49ers GM Trent Baalke said there is still no timetable for NT Ian Williams (ankle surgeries).

"Still undetermined," Baalke said when asked about a timeline. "But he’s making very good progress." Williams signed a five-year contract in early March, but the deal was reduced to a one-year agreement after he failed his physical. He reportedly underwent multiple surgeries on his left ankle, and he is expected to begin training camp on the reserve/NFI list. It appears unlikely Williams will be ready by Week 1.

49ers NT Ian Williams (ankle surgeries) is expected to begin training camp on the reserve/NFI list.

Williams underwent multiple operations after suffering an offseason ankle injury. The fact that he's already being promoted as an NFI candidate to begin camp means there's a chance he'll begin the year on the reserve/NFI list, which would cost him six games. It would be a big loss for San Francisco's thin defensive line, which is going to be on the field much more under coach Chip Kelly.

49ers NT Ian Williams' five-year, $27.5 million contract has been reduced to a one-year pact after he failed his physical.

The deal is worth "up to" $6 million. Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, Williams has "undergone more than one (left) ankle surgery," and is in doubt for Week 1. It's a newly-reported issue for Williams, who didn't miss a game last season. He missed six weeks in 2014 with a broken leg. The injury creates even more question marks for a 49ers defense that's absolutely disintegrated since Jim Harbaugh was fired. Going on 27, Williams has emerged as one of the league's better run pluggers.
Mar 21 - 2:25 PM

49ers re-signed NT Ian Williams to a five-year contract.

An overachiever at nose tackle in San Francisco's 3-4, Williams is a former UDFA out of Notre Dame. He enjoyed a breakout 2015 campaign, earning PFF's No. 6 overall run-defense grade among defensive tackles while logging 58 percent of the 49ers' defensive snaps. Retaining Williams is a rare wise move by GM Trent Baalke, on whose watch the 49ers' roster has otherwise gone in the gutter.
Mar 9 - 6:39 AM

49ers placed NT Ian Williams on injured reserve with a broken leg, ending his season.

Williams had started all nine games this season, holding his own as a run plugger. Glenn Dorsey, who was activated off I.R./return in a corresponding roster move, will immediately slide in as the 49ers' starting nose tackle. Due an affordable $1 million in 2015, Williams should be back with the Niners.

49ers NT Ian Williams sustained a small fracture in his lower leg during Sunday's Week 10 win at New Orleans.

Williams has a bad recent history of ankle issues. It's unclear if this is related, but it looks like the Niners will be without their rotational run-plugger for an extended period.

49ers activated NT Ian Williams (ankle) from the active/PUP list.

Williams has undergone four ankle operations since last Week 2, the most recent of which was in February. Williams' health has taken on increased importance after NT Glenn Dorsey suffered a torn left biceps last week, but it's hard to believe Williams will be ready to start come Week 1. Quinton Dial, Demarcus Dobbs and Tony Jerod-Eddie are the 49ers' other options.

49ers NT Ian Williams (ankle) expects to come off the active/PUP list at some point in training camp.

Williams has undergone four ankle surgeries since last Week 2. He was placed on active/PUP Friday, and can be activated at any time. Williams can't afford any setbacks if he wants to avoid missing extended time. He remains a candidate for reserve/PUP, which would cost him the first six games.

49ers placed NT Ian Williams (ankle) on the active/PUP list.

He's now a legitimate candidate to open 2014 on reserve/PUP. Williams is five months removed from his latest ankle surgery. He was always a long shot to be ready for training camp and isn't a lock to get cleared for Week 1. When healthy, Williams will compete for a rotational role behind Glenn Dorsey.

49ers NT Ian Williams (broken leg) underwent another operation in February, and "hopes" to be ready for training camp.

According to beat writer Matt Maiocco, Williams has now undergone four operations since going down last Week 2. The former undrafted free agent will fight for a role as a rotational run stuffer if he's healthy for camp.

49ers NT Ian Williams (broken left ankle) expects to be 100 percent for the start of 2014 training camp.

Williams fractured the ankle in Week 2 after making his first career NFL start. Glenn Dorsey took over at nose tackle from there and performed admirably, especially in run defense. 24 years old and signed cheaply through 2015, Williams is likely to return as a rotational run stuffer, playing on early downs.

49ers placed NT Ian Williams on injured reserve with a broken ankle, ending his season.

Making his first career start, Williams was lost for the year in Sunday's blowout loss to the Seahawks. He'll be replaced for former Chiefs first-round pick Glenn Dorsey, who played well in Seattle. It's not a major loss for the 49ers.

49ers NT Ian Williams (broken ankle) is undergoing surgery Monday, and is out for the season.

Coach Jim Harbaugh made the announcement in Monday's presser. Making his first career start, Williams was injured on a cut block in Sunday's loss. He'll be replaced by former Chiefs bust Glenn Dorsey. At least according to Pro Football Focus' ratings, Dorsey played well in Williams' absence.

49ers NT Ian Williams suffered a broken ankle in Sunday night's Week 2 game against the Seahawks.

It's a potentially season-ending injury and Williams should be considered out indefinitely. The 49ers don't have the option to place Williams on the IR/designated to return after using it on sixth-round LB Nick Moody (hand) last week. Glenn Dorsey will start at nose tackle in his absence.
