The Pittsburgh defense will likely face Cleveland quarterback Austin Davis in Week 17 as Johnny Manziel deals with concussion issues.
The Browns managed just three points and 273 total yards of offense in Davis' only other start of the season, with Davis throwing for 230 yards and an interception. The matchup makes the Steelers D/ST worth a look as a streaming option in fantasy leagues this week even after a disappointing effort against Baltimore's Ryan Mallett in Week 16. The Steelers will likely face either Jimmy Clausen or Ryan Mallett at quarterback in Week 16 when they travel to Baltimore.

Coach Gary Kubiak has yet to announce a starter, and Clausen, Mallett, as well as Matt Schaub are all potentially in the mix to start. No matter who is under center for Baltimore, the Steelers D/ST will be an excellent choice in fantasy leagues this week, as the Ravens have turned the ball over at least twice in every game since Joe Flacco was injured. Kubiak should announce a starter in coming days but the Steelers D/ST should be owned in fantasy leagues immediately.

The Pittsburgh defense will look to take advantage of the Denver offensive line that allowed five sacks in Week 14.

The Denver offense was terrorized by Oakland LB Khalil Mack last week, who was responsible for all five sacks allowed by the Broncos. This week, Pittsburgh will look to keep pressure on Brock Osweiler. "But he does make some good throws. He does have a good arm and he’s done a good job for them. I know he’s given up more sacks. That’s not all his fault all the time. We have to try to do as much as we can to take advantage of him and get to the quarterback," said Pittsburgh DC Keith Butler. The Steelers D/ST is worth a look as a Week 15 streaming option and also gets a nice matchup with Baltimore in Week 16.

Pittsburgh has allowed over 300 passing yards in three of their last four contests.

The Steelers shut down the Indianapolis passing game in Week 13, but gave up big yardage leading up to that game. On the season, Pittsburgh is 29th in pass defense, allowing 275.5 yards through the air each week and will be a mid-tier option in Week 14 on the road at Cincinnati. The Steelers D/ST is not worth starting in fantasy leagues this week, but is a worthwhile bench add looking forward to a Week 16 date at Baltimore.

With Seattle running back Marshawn Lynch (sports-hernia surgery) ruled out, the Pittsburgh defense will attempt to corral rookie RB Thomas Rawls on Sunday.

Rawls is coming off a monstrous 255-total yard performance in Week 11 and is averaging a beefy 6.0 yards per carry this season. In games in which he has received 16 or more carries, Rawls has run for 132.5 yards per game and 6.2 yards per tote. The Steelers D/ST will have its hands full with the powerful rookie and will be a mid-tier fantasy option in Week 12.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have been successful while rushing the passer in 2015, with the help of their linebacker rotation.

Outside linebackers coach Joey Porter talked to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette about rotating linebackers this season to keep them fresh. "If you think you’re getting a fresh rush when a guy’s rushing 50 times and you’re getting his best rush, you’re not. I mean, your energy is going to go down, you’re going to do a rush that has no juice on it," said Porter. The Steelers are fourth among NFL defenses with 28 sacks this season and will face Seattle in Week 12 after a Week 11 bye.

The Pittsburgh defense faces an intriguing home matchup with Cleveland in Week 10, who is 29th in scoring offense at 19.7 points per game.

The Browns also check in at 31st among NFL teams in rushing offense, averaging a paltry 82.3 rushing yards per game. With a lackluster running game and a dinged-up quarterback in Josh McCown (ribs), the matchup with Cleveland makes the Steelers D/ST worth streaming consideration in fantasy leagues this week.

The Pittsburgh defense has struggled with pass defense in 2015, allowing opposing passers to throw for 276.9 passing yards per game with a 68.8 completion percentage.

Both marks are in the bottom-five among NFL defenses, and the Steelers D/ST will have its hands full as the Cincinnati Bengals visit Heinz Field on Sunday. Cincinnati has the NFL's fifth-best passing offense, registering 288.2 passing yards per game, and will make the Steelers D/ST a risky fantasy option in Week 8.

