Recent News reports the Eagles interviewed NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah for their director of player personnel opening.
The former scout was never made a formal offer, and ended up accepting a new long-term deal with NFL Network. With the NFL seemingly growing more open to fresh voices, perhaps Jeremiah will take a front-office job somewhere else down the line. He's a recommended follow on Twitter. Georgia DC Todd Grantham said he's not at the point with any NFL teams where he feels like he has to "contractually say something."

If Grantham had a deal in place with the Eagles or Saints, he likely would have announced it after NCAA signing day concluded Wednesday. He certainly would have been obligated to inform Georgia's athletic department that he was close to a deal. Instead, Grantham remained tight-lipped on potential interviews even though the Saints have said they'll speak with him Thursday.

CBS' Jason La Canfora "continues to hear" Georgia DC Todd Grantham could accept the same position with the Eagles.

Grantham was the early favorite to serve as Chip Kelly's defensive boss, but's Albert Breer reported on January 21 the Eagles were "(planning to stay) in the NFL" when hiring a coordinator. Grantham hasn't been directly linked to the Eagles in nearly three weeks. Grantham — a 3-4 specialist — will reportedly interview for the Saints' DC job on Thursday.

The Eagles are expected to hire a defensive coordinator "soon."

With the Super Bowl now in the rear-view mirror, 49ers and Ravens assistants are in play for the job. The Philadelphia Inquirer reports the Eagles are interested in Ravens LBs coach Ted Monachino, while 49ers DBs coach Ed Donatell isn't as high on the wish list. Of course, their respective teams can block the Eagles from interviewing them. Another scenario is that Philadelphia could wait until after Wednesday's NCAA National Signing Day to name a college coordinator. Either way, the process should heat up this week.

49ers DBs coach Ed Donatell says he and the Eagles have had no "official" contact regarding their defensive-coordinator vacancy.

With the 49ers in the Super Bowl, Donatell and the Eagles have been unable to "officially" talk, but that doesn't mean they haven't had conversations. The former Packers and Falcons coordinator seems to be the odds-on favorite for the job in Philly. Donatell also said "there's no question about it" that he's a 3-4 guy now after running 4-3 defenses in his previous stops.

The Eagles interviewed Browns LBs coach Billy Davis for their defensive-coordinator vacancy on Sunday.

Credit Philly Mag's Tim McManus with the initial scoop on Sunday morning. Davis has previous coordinator experience with the 49ers from 2005-06 under Mike Nolan and with the Cardinals from 2009-10. Davis has worked extensively with the 3-4 defense that Chip Kelly reportedly desires to bring to Philadelphia.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reports the Eagles are interested in Ravens LBs coach Ted Monachino for their defensive-coordinator vacancy.

Monachino has been a position coach in the NFL for the last seven years, spending the last three with the Ravens. The only coordinator experience he has is from 1991-95 at two Missouri high schools. The Eagles won't be able to make a move on Monachino, 46, until after the Super Bowl, and the Ravens have the right to block him from leaving.

Philly Mag's Tim McManus reports a name to "keep an eye on" for the Eagles' defensive-coordinator vacancy is Browns LBs coach Billy Davis.

Davis, 47, has been with the Browns for the past two seasons, and he does have coordinator experience with the Cardinals from 2009-10 and the 49ers from 2005-06. Davis runs a 3-4 defense, which fits Chip Kelly's preference.

Philly Mag: Birds 24/7 says there is a "good chance" the Eagles transition to a 3-4 defense under new head coach Chip Kelly.

Kelly hasn't publicly spoken on the transition, but since his hiring it has been rumored that is the direction he is looking. The Eagles also have yet to hire a defensive coordinator, however 49ers DBs coach Ed Donatell has been linked as the favorite. New Eagles coaches reportedly discussed the transition with Illinois OLB/DE Michael Buchanan at the Senior Bowl, as well. The move would likely be bad news for MLB DeMeco Ryans, but DL Fletcher Cox would seem to be a perfect fit as a 3-4 defensive end.

FOX Philadelphia's Howard Eskin reports 49ers DBs coach Ed Donatell is "likely" to be hired as Chip Kelly's defensive coordinator.

Eskin's report comes via "two NFL sources." CSN Philly reported Monday that Donatell had "surfaced" as a candidate. Donatell has seven years of experience as an NFL coordinator, but hasn't run a defense at the highest level since 2006. He served as the University of Washington's DC in 2008. Kelly is believed to be interested in installing a 3-4 defense, but Donatell is known for using a 4-3.

Geoff Mosher of CSN Philly is "hearing" 49ers DBs coach Ed Donatell has "surfaced" as a potential defensive coordinator candidate for the Eagles.

Donatell has been in San Francisco for the past two seasons. Prior to that, Donatell served as the defensive coordinator with the Packers from 2000-03 and with the Falcons from 2004-06. The Eagles wouldn't be able to make a move on him until after the Super Bowl in two weeks.

Giants LBs coach Jim Herrmann has withdrawn his name from the Eagles' defensive-coordinator search.

He'll stay with the Giants. Philadelphia has been quiet in its search for a defensive boss. The only other two names linked to the job have been Alabama's Kirby Smart and Georgia's Todd Grantham. However,'s Albert Breer reported earlier Monday that the Eagles plan to stay out of the college ranks.
Mon, Jan 21, 2013 11:35:00 AM's Albert Breer reports the Eagles plan to stay in the NFL when picking their defensive coordinator.

The Eagles have been linked to just two candidates so far: Giants LBs coach Jim Herrmann and University of Georgia DC Todd Grantham. If this report rings true, we can rule out Grantham. Breer says Chip Kelly and the Eagles prefer a current NFL mind because of the inexperienced college positional coaches Kelly is bringing to the NFL with him.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Eagles are interviewing Giants LBs coach Jim Herrmann for their defensive-coordinator vacancy.

Georgia's Todd Grantham was the early favorite to serve as Chip Kelly's defensive boss, but the Eagles are doing their due diligence. Herrmann was the University of Michigan's defensive coordinator from 1997-2005, but has coached only linebackers since breaking into the NFL in 2006.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport shot down Friday internet rumors that the Eagles were hiring Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart.

"No truth to it," a source told Rapoport. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution's Twitter feed relayed "reports" indicating Smart was leaving the Tide for Philadelphia, but Rapoport suspects it was "some UGA peeps having some fun" with their SEC rivals. Smart is expected to return under Nick Saban in 2013.
