Jon Runyan is expected to formally announce his candidacy for Congress in New Jersey's 3rd District within the next couple of weeks.
Runyan, who joined the Chargers for the final six weeks of the last season, hasn't officially announced his retirement from the NFL yet. But he's always had an eye on politics, and is one of the more popular Eagles of the last decade. We won't see him in pads again. Mon, Feb 8, 2010 10:52:00 AM

Jon Runyan rotated with at right tackle Brandyn Dombrowski in Week 16.

Dombrowski remains the starter, but Runyan is getting work just in case he's called into duty. Once the playoffs hit, Runyan will be the third tackle. The Chargers will likely give all their front-line players significant rest against the Redskins Sunday.

OT Jon Runyan is expected to make his Chargers debut this week.

Runyan won't immediately step in for Brandyn Dombrowski as a starter. He'll be worked in for a couple series as he works himself back into game shape. It will be interesting to see how effective Runyan can be after being out of football for nearly a year.

Newly signed Chargers OT Jon Runyan plans to retire after the season.

Runyan will run for Congress in New Jersey's 3rd district in 2010. "I look forward to a successful end to my career on the field," he said, "and a spirited campaign against Congressman (John) Adler." He will run as a Republican.

Chargers signed OT Jon Runyan, formerly of the Eagles.

Brandyn Dombrowski will start at right tackle until Runyan shows he's ready to contribute in practice. Runyan started an amazing 192 straight games between 1997 and 2008, but turns 36 in three days and is coming off microfacture surgery. He's not likely to be an upgrade in pass protection.

Ex-Eagles OT Jon Runyan is reportedly on his way to San Diego to "try to work out a deal" with the Chargers.

The Chargers are desperate for a veteran presence at right tackle after losing Jeromey Clary to a serious ankle injury last week. Several teams have kicked the tires on the 36-year-old Runyan only to explore other options.

The Eagles reportedly have no plans to sign free agent OT Jon Runyan.

It's because RT Winston Justice was highly effective in the team's Week 1 blowout of Carolina, limiting the Panthers' rotation of LEs to just three solo tackles and no sacks. The Birds may have their right tackle of the future.

After working out for the Bills Friday, free agent OT Jon Runyan said he feels "great."

Runyan, 35, can't feel that great considering his age and the fact he's coming off microfracture surgery. He's worked out for the Chiefs, Bill and Eagles and surprisingly reported no swelling or pain in his knees. Philadelphia seems to be the best fit with Shawn Andrews' back flaring up and Winston Justice filling in for now.

Free agent OT Jon Runyan is scheduled to meet with the Bills on Friday.

Runyan worked out for the Eagles on Thursday after visiting Kansas City earlier in the week. He would probably prefer to return to Philly, but the Bills and Chiefs have a greater need.

Free agent OT Jon Runyan worked out for the Eagles Thursday.

Runyan says he is ready to go after microfracture surgery in January. He spent nine seasons with the Eagles and never missed a game. The Eagles have had some injuries on the offensive line, but everyone except Todd Herremans appears healthy right now. Runyan reportedly worked out for the Chiefs yesterday, but his preference would be to stay in Philadelphia.

Free agent OT Jon Runyan is reportedly working out for the Chiefs Tuesday afternoon.

Runyan (microfracture surgery) recently received full clearance to play in 2009. The veteran is on his last legs, but the Chiefs are desperate to fill their gaping hole at right tackle.

Free agent OT Jon Runyan (microfracture surgery) has been medically cleared to play this season.

Three teams have reportedly contacted Runyan, including one team that has already offered him a contract. The veteran turned down the offer, presumably because he wanted to hold out for a better opportunity.

Free agent OT Jon Runyan (microfracture surgery) has been cleared for full contact.

Now Runyan needs to find a team. He has no workouts scheduled and his former team, the Eagles, said it's "unlikely" they'll bring Runyan back. At some point the 35-year-old Runyan will get a call, although it might take an injury somewhere to make it happen.

ESPN's Chris Mortensen does not expect free agent OT Jon Runyan to make it back to the Eagles.

This goes against a lot of speculation and Andy Reid may not be telling the truth. Big Red said he's happy with Winston Justice, who has been a bust so far in his career to say the least. With Shawn Andrews being as unreliable as ever, Runyan would make sense for the Eagles, even if Reid won't admit it.

Free agent OT Jon Runyan has been medically cleared to participate in an NFL camp after offseason microfracture surgery.

This will get the ball rolling on his market value. The Eagles are still a very good fit with Shawn Andrews battling chronic back problems. Runyan could also get looks from Washington, Green Bay, Buffalo, and San Francisco.
