Steelers released DE Brett Keisel.
The move sweeps $1.5 million off the books. Going on 37, Keisel is recovering from a torn triceps. "The Beard" has spent his entire 13-year career with the Steelers, and is considering retirement. He appeared in 12 games last season, playing 451 snaps. If Keisel wants to return to the Steelers, it would likely have to be for the veteran minimum. Mon, Mar 9, 2015 04:04:00 PM

When asked about retirement, Steelers DE Brett Keisel said he's going to rehab his triceps surgery and "see (how) things turn out."

Keisel is under contract for $1.5M in 2015. At that price, the Steelers would almost certainly like to have the 36-year-old back as a rotational end and team leader. Keisel has spent all 13 years of his NFL career in Pittsburgh.

Steelers placed DE Brett Keisel on injured reserve with a torn triceps, ending his season.

DL Clifton Geathers has been signed in a corresponding roster move. A 13-year veteran, Keisel played 451 snaps through the Steelers' first 12 games, notching 17 tackles and a sack. Now 36, Keisel will quite likely mull retirement after going unsigned until late August. His triceps needed to be surgically repaired.

The Steelers believe DE Brett Keisel tore his tricep in Sunday's Week 13 loss to the Saints.

If a Monday MRI confirms the diagnosis, Keisel's season will be over. The 13-year veteran was a rotational end for the Steelers this season, rushing the passer with some effectiveness but getting beat in the run game. It's possible he'll contemplate retirement. Stephon Tuitt and Cam Thomas will be asked to step up for this leaky Pittsburgh defense.

Steelers re-signed DE Brett Keisel.

The move was spurred by the Cardinals' interest in the 13-year veteran. The Steelers had remained open to re-signing Keisel all offseason, but must have been waiting for his price to come down. The Cardinals finally gave Keisel some leverage. Keisel started 12 games last season, and will push LE Cam Thomas. Keisel wasn't terribly effective in 574 snaps last season, and is best left to a rotational role.

Updating an earlier item, free agent DE Brett Keisel declined the Cardinals' offer to visit.

According to the Arizona Republic, the lifetime Steeler "didn't want to leave his family." That makes it pretty clear Keisel is only willing to play for one team during what would be his age-36 season. Thus far, that team hasn't been interested in a new deal.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports the Cardinals are "very unlikely" to sign free agent DE Brett Keisel.

Arizona apparently didn't like what it found during the 35-year-old Keisel's physical. Keisel has drawn very little interest since hitting the open market in March. If he's not at the end of the line, he's near it.

Free agent DE Brett Keisel will take a physical for the Cardinals on Tuesday.

The fit makes sense after the Cardinals lost LE Darnell Dockett to a torn ACL on Monday. Keisel, 36 in September, knows coach Bruce Arians from their time together in Pittsburgh. He's stayed in shape and wants to play another season. Keisel registered 29 tackles and four sacks for the Steelers last year.

The Steelers haven't ruled out re-signing free agents Brett Keisel and James Harrison.

Specifically, GM Kevin Colbert said the team hasn't ruled out signing "anybody." Keisel, who turns 36 in September, has made no-known visits since hitting the open market in March. He'd be an option behind LE Cam Thomas in Pittsburgh.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports the Steelers are interested in re-signing free agent DE Brett Keisel to a one-year, minimum-salary deal.

Beat writer Ed Bouchette believes "it makes just too much sense for [Keisel] not to rejoin the Steelers." The soon-to-be 36-year-old wouldn't be asked to play a full complement of snaps should be re-signed, but Keisel could help mentor rookie DE Stephon Tuitt and the other young defensive linemen on the Steelers.

ESPN Steelers reporter Scott Brown believes the team could be waiting until after June 1 to re-sign free agent Brett Keisel.

Keisel has received no free-agent interest to this point, but remains committed to playing this season. He could be used in a rotation opposite Cameron Heyward, with rookie Stephon Tuitt, Cam Thomas, and Nick Williams also in the mix for snaps. The Steelers currently have just $357,896 in cap space, but will be getting $2.41 million back in June from releasing LaMarr Woodley.

The Steelers "haven't shown any inclination" to re-sign free agent Brett Keisel.

Keisel is reportedly committed to playing this season, but isn't more than a situational player at this stage of his career. It's possible the Steelers could wait until after June 1 to sign Keisel when they get salary-cap relief from releasing LaMarr Woodley.

ESPN's Scott Brown believes the Steelers should re-sign free agent Brett Keisel.

The Steelers need depth on their defensive line and could use Keisel in a rotation opposite Cameron Heyward. Keisel showed obvious signs of decline last year and has yet to generate free-agent interest, but has no intention of retiring. With Pittsburgh currently just $432,896 under the 2014 cap, Keisel would have to accept a team-friendly deal to return.

Free agent DE Brett Keisel has no intention of retiring.

Keisel is 35 years old, but is reportedly dedicated to playing and in great shape. He's spent his entire 11-year career with the Steelers, who have made no public statements about wanting him back. CBS' Jason La Canfora suggests the Jets as a possible fit.

Impending free agent DE Brett Keisel sounds as if he plans to continue his playing career.

Keisel, 35, admitted last summer that the 2013 season may be his final one. It doesn't appear that's the case. Keisel was in New York earlier this week as part of the Super Bowl week festivities and said his preference is to re-sign with the Steelers, but also mentioned he'd be interested in playing for the Lions. Keisel registered 29 tackles and four sacks across 12 games this past season.
