Chargers signed DB Jimmy Wilson to a two-year, $4.85 million contract.
Wilson has the ability to cover the slot and play safety, and will replace Marcus Gilchrist in DC John Pagano's scheme. He had a career-high 59 tackles and an interception last season. Wilson will be the Chargers' nickel back behind Brandon Flowers and Jason Verrett. He could also push for snaps in San Diego's base defense, competing with SS Jahleel Addae. Mar 13 - 7:25 PM

Free agent DB Jimmy Wilson will visit the Chargers on Friday.

As the top of the free agent cornerback market dries up, Wilson is in demand. He is a big, physical, versatile DB with the ability to cover the slot and play safety, though neither at an elite level. He'd replace Marcus Gilchrist.

The Dolphins are expected to start Jimmy Wilson at strong safety during Reshad Jones' four-game suspension.

It shouldn't be a huge drop-off, as Wilson is a capable performer who was already a staple in Miami's sub-package defenses. Wilson played slot corner, however, so the Fins now figure to lean more heavily on sophomore CB Jamar Taylor. Look for Taylor and Brent Grimes to play outside cornerback in nickel sets, with Cortland Finnegan in the slot and Wilson and Louis Delmas at safety.

Jimmy Wilson has been a regular in the Dolphins' nickel package at camp.

Wilson is covering the slot, with Cortland Finnegan and Jamar Taylor competing opposite LCB Brent Grimes. It's the same role Wilson played last year. He is also Miami's third safety behind Reshad Jones and Louis Delmas.

The Dolphins will keep Jimmy Wilson at safety this season.

He'll likely be Miami's third safety behind SS Reshad Jones and new FS Louis Delmas. Wilson can also cover the slot in nickel packages, though that is a theoretical strength of Cortland Finnegan, as well. Wilson turns 28 in July and is entering a contract year. He may have more value to another team in 2015.

Dolphins DB Jimmy Wilson is focusing solely on safety this season.

Wilson entered the league as a cornerback out of Montana in 2011, and he rotated snaps between both defensive back spots last season. With the additions of Brent Grimes, Will Davis, Dimitri Patterson, and Jamar Taylor over the last eight months, Wilson can focus on one position. He'll fill a reserve role behind starters Reshad Jones and Chris Clemons, while playing special teams.

Dolphins CB Jimmy Wilson has been moved to safety.

A hard-hitting corner out of Montana, Wilson saw reps at safety last training camp. New defensive boss Kevin Coyle has the 2011 seventh-rounder working with the second team, behind Reshad Jones and Chris Clemons.

According to head coach Tony Sparano, DB Jimmy Wilson will play at cornerback on defense.

The Dolphins tried to give the seventh-round college cornerback reps at safety, but it looks like the experiment was a failure. Look for Wilson to be an impact player on special teams for his rookie season.

According to the Palm Beach Post, seventh-round DB Jimmy Wilson has already "all but won" a roster spot this summer.

Known as a hard-hitter at the University of Montana, Wilson could make an impact on special teams this season if he indeed makes the team. If he eventually earns playing time on defense, the Dolphins have projected him as a safety after he played cornerback in college.

Dolphins signed seventh-round DB Jimmy Wilson to a four-year contract.

Wilson played corner for most of his career at Montana but is expected to focus on safety in Miami. At 5'11/193, that's a tall task. The practice squad looks like a best-case scenario.

The Dolphins plan to try seventh-round pick Jimmy Wilson at safety in his rookie season.

Wilson played corner early in his Montana career before moving to safety as a senior. He's small for the position at 5-foot-11, 193, but the Dolphins believe Wilson is a physical enough player to hold up "inside." Most likely, Wilson is headed for the practice squad after the lockout stalled his development.

Dolphins selected Montana CB Jimmy Wilson with the No. 235 overall pick in the 2011 NFL draft.

Wilson is likely the only prospect in the draft to spend 25 months behind bars before being acquitted of murder charges. He was involved in a tragic incident in 2007 that led to the accidental death of his aunt's abusive boyfriend. Three years passed between his junior and senior seasons, where he switched to safety from cornerback. Known as a hard-hitter, his future is likely on special teams.
