Packers waived RB Brandon Saine.
Saine tore his ACL in Week 6. The 2011 UDFA carried 18 times for 69 yards as a rookie, but didn't touch the ball on offense last season. It's not a good sign for Saine's future that a team as RB-needy as the Packers are cutting him loose at this stage of the offseason. Apr 24 - 3:25 PM

Packers placed RB Brandon Saine on injured reserve with a torn ACL, ending his season.

A second-year UDFA out of Ohio State, Saine has been unremarkable in his brief career, rushing 18 times for 69 yards in his first season but showing some passing-down chops. The ACL tear could threaten Saine's long-term NFL outlook.

Coach Mike McCarthy called Brandon Saine's knee injury "significant."

McCarthy rarely comments on injuries immediately after games, so there's speculation that Saine could be done for the season. The Packers only healthy tailbacks right now are Alex Green and James Starks.

Brandon Saine was forced from Sunday night's game with a knee injury, and will not return.

Saine was seeing extremely limited touches before departing, and had yet to notch a carry. He had to be carted to the locker room. It's bad news for a Packers' running back corps still adjusting to the loss of Cedric Benson, but Saine is a distant third on the depth chart behind Alex Green and James Starks.

Packers RB Brandon Saine (hamstring) has resumed practicing at training camp.

Saine missed the majority of camp and each of the first three preseason games, but the organization is high enough on him that Saine is expected to make the final roster. A 2011 undrafted free agent out of Ohio State, Saine averaged 3.83 yards per carry as a rookie, but made four special teams tackles.

Packers RB Brandon Saine has yet to practice in training camp due to a hamstring injury.

We saw some desperation hype on Saine before camp, but he was never much of a player to begin with and has been on the shelf. It's fair to wonder whether he'll even make the final roster, assuming James Starks comes back healthy from turf toe. The Packers also have Alex Green and signed Cedric Benson.

ESPN Milwaukee believes RB Brandon Saine is the favorite for third-down work in Green Bay's backfield.

Although Saine is a pedestrian runner and receiver, he's certainly ahead of starter James Starks in pass protection. Fullback John Kuhn also projects to see some third-down snaps and Starks will get a chance to earn the job as well. It's a battle to watch as camp progresses, particularly for PPR purposes.

Coach Mike McCarthy referred to Brandon Saine as potentially the most consistent of the Packers' running backs.

Saine may be consistent, but he doesn't have the same talent or pedigree as James Starks or Alex Green. The former undrafted free agent turned practice squad player projects as the No. 3 tailback in training camp as long as Green (torn ACL) is ready to go.

Brandon Saine rushed for 28 yards on eight carries and caught three passes for 17 yards in the Packers' Week 17 win over the Lions.

Saine is trusted enough by the coaching staff in passing situations that it's a shame he's not much of a runner. He will return to fourth-string running duties when James Starks gets back from his ankle injury during the playoffs. Starks, Ryan Grant, and John Kuhn are all ahead in the pecking order.

Brandon Saine (concussion) returned to action in Week 16 with one carry for eight yards.

Saine played behind Ryan Grant, James Starks and John Kuhn. But with Starks aggravating his ankle injury and the Packers already locking up home-field advantage, Saine could play a major role against the Lions in Week 17. Fantasy owners still grinding should consider an add.

Brandon Saine (concussion) returned to practice Wednesday.

Saine has apparently gotten medical clearance. But he won't be a fantasy option with James Starks, Ryan Grant and John Kuhn all looking healthy.

Brandon Saine (concussion, questionable) missed practice again Friday.

Saine is not expected to play Sunday against the Chiefs.

Packers RB Brandon Saine (concussion) missed practice again on Thursday.

Saine's status for Week 15 remains up in the air, but it's not looking good at this point. Expect Ryan Grant and John Kuhn to garner the majority of the carries against the Chiefs.

Packers RB Brandon Saine (concussion) missed Wednesday's practice.

The missed practice indicates that Saine has yet to pass the NFL's protocol concussion testing. He won't be a fantasy option in Week 15 against the Chiefs.

Brandon Saine (concussion) "probably" will be able to play against the Chiefs in Week 15, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.

Saine saw just three touches for 21 yards before going down against the Raiders last week. His injury allowed John Kuhn to kill the clock with 10 carries for 46 yards. James Starks' (ankle) status for this week is unclear right now.
