49ers coach Chip Kelly said Bruce Miller has played "a little bit of wide receiver" at OTAs.
Miller began his career at fullback but has spent the offseason making the transition to tight end. Apparently he's getting some work at receiver as well. Miller dropped weight to improve his mobility and has studied film of Brent Celek, Zach Ertz and Jason Witten. "He can just do a little bit of everything pretty good," said OC Curtis Modkins. "So we’re excited about him." Jun 3 - 1:23 PM

49ers FB Bruce Miller has been practicing exclusively at tight end this offseason.

The Niners have gone as far as to bar Miller from running back meetings. We knew Miller had been "mixing in" at tight end, but it sounds like coach Chip Kelly wants to give a full-time switch a chance. Built like an H-back, Miller has always had soft hands, and the 49ers have one of the league's weakest tight end corps.

49ers FB Bruce Miller has been "mixing in" at tight end this offseason.

Miller is certainly built like an H-back at 6-foot-2, 248 pounds. Miller is coming off a quiet season, catching only 10 passes, the fewest of his five-year career. The 49ers' tight end depth chart is barren, but it's doubtful coach Chip Kelly decides Miller is the solution to his problems.

49ers FB Bruce Miller returned to OTAs on Wednesday.

Miller had been sitting out offseason work, but is back practicing now that his legal situation is resolved. The 49ers' decision to let Miller practice confirms he'll remain on the roster. Miller could still face league discipline for his March arrest on spousal abuse charges, although the fact that it's been lowered to misdemeanor vandalism is working in Miller's favor.

49ers FB Bruce Miller has pled no contest to misdemeanor disturbing the peace, and been sentenced to court-ordered counseling.

Miller will attend a 16-week domestic-violence counseling course. It's unclear if he's still facing league discipline after his original charges of spousal abuse were lowered. Miller had been sitting out voluntary OTAs as he awaited a resolution.

49ers FB Bruce Miller's spousal abuse charges have been lowered to misdemeanor vandalism.

Miller was accused of pushing his girlfriend out of a parked car and smashing her phone, but police found no evidence that his girlfriend was pushed. She denied there was any physical contact. It's unclear if Miller will face league discipline under the reduced charges. Miller has been sitting out OTAs as he awaits his fate. CSN Bay Area reports that will remain the case until he is sentenced.

49ers FB Bruce Miller is not attending offseason workouts.

Miller's absence is due to his March arrest for suspicion of spousal abuse. 49ers GM Trent Baalke said he'll revisit Miller's status once the situation is resolved.

Updating a previous item, 49ers FB Bruce Miller's arrest on March 5 was for allegedly shoving his fiancee to the ground during an argument.

Miller was arrested for spousal battery two hours after the incident occurred, but the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office has yet to file charges. The NFL is reportedly reviewing the case. Miller was one of the top fullbacks in the league last year and a big part of San Francisco's rushing attack.

49ers FB Bruce Miller was arrested last Thursday in Santa Clara, Cal. for spousal battery.

Things keep getting worse in San Francisco. Miller was Pro Football Focus' No. 2 fullback last season and is a big part of the offense as the lead blocker. The 49ers stood by DE Ray McDonald in his domestic-violence case through most of 2014.

Bruce Miller rushed twice for four yards in the 49ers' Week 15 loss to the Seahawks, adding four catches for 56 yards.

Miller was actually the 49ers' leading receiver on a day where Colin Kaepernick predictably struggled to generate anything downfield. Miller was also pressed into heavier snaps as a runner, as the 49ers lost both Frank Gore (concussion) and Carlos Hyde (ankle) to injury. Miller will form a Week 16 committee with Alfonso Smith if neither Gore nor Hyde can go. Miller's receiving prowess would give him the edge over Smith as a potential RB3 against the Chargers.

49ers FB Bruce Miller (shoulder) is 100 percent.

Miller suffered a fractured left scapula last Week 15. An able pass catcher, Miller also returns as one of the league's better lead blockers. The 26-year-old fullback will be an eventual asset for second-round rookie Carlos Hyde.

49ers signed FB Bruce Miller to a three-year contract extension through 2017.

According to ESPN's Bill Williamson, the deal makes Miller one of the highest-paid fullbacks in the league. Miller was one of the league's best lead blockers in 2013, and also caught a career-high 25 passes. He's one of coach Jim Harbaugh's favorite players.

ESPN reports the 49ers have had "preliminary" extension talks with FB Bruce Miller.

One of the league's better lead blockers, Miller is going into the final year of his rookie contract. Also an able pass catcher, Miller is a favorite of coach Jim Harbaugh. Considering the vanishingly-little leverage held by any fullback, the sides should be able to come to an agreement.

49ers placed FB Bruce Miller on injured reserve with a fractured left scapula, ending his season.

Miller suffered the injury in Sunday's win over the Bucs. He'll now miss the rest of the regular season and won't be available for the playoffs. Miller had graded out as a top-four fullback by Pro Football Focus, so it's a significant loss to the 49ers' running game. DL/FB Will Tukuafu has been re-signed to replace him on the active roster.

49ers FB Bruce Miller (shoulder blade) is expected to miss the remainder of the season and the playoffs.

Miller took a big hit from Bucs S Keith Tandy in the fourth quarter of Sunday's win after making a ten-yard catch. He isn't just some guy for the 49ers. Miller is one of the best lead blockers in the biz and is a contributor as a pass catcher. The 49ers may look at ex-Stanford FB Owen Marecic as a replacement.
