Dolphins released TE Ryan Taylor.

Taylor was a special teams mainstay for the Packers from 2011-13, but bounced around between three teams last season. Getting waived at this stage of the offseason is never a good sign for a veteran. Taylor will try to latch on elsewhere as a core special teamer.

Packers waived TE Ryan Taylor.

The 2011 seventh-rounder wasn't playing on offense this season despite the Packers' lack of depth at tight end. Going on 27, Taylor has eight catches across 50 career games. He's primarily a special teamer.

Packers TE Ryan Taylor underwent a knee scope Wednesday and will miss 2-4 weeks.

Coach Mike McCarthy says Taylor will miss no more than a couple of weeks and should be on the front end of the recovery timetable. Taylor has played 57 snaps on offense this season but is mainly used on special teams.

Seventh-round TE/FB Ryan Taylor is an "early favorite" to make the 53-man roster, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.

Taylor's energy and willingness to throw his body around are making an impression at Packers camp. He's being used on the kick, punt and kick-return teams while also settling in as the No. 4 or 5 tight end. Taylor has the look of a glue guy.

Packers selected North Carolina TE/FB/LB Ryan Taylor with the No. 218 overall pick in the 2011 NFL draft.

Taylor played fullback and H-back in UNC's pro-style offense, and in 2010 had 36 receptions with a 9.2 per-catch average. He also made nine tackles on defense as a linebacker. Ultimately, Taylor will settle in as a gung-ho special teamer in the pros. The 6-foot-3, 250-pound prospect was North Carolina's special teams captain in 2008 and 2010, and would've been in 2009 had he not missed all of that season with a knee injury.
