Coach Sean Payton said on Thursday that he still feels Joe Morgan can be the Saints' No. 3 receiver and deep threat this season.
This comes after Morgan was arrested for DUI last week, so it's pretty clear that the third-year receiver's roster spot is secure. Morgan has been upfront when talking about his arrest, and he's been at every practice since. Our feelings on him haven't changed. Morgan is an intriguing dynasty prospect and late-round flier in re-draft leagues. He's competing with rookie Kenny Stills and second-year receivers Nick Toon and Chris Givens for the No. 3 gig. Saints WR Joe Morgan was arrested early Saturday morning for allegedly driving while intoxicated.

A Louisiana State Trooper found Morgan asleep behind the wheel of his vehicle on the side of an expressway just outside of New Orleans. When Morgan got out of the car, the trooper noticed he was swaying, smelled of alcohol and had bloodshot eyes. Morgan's BAC registered 0.218 percent, way over the legal limit of 0.08 percent. He also didn't have a valid driver's license. Morgan, an interesting deep sleeper in fantasy circles, was on track to battle for the Saints' No. 3 wideout job this season.

Saints WR Joe Morgan is trying to improve as a short-to-intermediate route runner.

The deep threat hauled in 10 catches for an eye-popping 379 yards last season. "You've seen the highlight plays, so that means all the other 31 teams have seen the highlight reel plays," Morgan said. "They're not going to keep letting me run up and down the field. Eventually guys are going to start playing softer coverage and play back me back a little bit." While stretching the field will remain Morgan's primary objective in 2013, it's possible his role will increase enough to garner WR4/5 consideration in fantasy leagues. He's a player to watch this summer.

Saints WR Joe Morgan's role is set to increase in 2013.

Morgan, in his third year out of Walsh, is taking over free agent Devery Henderson's role as the straight-line vertical threat behind Marques Colston and Lance Moore. The 25-year-old says he's also been working with Moore on his short and intermediate route-running skills. Morgan caught ten passes for 379 yards and three scores in 2012, and he's shaping up as a fantasy sleeper.

Joe Morgan caught one pass for eight yards in the Saints' Week 17 loss to the Panthers.

Morgan, an undrafted rookie speedster, finishes with 10 catches for 379 yards and three touchdowns. A true straight-line vertical route-runner, he'll take over Devery Henderson's role full time in 2013. Henderson will be an unrestricted free agent.

Saints OC Pete Carmichael said Friday that he anticipates a bigger role for WR Joe Morgan in New Orleans' 2013 offense.

Devery Henderson is headed for free agency, so explosive Morgan could take over as the Saints' primary streak-route runner. The Saints will also get back Nick Toon, although Morgan is more of a field stretcher. Morgan, 25 in March, has averaged 41.2 yards per catch on nine receptions this season, with three TDs.

Joseph Morgan caught two passes for 61 yards and a touchdown in Week 15 against the Bucs.

Morgan only averaged 30.5 yards-per-reception on Sunday, so that will lower his astronomical YPR rate to just 41.2. He's not a fantasy option in re-draft leagues, but Morgan is someone to keep in mind for the future.

Joseph Morgan caught two passes for 106 yards in New Orleans' Week 14 loss to the Giants.

Morgan ran past the entire Giants' secondary on both of his grabs, posting gains of 62 and 44. The catches were just his sixth and seventh of the year, but he's up to 310 receiving yards thanks to an absurd 44.3 yards per catch. A second-year UDFA, Morgan is someone to keep an eye on in Dynasty leagues.

Joe Morgan caught one pass for 38 yards in Week 13 versus the Falcons.

Morgan reeled in one of his two targets on the night and is no more than a situational deep threat. The second-year wideout caught his lone pass in the first quarter. The play was most notable because Asante Samuel aggravated a shoulder injury on the play. Morgan is deep down the Saints' receiving pecking order.

Saints WR Joseph Morgan (chest) practiced fully on Saturday and is probable for Monday Night Football.

Morgan hasn't played since scoring a highlight, 48-yard touchdown in Week 7. The New Orleans Times-Picayune expects him to be available for his role as a situational deep threat behind Marques Colston, Lance Moore, and Devery Henderson.

Saints WR Joseph Morgan (chest) has been ruled out for Week 8 at Denver.

It's not clear if Morgan suffered the injury on his highlight-reel touchdown catch last week. He had been playing as a situational deep threat, behind Marques Colston, Lance Moore, and Devery Henderson.

Saints WR Joseph Morgan was taken to the hospital Sunday to check on a chest injury.

Morgan caught a 48-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter of Sunday's win over the Bucs, but his injury puts a damper on the day. Doctors are likely checking for lung or rib damage. While playing behind Marques Colston, Lance Moore and Devery Henderson, Morgan won't be worth an add anyway.

Joseph Morgan is in line to be the Saints' No. 3 wideout this week.

Devery Henderson (concussion) is questionable at best and Adrian Arrington (knee) is out for the season. That leaves Morgan, a speedy undrafted free agent out of NAIA Walsh in 2011. Still, there's not much to see here for fantasy owners. Morgan would be behind Jimmy Graham, Marques Colston, Lance Moore and Darren Sproles in the battle for targets.

Saints WR Joe Morgan has had an "inconsistent" training camp this year.

He continues to flash big-play ability in preseason games, however. Squarely on the roster bubble, Morgan hauled in a 53-yard score from Chase Daniel to open the second half Friday night. Morgan's deep speed and downfield playmaking ability should give him an edge on the final wide receiver spot in the Big Easy.

Jeff Duncan of the New Orleans Times-Picayune nominates Joe Morgan as the "sleeper" to earn the Saints' final spot at wide receiver.

The Saints have typically kept just five receivers. It will be interesting to see if Morgan, Adrian Arrington, and fourth-rounder Nick Toon play well enough to put the squeeze on veteran Devery Henderson, due $2.65 million this season. Labeled a "phenom" in training camp, Morgan was making a strong push for a roster spot last August before a meniscus tear ended his season before it got started.
