MLive.com believes Lions OTs Johnny Culbreath, Corey Hilliard and Jason Fox could be competing for just one roster spot.

If that's the case, Hilliard has a huge edge after appearing in all 32 games the past two seasons and making five starts. A seventh-round pick last season, Culbreath missed his entire rookie year with a blood pressure issue before getting arrested for marijuana possession in January. A fourth-round pick in 2010, Fox has appeared in just four career games due to injury. He missed June's minicamp with knee soreness. Culbreath still has practice squad eligibility.

Lions OT Johnny Culbreath was arrested in Orangeburg County, South Carolina on Monday for possession of marijuana.

Culbreath was ratted out by the clerk at the hotel in which he was staying. Police arrived to find a strong marijuana odor and two blunts placed in the drawer of a table in the hallway. Detroit's seventh-round pick last year, Culbreath spent the season on injured reserve with an undisclosed illness.

Lions placed OT Johnny Culbreath (illness) on injured reserve, ending his season.

The seventh-round pick fell ill at practice on Monday, but the Lions haven't revealed the specifics of what's wrong with him. Culbreath, who measures 6-foot-6, 322 pounds, is capable of running a 4.92 forty, and should be given a legitimate chance to make the team next summer.

The Lions have worked seventh-round pick Johnny Culbreath strictly at offensive tackle in training camp.

A freak athlete for his size at 6'6/322 with a 4.92 forty, Culbreath is being given a look as Jeff Backus' possible eventual replacement. While that's a major long shot, Culbreath has "flashed everything he needs to do to be in the NFL," said coach Jim Schwartz. He'll likely spend 2011 on the practice squad.

Lions agreed to terms with No. 209 overall pick T/G Johnny Culbreath on a four-year contract.

The 2009 Lineman of the Year in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference gained notices with a 4.92 forty at South Carolina's pro day. Though he arrives in Detroit as an interesting developmental prospect, Culbreath is likely to start out on the practice squad.

Lions selected South Carolina State T/G Johnny Culbreath with the No. 209 overall pick in the 2011 NFL draft.

Culbreath was a relatively unheard of prospect, but he catapulted himself onto the NFL radar with a 4.92 forty at 6-foot-5, 322 pounds at the South Carolina Pro Day. Also a decent small-school prospect when 40-yard dash times aren't involved, Culbreath was the 2009 Lineman of the Year in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. He's an enormous, but certainly worthwhile developmental project.
