49ers activated NT Ian Williams (ankle) from the active/PUP list.
Williams has undergone four ankle operations since last Week 2, the most recent of which was in February. Williams' health has taken on increased importance after NT Glenn Dorsey suffered a torn left biceps last week, but it's hard to believe Williams will be ready to start come Week 1. Quinton Dial, Demarcus Dobbs and Tony Jerod-Eddie are the 49ers' other options. Aug 12 - 4:43 PM

49ers NT Ian Williams (ankle) expects to come off the active/PUP list at some point in training camp.

Williams has undergone four ankle surgeries since last Week 2. He was placed on active/PUP Friday, and can be activated at any time. Williams can't afford any setbacks if he wants to avoid missing extended time. He remains a candidate for reserve/PUP, which would cost him the first six games.
Jul 19 - 3:25 PM

49ers placed NT Ian Williams (ankle) on the active/PUP list.

He's now a legitimate candidate to open 2014 on reserve/PUP. Williams is five months removed from his latest ankle surgery. He was always a long shot to be ready for training camp and isn't a lock to get cleared for Week 1. When healthy, Williams will compete for a rotational role behind Glenn Dorsey.

49ers NT Ian Williams (broken leg) underwent another operation in February, and "hopes" to be ready for training camp.

According to beat writer Matt Maiocco, Williams has now undergone four operations since going down last Week 2. The former undrafted free agent will fight for a role as a rotational run stuffer if he's healthy for camp.
Jun 3 - 7:10 PM

49ers NT Ian Williams (broken left ankle) expects to be 100 percent for the start of 2014 training camp.

Williams fractured the ankle in Week 2 after making his first career NFL start. Glenn Dorsey took over at nose tackle from there and performed admirably, especially in run defense. 24 years old and signed cheaply through 2015, Williams is likely to return as a rotational run stuffer, playing on early downs.
Jan 20 - 2:54 PM

49ers placed NT Ian Williams on injured reserve with a broken ankle, ending his season.

Making his first career start, Williams was lost for the year in Sunday's blowout loss to the Seahawks. He'll be replaced for former Chiefs first-round pick Glenn Dorsey, who played well in Seattle. It's not a major loss for the 49ers.

49ers NT Ian Williams (broken ankle) is undergoing surgery Monday, and is out for the season.

Coach Jim Harbaugh made the announcement in Monday's presser. Making his first career start, Williams was injured on a cut block in Sunday's loss. He'll be replaced by former Chiefs bust Glenn Dorsey. At least according to Pro Football Focus' ratings, Dorsey played well in Williams' absence.

49ers NT Ian Williams suffered a broken ankle in Sunday night's Week 2 game against the Seahawks.

It's a potentially season-ending injury and Williams should be considered out indefinitely. The 49ers don't have the option to place Williams on the IR/designated to return after using it on sixth-round LB Nick Moody (hand) last week. Glenn Dorsey will start at nose tackle in his absence.

49ers NT Ian Williams exited Sunday night's game with a left leg injury.

Williams had to be carted off in the first quarter and is out for the rest of the game. The 49ers will go with Glenn Dorsey at nose tackle.

49ers signed NT Ian Williams to a two-year, $3.2 million extension through 2015.

The deal includes a $1 million signing bonus. A former undrafted free agent out of Notre Dame, Williams has appeared in just four career games but may be in the mix to replace free agent Isaac Sopoaga as San Francisco's starting nose tackle. Regardless of whether he starts, Williams' role will grow in 2013.

49ers agreed to terms with former Notre Dame NT Ian Williams.

He was SI.com draft analyst Tony Pauline's No. 1-rated undrafted prospect. Williams played nose tackle in Notre Dame's 3-4 defense, so he'll at least be familiar with the formatting of San Francisco's defensive system. It's also a great fit for the 6-foot-1, 319-pound prospect because the 49ers only have four defensive linemen under contract and are losing Aubrayo Franklin.
