Panthers OT Lee Ziemba has been suspended four games for violating the league's policy on performance-enhancing substances.
Ziemba, a 2011 seventh-round pick out of Auburn, was placed on injured reserve at the beginning of the season with a torn ACL. Ziemba said he never knowingly ingested an illegal substance, but he also doesn't plan to appeal. He will serve his suspension while rehabbing his knee. Sat, Oct 27, 2012 03:19:00 PM

Ziemba recently underwent exploratory surgery searching for a torn ACL, and it appears that's what was discovered. A seventh-round pick out of Auburn in 2011, Ziemba was not pushing for a starting job in Panthers training camp.

Panthers OT Lee Ziemba will undergo exploratory surgery after injuring his knee in practice last Thursday.

The Panthers fear Ziemba has torn his ACL. Ziemba had a stellar career at Auburn, but fell to the seventh round in last year's draft due in part to concerns over his knees. He appeared in six games as a rookie, making zero starts.

Some front office types would not be surprised if seventh-round OT Lee Ziemba has a better NFL career than Cam Newton, according to the National Football Post's Dan Pompei.

Pompei believes Ziemba was rated as a second- or third-round talent, only to be red-flagged for a torn meniscus from two years ago. Though he does have athletic limitations, Ziemba had an excellent college career a fine Senior Bowl performance. "If he stays healthy, he's an NFL starter, and probably a good one," said one GM.

The injury that caused OT Lee Ziemba to fall to the seventh round was reportedly a torn meniscus from two years ago.

The medical red flag wasn't a good combination with Ziemba's below-average athleticism. As expected, the Panthers are planning to groom him as a right tackle after he started at left tackle his final three seasons at Auburn.

Panthers No. 244 overall pick Lee Ziemba reportedly slipped so far in the draft because of medical concerns.

Details of the "injury" are unknown. Ziemba was a projected late-round pick anyway, as he lacks the athleticism of a starting-caliber offensive tackle and would be a pretty awkward-looking guard at 6-foot-6, 317. The Panthers will probably give Ziemba a chance to be Jeff Otah's backup at right tackle.

Panthers selected Auburn OT Lee Ziemba with the No. 244 overall pick in the 2011 NFL draft.

A four-year starter for last year's national champions, Ziemba took home all-SEC honors all four seasons he was at Auburn. Extremely durable, he has been able to maximize his ability thanks to a high football IQ and good motor. He's a low-upside pick, but could will his way onto the Panthers roster this summer.
