Coach Gary Kubiak said "we've got to find some other guys to produce" alongside Andre Johnson.
The Texans tried to fill their wideout woes with three rookies last year. DeVier Posey was showing flashes but tore his Achilles' in the playoffs, Keshawn Martin is a slot guy and Lestar Jean played on just 193 snaps all season. The Texans don't appear sold on any of them. After finally letting Kevin Walter go, they're widely expected to pursue a receiver early in next week's draft. Apr 17 - 12:12 PM

Lestar Jean caught two passes for 31 yards in Monday night's Week 14 loss to the Patriots.

Jean was targeted five times on the night and seems to have bypassed struggling rookie Keshawn Martin as the team's No. 3 receiver. Jean possesses good size and runs like the wind, but he has unreliable hands. It showed on the opening drive, as he dropped his first target down the right sideline. Jean has six catches on the season.

Lestar Jean caught his lone target for a 54-yard touchdown in Week 13 against the Titans.

Jean's score put the Texans on the board in the first quarter. It should have been a meager 10-yard gain, but Titans safety Michael Griffin took a bad angle and went for the bat-down. Jean then slipped down the sideline and took it to the house. It was just his fourth catch of the season.

Lestar Jean (knee surgery) was held without a target in his return to the lineup in Week 6.

If Jean played a snap in Houston's loss to the Packers, we didn't see it. Jean has only two catches through four games.

Texans coach Gary Kubiak says rookie WR Lestar Jean (knee surgery) "will be back and ready" for Week 6.

Jean got in a limited session in Wednesday's practice, and is ready to resume reserve receiver duties. Jean is an intriguing talent, but notched just two catches for 55 yards before going down, and remains off the redraft radar in fantasy leagues.

Texans WR Lestar Jean (knee) has been ruled out for Week 5 on Monday night.

Jean underwent arthroscopic surgery to repair his meniscus after Week 3 and is considered week-to-week. He has been recovering quickly, so we could see the receiver back on the field in Week 6. Jean has just two catches this season but remains someone to monitor in fantasy. Quintin Demps (broken forearm) has officially been ruled out, also.

Texans declared WR Lestar Jean, QB John Beck, DB Roc Carmichael, CB Brandon Harris, LB Mister Alexander, OT Andrew Gardner and G Brandon Brooks inactive for Sunday's Week 4 game against the Titans.

Recovering from a knee scope, Jean will be an end-of-the-week decision for Week 5. "Our expectations were that he would miss a couple of games, but he's come along pretty darn quick," said coach Gary Kubiak.

Texans WR Lestar Jean required arthroscopic surgery this week because he tore a piece of his lateral meniscus in Week 3.

Jean played through the injury for the majority of the game. He's already walking without crutches after Tuesday's scope, and doesn't expect to miss more than a week or two.

Texans WR Lestar Jean will undergo surgery for a "meniscus issue" on Tuesday, but could be back as early as Week 5.

It's just a scope, but Jean will likely be hard pressed to miss only one game. Jean reeled in a 46-yard catch on his lone target of Sunday's win, but has just two catches through three games. His surgery pushes him further off the fantasy radar.

Lestar Jean gained 46 yards on his lone catch in the Texans' Week 3 win in Denver.

Jean skied over Chris Harris in the third quarter, pulling down a jump ball before turning on the jets to tack on some major extra yardage. It was his only target of the game, however, while the catch was just his second of the season. In other words, he's still not ready for fantasy prime time. Jean remains someone to monitor.

Seeing action with the first-team offense in Saturday night's preseason game against the 49ers, Lestar Jean finished with four catches for 42 yards and a touchdown.

We hadn't heard from Jean in a few weeks with rookie Keshawn Martin generating more buzz, but the second-year wideout made a dent against San Francisco on Saturday night. "He continues to step up every time he gets a chance," observed coach Gary Kubiak after the game. Jean remains in the mix for No. 3 receiver duties in Houston, and he will start if Andre Johnson goes down again.

Coach Gary Kubiak confirmed that Lestar Jean will fill in as the Texans' first-team X receiver while Andre Johnson nurses his mild groin strain.

Jean worked with the first team all spring, and he's getting starter's reps in contact practices now, too. "He’s got a ways to go," Kubiak acknowledged of Jean. "I love his work habits. I love how he goes about his business. He’s got all the tools: the size, he can run, he’s smart. Lestar has just got to become a pro. Every day he just has to be consistent and make a play."

The Houston Chronicle's Lance Zierlein expects Lestar Jean to be the Texans' first receiver off the bench this season.

Andre Johnson and Kevin Walter are the Texans' starters, and it sounds like Jean will play in all three-receiver sets. An astute football mind whose father was a longtime NFL offensive line coach, Zierlein writes that he's "buying into the hype" on Jean as a 2012 impact player. Zierlein notes that Jean possesses "tremendous hands" with "an ability to operate vertically as well." Jean is a name to keep in mind in case Johnson or Walter gets injured.

Coach Gary Kubiak is not yet ready to confirm that Lestar Jean has established himself as the Texans' third receiver.

Kubiak offered hints that the Texans may still explore signing a veteran receiver. "I'm concerned about the youth of the receiving group, which we keep talking about," Kubiak said. "I like the ability, as I've told y'all all along. Bottom line, none of them have been in games, and so that's going to be a concern until we get going."

Lestar Jean has earned the nickname "Big Play" for his OTA performances, and WRs coach Larry Kirksey says Jean has already grasped all three receiver positions.

Jean's knowledge of all three spots suggests he could be a threat to Kevin Walter, and isn't just behind Andre Johnson on the depth chart. "He has engulfed himself in the offense," Kirksey said. "His attention to detail is excellent." Kirksey went so far as to compare Johnson and Jean to a couple of Hall of Famers: "I remember Terrell Owens watching and following Jerry Rice. After a while, I couldn’t tell the difference between the two guys on the field. That’s a special situation, but hopefully this will be something like the same scenario."
