ESPN's Scott Brown believes the Steelers should re-sign free agent Brett Keisel.
The Steelers need depth on their defensive line and could use Keisel in a rotation opposite Cameron Heyward. Keisel showed obvious signs of decline last year and has yet to generate free-agent interest, but has no intention of retiring. With Pittsburgh currently just $432,896 under the 2014 cap, Keisel would have to accept a team-friendly deal to return. Apr 5 - 7:49 PM

Keisel is 35 years old, but is reportedly dedicated to playing and in great shape. He's spent his entire 11-year career with the Steelers, who have made no public statements about wanting him back. CBS' Jason La Canfora suggests the Jets as a possible fit.

Impending free agent DE Brett Keisel sounds as if he plans to continue his playing career.

Keisel, 35, admitted last summer that the 2013 season may be his final one. It doesn't appear that's the case. Keisel was in New York earlier this week as part of the Super Bowl week festivities and said his preference is to re-sign with the Steelers, but also mentioned he'd be interested in playing for the Lions. Keisel registered 29 tackles and four sacks across 12 games this past season.

The Steelers are not expected to retain longtime RE Brett Keisel or FS Ryan Clark.

Both are free agents. The Steelers need a facelift on a defense that has gotten too old, and 35-year-old Keisel is no longer the answer at right end. After managing four sacks in a dozen 2013 appearances, Keisel may not generate interest as a starter in free agency. Clark is 34 and also clearly in decline.

Steelers RE Brett Keisel (foot) has been ruled out for Week 15.

The Steelers' soft run defense will be minus a core contributor for Sunday's night's bout with Cincinnati. Keisel will miss his fourth game of 2013.

Steelers RE Brett Keisel (foot) will not play in Week 14.

Keisel sustained a setback with his plantar fasciitis issue during the Thanksgiving loss to the Ravens. At age 35 and in the final year of his contract, this is a career-threatening injury.

Steelers RE Brett Keisel (plantar fasciitis) is practicing in full for Week 13, and expected to return for Thursday's game against the Ravens.

Keisel had sat out the past two weeks after suiting up for each of the Steelers' first nine games. He'll be returning to 25 tackles and two sacks. It's a mild boost for Pittsburgh's front seven.

Steelers RE Brett Keisel's foot injury is a case of plantar fasciitis, but coach Mike Tomlin believes he has a "legitimate opportunity to play" in Week 12.

Per Tomlin, the same is true of OLB LaMarr Woodley (calf) and LG Ramon Foster (high-ankle sprain). Keisel had yet to miss a game this season before being inactive for Sunday's win over the Lions. He has 25 tackles and two sacks through nine games, and has graded out as the No. 25 3-4 end in Pro Football Focus' ratings.

Steelers RE Brett Keisel admits 2013 may be his final season.

"It's definitely possible," Keisel said. "It's not a secret that I'm one of the older guys on the team, the oldest guy on the defense." Coming off a 4.5-sack season, Keisel is once again expected to hold off Cam Heyward for Pittsburgh's starting right end gig. His 40 hurries led the team last season. Going on 35, Keisel isn't signed beyond 2013.

Steelers RE Brett Keisel left Saturday's preseason game with a "mild" high ankle sprain.

Any high ankle-sprain is concerning, but the injury appears to be of the minor variety. Keisel will likely be in a race to get healthy for the regular season. Cameron Heyward will get an extended look in his absence.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette does not believe Steelers RE Brett Keisel is a candidate for release.

Keisel has missed 14 games the past four years and is due $2.8 million entering his age-34 campaign, but he remains a part of Pittsburgh's plans. Among Steelers veterans the Post-Gazette believes could be shown the door are NT Casey Hampton, DE Aaron Smith, CB Bryant McFadden, ILB James Farrior and ILB Larry Foote.

Steelers RE Brett Keisel suffered a "severe" groin injury in Sunday's Wild Card loss, and is a candidate for offseason surgery.

Keisel missed two games earlier in the year with a knee injury, but was his usual productive self when on the field, tallying three sacks, two forced fumbles and 48 tackles in 14 games. Soon to be 34, Keisel has missed 14 of a possible 64 games the past four seasons.

Steelers RE Brett Keisel says he will return from his sprained PCL in Week 5 against Tennessee.

Keisel missed the last two games, and Ziggy Hood struggled mightily as a run defender in his absence. Hood will now kick over to left end, replacing Aaron Smith (foot). Chris Johnson does not have a prohibitive Week 5 matchup.

Steelers RE Brett Keisel (knee) has been ruled out for Week 3.

Ziggy Hood will get the start in his place. Keisel should be able to return for Pittsburgh's Week 4 visit to Houston.

Steelers RE Brett Keisel has been diagnosed with a sprained PCL in his knee.

Keisel is questionable for Sunday's game against the Colts. The Steelers will likely err on the side of caution as they can beat Indy at far less than full strength. Look for Ziggy Hood to get the start.
