Matt Asiata rushed six times for 30 yards in the Vikings' Week 13 loss to the Cowboys.
Asiata "added" one catch for -3 yards. At one point, Asiata took a handoff out of the Wild Cat formation. It was that kind of night for the Vikings. Asiata will remain a touchdown-or-bust RB4/FLEX against the Jags in Week 14. Dec 2 - 12:16 AM

Date:

Matt Asiata rushed five times for 27 yards and a touchdown in the Vikings' Week 12 loss to the Lions, adding three receptions for 14 additional yards.

Asiata cashed in the Vikings' lone goal-line carry for a five-yard touchdown. Still splitting work with Jerick McKinnon and not seeing near enough money-zone carries to make it worth fantasy owners' while, Asiata is an RB4, even in touchdown-heavy leagues.
Nov 24 - 4:08 PM

Matt Asiata rushed five times for 20 yards and a touchdown and caught his lone target for a gain of seven in the Vikings' Week 11 win over the Cardinals.

Asiata was the No. 2 "big back" complement behind Jerick McKinnon, who led the backfield with 15 touches. Asiata chipped in a goal-line score, which is the only real way he's able to provide any fantasy value. Against the Lions in Week 12, Asiata will be a low-floor, touchdown-or-bust flex option.
Nov 20 - 5:59 PM

Matt Asiata had nine carries for 13 yards and a touchdown in Week 10 against Washington.

Asiata remained in a committee with Jerick McKinnon and Ronnie Hillman. He was stuffed on consecutive plays before scoring his one-yard touchdown. Asiata finished with more carries than McKinnon but played fewer snaps. He'll be a touchdown-dependent RB3 in Week 11.
Nov 13 - 4:49 PM

Matt Asiata managed 27 yards on 9 carries and caught 2-of-2 targets for 14 yards in the Vikings' Week 9 loss to the Lions.

The Vikings used a three-way RBBC against the Lions, giving Asiata 11 touches, Ronnie Hillman 8, and Jerick McKinnon 7. Hillman was most effective in the group. For the second week in a row, Asiata was stuffed repeatedly on short-yardage and goal-line chances. He will barely be an RB3 when the Vikings face the Redskins next.
Nov 6 - 4:51 PM

Matt Asiata rushed 14 times for 42 yards in the Vikings' Week 8 loss to the Bears.

He added 36 receiving yards, catching 2-of-5 targets. Asiata dropped at least two passes. He was making the start in place of an injured Jerick McKinnon (ankle), but the Vikings only entered the red zone one time on the night. Asiata got a pair of carries inside the five-yard line, from the four and the three on back-to-back plays, but he was stuffed on both before Sam Bradford took a sack on third-and-goal. It's unclear if McKinnon will be ready for Week 9 against the Lions. If not, Asiata will again be on the RB2 map in a plus spot. But the Vikings' offensive line has opened no running lanes all season. There's touchdown upside, but the offense has to get down to the goal line first.
Oct 31 - 11:55 PM

With Jerick McKinnon (foot) likely to sit, Matt Asiata should start Monday night against the Bears.

Asiata has been a solid fantasy asset the last two games even in a rotation, averaging 90 total yards and finding the end zone once. Now he projects as the clear workhorse in a game the Vikings should win going away. With a locked-in workload and decent shot at a touchdown, Asiata is a solid RB2 this week.
Oct 29 - 12:32 PM

Matt Asiata rushed 12 times for 55 yards and added 25 yards on six catches Week 7 against the Eagles.

With Jerick McKinnon in and out of the lineup with an ankle injury, Asiata was the primary back in the second half. He had a couple nice third down conversions including a long run on third-and-13 in the third quarter, but he was stuffed more often than not. Asiata will be interesting if McKinnon is not ready to face the Bears on Monday night.
Oct 23 - 4:49 PM

Matt Asiata rushed 14 times for 55 yards and a touchdown and caught all three of his targets for an additional 46 yards Week 5 against the Texans.

Asiata once again played well behind Jerick McKinnon when the game was still in doubt, but he made two big plays in the passing game and vultured a one-yard touchdown in the first quarter. He also looked good with the Vikings in clock-killing mode late in the game. Asiata is going to find the end zone several times this season, but picking out those games will be difficult. He will be no better than a desperation flier after the bye.
Oct 9 - 5:10 PM

Matt Asiata rushed six times for six yards and one touchdown in the Vikings' Week 4 win over the Giants.

Classic Asiata. He created nothing on the ground, but was there to vulture a goal-line touchdown in predictable fashion. He also caught both of his targets for 12 yards, but isn't worth owning outside of TD-heavy leagues. Jerick McKinnon out-touched him 21-8 and out-gained him by 78 yards.
Oct 4 - 12:19 AM

Matt Asiata rushed six times for 15 yards in the Vikings' Week 3 win over the Panthers.

He added a four-yard reception. Asiata "started," but got out-touched 17-7 by Jerick McKinnon and soundly out-snapped. He's the clear No. 2 in Minnesota's backfield, albeit still likely to vulture touchdowns. Running behind an extremely weak offensive line, it's hard to see Asiata becoming a weekly RB3 factor.
Sep 25 - 5:43 PM

Matt Asiata has been announced as the Vikings' Week 3 starter at running back.

We still think Jerick McKinnon will lead Minnesota's backfield in touches, but it's indicative of the faith the Vikings have in short-yardage plodder Asiata. He'll get the goal-line carries. McKinnon is a borderline RB2, Asiata a low-upside RB3.
Sep 25 - 11:44 AM

Matt Asiata had six carries for 14 yards in Sunday night's win over the Packers.

Jerick McKinnon is the favorite to replace Adrian Peterson (knee), but Asiata saw more touches on Sunday night. He could have a role on third downs and in the red-zone. Asiata is low upside add behind McKinnon.
Sep 19 - 12:27 AM

Vikings re-signed RB Matt Asiata to a one-year, $840,000 contract.

Asiata played only 209 snaps last year, but had a big special teams role. He'll return as a short-yardage specialist behind Adrian Peterson and Jerick McKinnon.
Mar 16 - 6:09 PM

The Vikings want to re-sign free agent Matt Asiata.

Asiata was mostly limited to special teams last year, playing 209 snaps. He wouldn’t return as more than a short-yardage/pass-block specialist.