The Pittsburgh Steelers travel to Kansas City to face the Chiefs on Sunday, who are struggling to run the ball without Jamaal Charles.

The Chiefs' offense turned in an ugly performance last week in a 16-10 loss to Minnesota, where they did not score until the fourth quarter. Charcandrick West and Knile Davis attempted to fill the running void left by injured RB Jamaal Charles, but the pair combined for just 46 yards on 14 carries and 3.3 yards per attempt. The Steelers D/ST will be a middling fantasy option this week, but should have a chance to be successful if they can keep the Chiefs' running attack from gaining traction.

The Pittsburgh Steelers will host the Arizona Cardinals in Week 6, who lead the NFL in scoring through five weeks.

The Arizona offense averages 38 points per contest and will be a very difficult matchup for the Pittsburgh defense this week. The Cardinals dropped 42 points on Detroit last week and racked up 187 rushing yards along the way in a blowout. Pittsburgh's scoring defense has been decent in 2015, but this is a matchup to avoid for fantasy purposes this week.

The Pittsburgh Steelers will look to improve against the run on Monday night when they face the San Diego Chargers.

The San Diego offense is just 20th in rushing yards per game, but the Steelers are coming off a Week 4 game where they gave up 191 rushing yards to the Baltimore backfield. "To be a great defense, we have to be able to take away the run. Obviously, Baltimore was struggling with the run going into that game, and we put them right back on track," linebacker Sean Spence said. The Steelers D/ST is a middling option on the road against a solid Chargers offense this week.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette listed the matchup between Baltimore wide receiver Steve Smith Sr. and Pittsburgh safety Mike Mitchell as a key to Thursday's game.

The Baltimore Ravens are 0-3, but Steve Smith Sr. has done his part early in 2015 with 336 receiving yards in the last two weeks. Pittsburgh FS Mike Mitchell is aware of the challenge of covering Smith, telling the Post-Gazette, "He’s had a great career and he continues to play with that ferocity and swagger that only Steve Smith has. It’s exciting to see." Although the Steelers D/ST is coming off a solid game at St. Louis, they won't be a recommended fantasy option in Week 4 when they host Baltimore and quarterback Joe Flacco, who has thrown for 746 yards in his last two outings.

The Pittsburgh defense will be without productive LB Ryan Shazier in Week 3, as he deals with a shoulder injury.

Shazier was outstanding in Pittsburgh's Week 2 win over San Francisco, racking up 15 tackles, one sack, a forced fumble, and a recovered fumble. Some combination of Vince Williams or Sean Spence will help fill the void left by Shazier, but the Steelers will be missing a key defensive piece as they travel to St. Louis this week. The Pittsburgh defense will not be a startable fantasy option in Week 3 after allowing 385 yards of offense per game through two weeks.

The Pittsburgh Steelers will attempt to slow down the emerging running game of the San Francisco 49ers in Week 2.

Carlos Hyde and the 49ers rumbled for 230 rushing yards in Week 1, the highest mark of the NFL's opening weekend. The Steelers D/ST allowed 69 yards on 15 carries to Dion Lewis and the Patriots in Week 1, but will face a much stiffer test this week as Hyde obliterated the Minnesota defense in his 2015 debut. The Pittsburgh D/ST is not a recommended start in fantasy leagues this week.
Fri, Sep 18, 2015 02:09:00 AM

The Pittsburgh Steelers defense failed to record a turnover and sacked Patriots quarterback Tom Brady just twice in Week 1.

Brady and the Patriots rolled up 361 total yards on the night, as the Pittsburgh defense did little to stop Rob Gronkowski and the New England air attack. While this tough Week 1 matchup didn't make the Steelers D/ST a startable unit, Week 2 will be a different story when Pittsburgh hosts the San Francisco 49ers.
