Vikings OC Norv Turner considers Matt Asiata (concussion) "in doubt" for Week 12.

Per Norval, it's the primary reason the Vikings claimed Ben Tate off waivers on Wednesday. Asiata remained sidelined on Thursday. With Jerick McKinnon still operating as the lead back, Tate will be a touchdown-dependent RB4 if Asiata indeed sits against the Packers.
Nov 20 - 1:33 PM

Matt Asiata (concussion) did not practice Wednesday.

Asiata is in the first stage of the league's concussion protocol and should be considered questionable for Week 12. The Vikings claimed Ben Tate on waivers Wednesday, suggesting Asiata could be held out this week.
Nov 19 - 4:25 PM

Vikings RB Matt Asiata managed two yards on one carry and three catches for 12 yards in the team's Week 11 loss to the Bears.

The Vikings' running game was a non-factor in this one as Chicago controlled the ball and forced Minnesota to play from behind. Jerick McKinnon managed 12 touches compared to Asiata's four. With Adrian Peterson's going-forward availability up in the air, Asiata's fantasy outlook is similarly uncertain.
Nov 16 - 4:25 PM

Matt Asiata rushed 10 times for 26 yards with three touchdowns and caught four passes for 31 yards in Sunday's 29-26 Week 9 win over the Redskins.

Remarkably, Asiata now has two 3-TD games this season and in addition to the one he posted late last year. The first score today was a clear vulture as starter Jerick McKinnon carried the mail all the way down the field. But the second two were more in the flow of the offense, as Asiata is both the third-down and four-minute drill back. He also got the call on a pivotal 2-point conversion late. We wouldn't bother adding Asiata in shallower formats as it's hard to count on goal-line chances, but McKinnon owners need to understand the Vikings' philosophy in the red zone.
Nov 2 - 4:34 PM

Matt Asiata gained one yard on four carries and caught 4-of-5 targets for 26 yards in the Vikings' Week 8 win over the Buccaneers.

With Jerick McKinnon handling feature back duties, Asiata mixed in sparingly on third downs and as a breather back. McKinnon led the way with 17 touches. Asiata is safe to drop in 12- and 14-team fantasy leagues.
Oct 26 - 5:03 PM

Matt Asiata rushed six times for 24 yards in Sunday's Week 7 loss to the Bills.

He added one catch for 13 yards. Asiata played behind Jerick McKinnon, who had 20-plus touches. He continues to be phased out of the offense and will likely be just a third down and change-of-pace role going forward. Asiata isn't a must-hold in fantasy leagues.
Oct 19 - 5:37 PM

Coach Mike Zimmer said he wants to get Matt Asiata more touches this week against the Bills.

Zimmer expanded and added that he wants Jerick McKinnon's touches to come down from Week 6. Against the Lions last Sunday, McKinnon out-touched Asiata 17-3 and out-snapped Asiata 48-15. Zimmer wants that to change because Asiata is "dependable," and added that running backs who can't pass-protect can "get the quarterback killed." We take that as a direct reference to the raw McKinnon. We still like McKinnon as an RB2 based on natural talent, while Asiata is a low-upside RB3 who is wholly dependent on scoring touchdowns.
Oct 15 - 12:32 PM

Matt Asiata played just 15 snaps in the Vikings' Week 6 loss to Detroit.

He handled three touches to Jerick McKinnon's 17 and played 15 downs to McKinnon's 48. A cult hero in some fantasy football circles, Asiata's going-forward outlook is suddenly in the gutter. He's a low-ceiling RB4/5 stash.
Oct 13 - 4:31 PM

Matt Asiata rushed two times for negative-five yards and caught one pass for 18 yards in the Vikings' Week 6 loss to the Lions.

Asiata was out-touched 17-3 by Jerick McKinnon, and did not get his first carry until the second quarter. McKinnon is just more talented, and has clearly moved ahead of Asiata on the Vikings' depth chart. Asiata is no longer a must hold.
Oct 12 - 4:57 PM

Matt Asiata is on the Week 6 injury report with a groin issue, but practicing in full.

The fantasy community's favorite folk hero remains an RB2 for Week 6.
Oct 9 - 5:47 PM

Matt Asiata rushed 15 times for 72 yards in Thursday night's loss to the Packers.

Asiata got the majority of carries over Jerick McKinnon, who finished with 10 touches. He failed to secure all three of his targets and lost a fumble in the second quarter. Asiata is averaging 3.7 yards per carry in four starts and will continue to lose work to McKinnon going forward. He'll be a touchdown-dependent RB2/3 in Week 6 against the Lions.
Oct 2 - 11:53 PM

Coach Mike Zimmer confirmed that Matt Asiata remains his starting running back.

Finally given a chance to just run the football, freak athlete Jerick McKinnon predictably broke out for 135 yards on 18 carries. But his struggles as a pass protector and receiver will keep him in a change-of-pace role for now. "I hope we can continue to grow his role but I don't think he's going to be an every-down player right now," Zimmer said. Still, the Vikings should be splitting the carries evenly here going forward, with Asiata getting the goal-line work. His arrow is certainly pointing down, leaving him as a touchdown-dependent RB2/3 for Thursday's game against the Packers.
Sep 30 - 10:49 AM

Matt Asiata rushed for 78 yards and three touchdowns on 20 carries in the Vikings' Week 4, 41-28 win over the Falcons.

Asiata got the start and had touchdown runs of three, six, and one yards. The Falcons can't stop anyone on the ground, but give Asiata some credit. He likes to run against bad defenses, as we saw with his three-TD effort against the Eagles last season. Asiata and Jerick McKinnon were a lethal combination on Sunday, totaling 252 yards on 42 touches. They'll be the foundation of Minnesota's offense for the foreseeable future. The duo gets another favorable matchup against the Packers on Thursday. Asiata is a touchdown-dependent RB2/3.
Sep 28 - 8:06 PM

Matt Asiata rushed 12 times for 35 yards in Minnesota's Week 3 loss to the Saints, catching 3-of-6 targets for 36 yards in the passing game.

Asiata out-touched rookie teammate Jerick McKinnon 15-4, and out-gained him 71-8. Asiata's grip on the Vikings' Adrian Peterson-less backfield is firm, but he's averaging just 3.00 yards per carry through 27 totes. Asiata has flashed a little more playmaking ability as a pass catcher, but McKinnon's role should slowly grow. Asiata is a touchdown-dependent RB3.
