LT Joe Thomas, LG John Greco, C Alex Mack, RG Pinkston, and RT Mitchell Schwartz.

ESPN Cleveland expects Shawn Lauvao and Jason Pinkston to compete at right guard.

John Greco appears to be locked in at one guard spot, leaving Pinkston and Lauvao to compete for the other. Pinkston and Lauvao opened 2012 as the starters, but it was Greco who shined during Pinkston's 10-game absence due to a blood clot in his lung. Pinkston is the favorite provided he's healthy.

Browns LG Jason Pinkston (blood clot in lung) is participating in OTAs.

Pinkston was on his way to a breakout season prior to landing on IR in Week 7. He's back as the likely starting left guard for a unit our Evan Silva ranks sixth in the league.

Browns LG Jason Pinkston (blood clot in lung) tweeted on Monday that he has been 100 percent medically cleared.

However, Pinkston is not expected to participate in this week's voluntary pre-draft minicamp. Pro Football Focus graded Pinkston as a top-25 guard prior to his Week 7 placement on injured reserve. If he keeps progressing well, the 25-year-old should be ready for OTAs.

Browns LG Jason Pinkston tweeted Wednesday that the blood clot in his right leg is now gone.

A pulmonary embolism ended Pinkston's 2012 season after six starts. The Browns still don't know his availability for 2013, but it sounds like his recovery is progressing. A promising brawler in the trenches, Pinkston is still only 25 years old. Cleveland does have a rock-solid left guard backup in John Greco.
Thu, Mar 28, 2013 09:20:00 PM

The Browns won't be sure of LG Jason Pinkston's (blood clot in lung) 2013 status for "a while."

The word comes from new coach Rob Chudzinski. Pinkston was previously expected to have a "normal" offseason, and that should still end up the case. Pinkston is the favorite to keep his left guard job in 2013.
