Saints re-signed WR Joe Morgan to a one-year contract.
Morgan was a restricted free agent, but the Saints gambled they could sign him for less than the "low" tender of $1.431 million, letting him hit the open market. Morgan visited the Chiefs, but otherwise failed to generate interest as he recovers from a torn ACL. Going on 26, Morgan has serious separation skills, but has struggled to stay healthy. Seven months removed from his injury, Morgan is expected to be ready for training camp. Mar 18 - 6:11 PM

Free agent WR Joe Morgan is visiting the Chiefs.

The Saints surprisingly failed to tender Morgan as a restricted free agent, and it's hard to imagine them re-signing him now after ponying up $9 million a year to Jairus Byrd. New Orleans was already in very tough salary cap condition. Morgan is a 26-year-old vertical stretcher with 4.38/4.40 wheels.

Saints declined to tender offers to restricted free agents WR Joe Morgan and FB Joe Morgan, making them unrestricted free agents.

However, the New Orleans Times-Picayune reports the team would like to re-sign both players. Tendering them would have required at least a $1.431 million commitment. Recovering from a torn ACL, Morgan is a serious deep threat, but injuries have limited him to 14 games in three years.

The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports it's "no guarantee" the Saints will tender restricted free agent Joe Morgan.

Reporter Larry Holder believes the Saints would like to re-sign Morgan for less than the "low" tender of $1.39 million. An emerging deep threat in 2012, Morgan missed all of 2013 with a torn ACL. Morgan has rare speed, but injuries have limited him to 14 games in three years.

Saints WR Joe Morgan was given a one-year rehab timetable following his August knee injury.

Morgan sustained a partial tear of his ACL and a torn meniscus during the Saints' Black & Gold scrimmage. The restricted free agent is rehabbing with the intention of battling for the No. 3 wideout and situational deep threat role in 2014 training camp. Morgan had substantial upside as an outside speed demon prior to his injury, but he's appeared in just 14 games through three NFL seasons thanks to two separate knee injuries. The Saints will be anxious to see if he still has the juice.

Saints placed WR Joe Morgan (knee) on injured reserve, ending his season.

The speedy Morgan was slated to be the Saints' clear-cut No. 3 receiver this season. Instead, he'll spend the year rehabbing from a partially torn ACL and torn meniscus sustained during an intrasquad scrimmage earlier this month. Morgan's injury has turned Kenny Stills into a deep re-draft sleeper and must-own in Dynasty formats.

Saints WR Joe Morgan has been diagnosed with a torn meniscus and partially torn ACL and is done for the season.

He underwent surgery on Wednesday, August 7. Morgan injured his knee in Saturday's scrimmage. The heavy favorite for the No. 3 receiver role in the Saints' high-powered aerial attack, Morgan was poised for a breakout year after averaging a mind-boggling 37.9 YPR on ten catches last season. The 25-year-old will look to regain his explosive speed next season. Nick Toon, Steve Breaston, and fifth-rounder Kenny Stills will compete for the No. 3 role.

Saints WR Joe Morgan needs a second opinion on the knee he injured in Saturday's intrasquad scrimmage.

Beat writer Mike Triplett wrote "it's possible that he could be back within a few weeks and play in a preseason game or two," suggesting Morgan faces a lengthy absence. He had a stranglehold on No. 3 receiver duties pre-injury.

The Saints have listed Joe Morgan as a starter in place of Marques Colston (foot) on their initial depth chart.

It's confirmation that Morgan is well ahead of Nick Toon and Kenny Stills for the No. 3 job that was filled by Devery Henderson last year. We don't believe it means that the Saints consider him to be Colston's direct backup. Morgan is an outside speed receiver. Toon is more suited to fill Colston's inside role.

Coach Sean Payton said on Thursday that he still feels Joe Morgan can be the Saints' No. 3 receiver and deep threat this season.

This comes after Morgan was arrested for DUI last week, so it's pretty clear that the third-year receiver's roster spot is secure. Morgan has been upfront when talking about his arrest, and he's been at every practice since. Our feelings on him haven't changed. Morgan is an intriguing dynasty prospect and late-round flier in re-draft leagues. He's competing with rookie Kenny Stills and second-year receivers Nick Toon and Chris Givens for the No. 3 gig.

Saints WR Joe Morgan was arrested early Saturday morning for allegedly driving while intoxicated.

A Louisiana State Trooper found Morgan asleep behind the wheel of his vehicle on the side of an expressway just outside of New Orleans. When Morgan got out of the car, the trooper noticed he was swaying, smelled of alcohol and had bloodshot eyes. Morgan's BAC registered 0.218 percent, way over the legal limit of 0.08 percent. He also didn't have a valid driver's license. Morgan, an interesting deep sleeper in fantasy circles, was on track to battle for the Saints' No. 3 wideout job this season.

Saints WR Joe Morgan is trying to improve as a short-to-intermediate route runner.

The deep threat hauled in 10 catches for an eye-popping 379 yards last season. "You've seen the highlight plays, so that means all the other 31 teams have seen the highlight reel plays," Morgan said. "They're not going to keep letting me run up and down the field. Eventually guys are going to start playing softer coverage and play back me back a little bit." While stretching the field will remain Morgan's primary objective in 2013, it's possible his role will increase enough to garner WR4/5 consideration in fantasy leagues. He's a player to watch this summer.

Saints WR Joe Morgan's role is set to increase in 2013.

Morgan, in his third year out of Walsh, is taking over free agent Devery Henderson's role as the straight-line vertical threat behind Marques Colston and Lance Moore. The 25-year-old says he's also been working with Moore on his short and intermediate route-running skills. Morgan caught ten passes for 379 yards and three scores in 2012, and he's shaping up as a fantasy sleeper.

Joe Morgan caught one pass for eight yards in the Saints' Week 17 loss to the Panthers.

Morgan, an undrafted rookie speedster, finishes with 10 catches for 379 yards and three touchdowns. A true straight-line vertical route-runner, he'll take over Devery Henderson's role full time in 2013. Henderson will be an unrestricted free agent.

Saints OC Pete Carmichael said Friday that he anticipates a bigger role for WR Joe Morgan in New Orleans' 2013 offense.

Devery Henderson is headed for free agency, so explosive Morgan could take over as the Saints' primary streak-route runner. The Saints will also get back Nick Toon, although Morgan is more of a field stretcher. Morgan, 25 in March, has averaged 41.2 yards per catch on nine receptions this season, with three TDs.
