Falcons signed RB Evan Royster, formerly of the Redskins.

With Devonta Freeman, Tevin Coleman, and now Antone Smith all hobbled by hamstring injuries, this was a needed addition to Atlanta's backfield. Royster, 27, spent 2014 out of football after being waived by the Redskins. He has a history with new Falcons OC Kyle Shanahan, under whom Royster averaged over five yards per carry on 81 attempts in 2011-2012. Royster has not had an NFL carry since the end of the 2012 season, however. He is a between-the-tackles grinder with limited passing-game chops.

Redskins waived RB Evan Royster.

Royster averaged 5.1 YPC with 25 receptions across three seasons in the Shanahan run game, but the new Redskins regime had no use for him due to special teams limitations. Zone-running teams might like Royster as a potential No. 3 back. At worst, he's a functional and versatile reserve.

Redskins RB Evan Royster is expected to be on the roster bubble in 2014 training camp.

Washington's No. 3 back behind Alfred Morris and Roy Helu, Royster earned all of two carries last season before landing on injured reserve with a December ankle injury. Royster was an ineffective special teamer, a critical role for third-string running backs. Expect 2013 late-round draft picks Chris Thompson and/or Jawan Jamison to push hard for Royster's 2014 roster spot.

Redskins placed RB Evan Royster on injured reserve with an ankle injury, ending his season.

Royster's Week 14 injury appeared significant on the field, as he could put no weight on the limb afterwards. A thoroughly underwhelming talent whose prospective fantasy value was always tied directly to the Shanahans' running scheme, Royster will be no lock to make Washington's 53-man roster in 2014.

Evan Royster was forced from Sunday's game against the Chiefs with an ankle injury.

Royster could put no weight on his ankle as he was helped off the field, and was immediately carted to the locker room. He's been diagnosed with a high-ankle sprain. Seeing time at fullback with Darrel Young inactive, Royster had one catch for three yards before going down.

Evan Royster has appeared in just seven games this season, recording zero carries.

He's Washington's No. 3 tailback behind Alfred Morris and Roy Helu, who have both stayed healthy. Royster hasn't so much as played an offensive snap this year. He does have one tackle on special teams, but isn't a core special teamer for Washington. Royster is under contract for $645,000 in 2014.

The Washington Post projects Evan Royster to lose his roster spot to Keiland Williams.

Ouch. Royster was the Redskins' nominal third-down back last season, but failed to make any sort of a positive impact. Williams appeared in 14 games between the Redskins and Lions, but notched just two carries. Both players contribute on special teams. The Post also has the Redskins cutting rookies Jawan Jamison and Chris Thompson.

Redskins RB Evan Royster has 14 carries for 62 yards in the preseason.

Royster is expected to make the 53 because he plays on special teams, but he lacks fantasy value. Red-hot Roy Helu is the handcuff to Alfred Morris.
Sun, Aug 25, 2013 01:51:00 PM

Redskins coach Mike Shanahan was "really impressed" with Evan Royster and Roy Helu's performances in Thursday's preseason opener.

Helu rushed 13 times for 57 yards, while Royster took the rock 14 times for 62 yards. "I thought Royster did a great job when he was in there," Shanahan said. "I’ve got to take a look at film, but my initial thoughts were I’m very impressed with both." Royster is squarely on the bubble, but eliciting public praise from his coach is a good sign. Ideally, Helu would serve as the Redskins' third-down back while Royster acted as more of a direct backup to Alfred Morris. It's unclear where rookies Chris Thompson and Jawan Jamison fit.

The Washington Post confirms Redskins third-year RB Evan Royster is on the roster bubble in training camp.

Royster was seen as the favorite to start in many circles for much of 2012 training camp, but Alfred Morris ran with the tailback job and is now entrenched. Royster offers little passing-down ability, and does not contribute on special teams. The Redskins also added two running backs in April's draft.

CSN Washington considers RB Evan Royster on the roster bubble.

Royster had just 23 carries as a backup to Alfred Morris last season and will compete for a roster spot with Roy Helu and fifth-round RB Chris Thompson. Seventh-round pick Jawan Jamison is a candidate for practice squad.

Evan Royster rushed twice for nine yards in Washington's Week 17 win over the Cowboys.

Alfred Morris' handcuff and Washington's usual third-down back, Royster will finish 2012 with just 23 rushes for 88 yards. He added 15 catches for 109 yards. With Morris now established as one of the league's top backs, Royster's Dynasty league value is hazy bordering on nonexistent.

Evan Royster (knee) is practicing in full this week.

Royster was limited in practice the past two weeks, but has yet to miss a game. He'll serve in his typical third-down role against the Vikings.

Evan Royster (knee, questionable) was limited in Redskins practice Friday.

Royster was listed as probable in Week 4 after going through the same week-long practice routine, so this is a downgrade. He still seems likely to be available behind Alfred Morris for Sunday's game against the Falcons.
