The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette does not believe Steelers RE Brett Keisel is a candidate for release.

Keisel has missed 14 games the past four years and is due $2.8 million entering his age-34 campaign, but he remains a part of Pittsburgh's plans. Among Steelers veterans the Post-Gazette believes could be shown the door are NT Casey Hampton, DE Aaron Smith, CB Bryant McFadden, ILB James Farrior and ILB Larry Foote.

Steelers RE Brett Keisel suffered a "severe" groin injury in Sunday's Wild Card loss, and is a candidate for offseason surgery.

Keisel missed two games earlier in the year with a knee injury, but was his usual productive self when on the field, tallying three sacks, two forced fumbles and 48 tackles in 14 games. Soon to be 34, Keisel has missed 14 of a possible 64 games the past four seasons.

Steelers RE Brett Keisel says he will return from his sprained PCL in Week 5 against Tennessee.

Keisel missed the last two games, and Ziggy Hood struggled mightily as a run defender in his absence. Hood will now kick over to left end, replacing Aaron Smith (foot). Chris Johnson does not have a prohibitive Week 5 matchup.

Steelers RE Brett Keisel has been diagnosed with a sprained PCL in his knee.

Keisel is questionable for Sunday's game against the Colts. The Steelers will likely err on the side of caution as they can beat Indy at far less than full strength. Look for Ziggy Hood to get the start.

Steelers RE Brett Keisel (knee) has been diagnosed with a "mild ligament sprain."

Keisel may miss practice time, but will likely be able to give it a go next Sunday night against the Colts. If he can't, Ziggy Hood will take his place at right end. Keisel has missed 12 games with injury since the beginning of the 2008 season.

Steelers RE Brett Keisel left Sunday's game against the Seahawks with a left knee injury.

Talented backup Ziggy Hood is picking snaps with Keisel out. The Seahawks have crossed mid-field just once in the entire game, so Keisel won't be missed in a 24-0 blowout. Keisel did get a precautionary MRI, but said following the game that the injury isn't serious. The early diagnosis is a sprained PCL.

Steelers RE Brett Keisel has been added to the AFC's Pro Bowl roster, replacing Dwight Freeney (undisclosed).

Freeney is believed to be dealing with a minor injury. Keisel, 32, becomes the fourth Steeler on the AFC roster. It's also his first trip to Honolulu. Keisel finished the regular season with 33 tackles, three sacks, and two forced fumbles. He missed five games due to calf and hamstring injuries.

Steelers declared DE Brett Keisel, RB Jonathan Dwyer, CB Crezdon Butler, OT Chris Scott, WR Antonio Brown, TE Matt Spaeth, DE Aaron Smith, and QB Charlie Batch inactive for Week 12 at Buffalo.

Keisel is finally over his nagging hamstring injury, but he came down with a strained calf muscle late in the week. The Steelers' run defense has remained dominant without him over the past month.

Steelers DE Brett Keisel (calf) has been downgraded to questionable for Week 12.

It's different from the hamstring injury that kept him sidelined for the past four games. While all indications are that Keisel's hammy is fully healed, the calf could hold him out for Week 12. Ziggy Hood and Nick Eason are expected to start at defensive end with Aaron Smith also sidelined.

Coach Mike Tomlin expects DE Brett Keisel (hamstring) to return for Sunday's game at Buffalo.

Keisel will practice Wednesday, and he finally appears to be over a hamstring injury that has kept him out of four games. Fred Jackson owners take note: the Steelers defense held Darren McFadden to 14 yards even without Keisel last week.
