Suspended free agent DT Hollis Thomas will play for the Omaha Nighthawks of the UFL, a source tells Mike Florio of Profootballtalk.com.

Since Thomas is suspended for the first eight games of the NFL season anyway, he might as well stay in shape by playing for Omaha. By the time the UFL season is over, Thomas will have some tape to show NFL teams.

This explains why Thomas never drew interest after a solid season as a run-stuffer in Carolina. The Panthers never even entertained the idea of bringing him back. Now 36 years old, Thomas might consider hanging up his cleats.

Panthers DT Hollis Thomas is not expected to be back with the team in 2010.

The massive Thomas immediately stepped into the starting lineup for the Panthers after being signed in Week 5. At 36, he was a quality one-year fill-in for a Carolina defensive line plagued by injuries in 2009, but the Panthers have younger alternatives for 2010 and beyond. His career could be finished.

Newly signed DT Hollis Thomas stepped right into the Panthers' starting lineup in Week 5.

Thomas was signed during the bye week to help the Panthers' struggling run defense and he did just that against the Redskins. The Panthers held the Skins to 74 rushing yards on 24 attempts, a 3.1 yards per carry average.

Thomas, 35, was just cut by the Rams, so we know not to expect much. The Panthers are just so decimated on the defensive line that they need warm bodies. About five years ago, Thomas was an excellent run-stopper at 6'0/335.

Thomas couldn't beat out Clifton Ryan to start at nose tackle and made just two tackles off the bench in three games. The 35-year-old may be finished.

Rams signed DT Hollis Thomas, formerly of the Saints.

Thomas, now 35, will play about 20 snaps a game as run-stopping specialist, rotating with Cliff Ryan and teaching him the ropes. Though he offers no pass rush, the Rams need to stop the run before they start pressuring the quarterback anyway.

Thomas is expected to decide between four teams this week. We knew the Eagles were one, and the Lions look like another. Detroit has to protect itself with starting NT Grady Jackson at risk of a four-game StarCaps suspension.

We know the Eagles are one. Other suitors could be the Lions, Falcons, Rams, and Vikings (who may be without starting DTs Pat and Kevin Williams for the first four games). Thomas, 35, can add depth at the nose tackle spot.

Thomas, 35, played 10 season for the Eagles early his career. He doesn't have much left in the tank after getting released by the Saints, but Philly is believed to be looking for training camp depth at defensive tackle.

The move saves money, and Thomas doesn't have much left in tank at age 35, but the Saints are now hurting for depth inside. Rod Coleman is returning after a year away from football, but he wouldn't fill Thomas' situational run-stopper role. While last year's fifth-rounder DeMario Pressley has the size, his talent is questionable.
