Saints coach Sean Payton said WR Joe Morgan will be utilized as a deep threat against the Bucs.
"If you are just running Cooks vertical then at some point he gets tired," Payton said. "Morgan adds another element of speed. He will play Sunday." Morgan was released at final cuts, but he was re-signed with the team on Wednesday. Morgan will have role in the offense, but he is not worth a look in fantasy. Sep 17 - 9:51 AM

Saints released WR Joe Morgan.

It was originally reported Morgan made the team, but the Saints changed their mind at the last minute. The Times-Picayune's Kat Terrell reported he could be brought back in a couple days.

Saints re-signed WR Joe Morgan.

This one is a bit surprising. Morgan spent the entirety of 2014 in coach Sean Payton's doghouse, first drawing a team-imposed suspension and then getting cut after a bad Week 14 performance. The Saints are low on lid lifters after dealing Kenny Stills, however, and Morgan is a true deep threat. That's if he stays healthy, of course. It's been a challenge for him thus far in his four-year career.

Saints waived WR Joe Morgan.

The Saints promised changes following their humiliating Week 14 home blowout at the hands of the Panthers, and they've started by waiving a role player. A situational deep threat, Morgan drew the ire of both Drew Brees and coach Sean Payton on Sunday, and was suspended earlier this season for unknown reasons. Morgan had caught four passes for 92 yards after missing all of 2013 with a knee injury, adding a 67-yard rush. Although he's already 26 and has a history of knee issues — Morgan also missed all of 2011 — he should draw interest on the open market, though it may not come until the offseason. Morgan's release is a sign Robert Meachem (ankle) is ready to go.

Joe Morgan caught one pass for 62 yards and rushed one time for 67 yards in the Saints' Week 12 loss to the Ravens.

Yes, that's 129 yards on two touches. Morgan took the second play of the game 67 yards on a reverse up the left sideline before getting tackle inside the five-yard line. He later beat Lardarius Webb on a double-move before getting taken down in the red zone again. Morgan is simply a situational deep threat.

Saints activated WR Joe Morgan from the reserve/suspended list.

Morgan's ban ended up lasting two weeks. The Saints never revealed why he was suspended. Active just one time so far this season, it's possible Morgan could eventually be waived.

Saints placed WR Joe Morgan on the reserve/suspended list.

It's unclear if it's a league- or team-mandated suspension. Coach Sean Payton wouldn't elaborate at Tuesday's presser. The fourth-year deep threat has been active just one time this season.

Saints declared WR Joe Morgan, WR Nick Toon, FB Erik Lorig, LB Ramon Humber, LB Kyle Knox, DB Patrick Robinson and NT Brandon Deaderick inactive for Week 7 against the Lions.

Morgan and Toon both appear to be healthy scratches. Kenny Stills should serve as the No. 3 receiver. Robinson (thigh) was expected to play. Corey White will continue to start opposite Keenan Lewis.

Saints WR Joe Morgan is inactive for Sunday night's Week 4 game against the Cowboys.

Morgan is a healthy scratch for the third straight week. The rest of the Saints inactives are RB Mark Ingram, CB Patrick Robinson, S Marcus Ball, FB Erik Lorig, ILB David Hawthorne, and DT John Jenkins.

Saints WR Joe Morgan (knee) is probable for Sunday's game against the Vikings.

Morgan returned to practice Friday and is expected to play this week. He should see playing time in four-wide sets.

Joe Morgan was targeted three times in the Saints' Week 1 loss to Atlanta, but did not record a catch.

Morgan earned the start, but was mostly used on clear-out routes. Brees did target him deep twice, but Morgan could not come down with either. Morgan would likely get another start if Kenny Stills (quad) is unable to go again next week. He has no value in standard fantasy leagues.

Saints WR Joe Morgan is listed as the starter in place of Kenny Stills (quad) for Sunday's Week 1 game against the Falcons.

A speedster that can take the top off any defense, Morgan is a better fit than Brandin Cooks for the clear-out role normally occupied by Stills. The role may allow Morgan to explode for a big play, but he will not see enough targets to be fantasy worthy this week. Cooks remains an interesting play with Stills out.

Saints WR Joe Morgan caught three balls for 108 yards in Friday night's preseason game against the Titans.

He was targeted four times. A burner deep threat, clear-out type, Morgan is on the roster bubble and needed to remind New Orleans' coaching staff of his big-play potential. He accomplished that feat on Friday night. Morgan is behind Marques Colston, Brandin Cooks, Kenny Stills, and Nick Toon at wideout. It's possible he's battling Robert Meachem for one roster spot.

Saints WR Joe Morgan (ACL) is "a go" for training camp.

The word comes straight from coach Sean Payton. Morgan went down last August. He'll compete for a role as a situational deep threat in the Saints' crowded receiver corps.

Saints WR Joe Morgan (ACL) is on track for the start of training camp.

10 months removed from surgery, Morgan has been limited at OTAs. He was non-tendered by the Saints earlier this offseason before being re-signed for the minimum. He will compete for one of the final receiver spots. Morgan showed deep threat potential prior to his injury, but must prove he's healthy to avoid getting cut.
