Dockery appeared in five games as a reserve corner this season, playing just 17 snaps. The Panthers have signed OL Travis Bond off the Vikings practice squad to replace him on the active roster.

Dockery has played just 17 snaps on defense this season. He'll be a candidate for injured reserve if he's sidelined much longer than two weeks.

The Panthers are just looking for healthy bodies to help with depth and special teams. They've already lost standouts Jon Beason, Chris Gamble and Ryan Kalil for the season.

The Cleveland Plain Dealer's Mary Kay Cabot does not expect CB James Dockery to push Sheldon Brown for a starting job.

Dockery went undrafted last season, but made the team with a strong training camp and preseason. He played only 13 defensive snaps, however, and was inactive for the team's final three games. His main contributions will come on special teams this season.

Browns GM Tom Heckert suggested rookie CB James Dockery has earned a roster spot with a strong showing in preseason action.

"I think he's proven he can play in this league," Heckert said. Undrafted out of Oregon State, Dockery has been on our radar since the Cleveland Plain Dealer named him one of the biggest surprises in its training camp wrap-up. He'll back up at cornerback and safety while pitching in on special teams.
