Eagles signed fourth-round QB Matt Barkley to a four-year contract.
Barkley has reportedly been impressive in his month-and-a-half with the Eagles. He's displayed "fantastic accuracy," but NFL.com's Albert Breer also noted that there's a "sizable gap" in arm strength between Barkley and Michael Vick. Coach Chip Kelly has stressed that accuracy is the main thing he's looking for in a quarterback. Barkley seems to have a legitimate shot at earning the starting job, but we'll find out a lot more in training camp and preseason action. Jun 13 - 3:38 PM

According to NFL.com's Albert Breer, Matt Barkley has displayed "fantastic accuracy" in Eagles rookie minicamp.

However, Breer admits there's a "sizable" gap in arm strength between Barkley and Michael Vick. Barkley's accuracy has never been a question mark, so it would be news if he wasn't fantastically accurate in pad-less practices. Barkley's weak arm is the reason he's facing middling odds of carving out a long and productive NFL career.

The Philadelphia Inquirer thinks there's a chance fourth-round QB Matt Barkley could "get the nod" as the Eagles' starter.

Anything is possible, but it would be a huge surprise if Barkley took the first snap in Week 1. Beat writer Jeff McLane points to Barkley's accuracy, ball placement, and ability to throw on the run as reasons why coach Chip Kelly could prefer the rookie over Michael Vick and Nick Foles. Plus, Barkley is the only signal caller hand-picked by Kelly. It's going to be an interesting summer in Philly.

New Eagles QB Matt Barkley (shoulder) says he's "good to go" for OTAs.

A league source tells the Philadelphia Inquirer Barkley "(wasn't) quite 100 percent" for his pre-draft workouts, but he's since fully healed. "I just can't wait to get into minicamps and prove myself and show that I do have a strong arm, and I am capable of playing in this league, and playing strong," Barkley said. Barkley isn't a realistic candidate for the Eagles' starting job.

Eagles traded up with the Jaguars to select USC QB Matt Barkley with the No. 98 overall pick, sending Jacksonville the Nos. 101 and 201 picks.

Oddest fit of the draft so far. Barkley (6-foot-2 1/2, 227) wrapped his college career with a 64.1 completion rate and 116:48 TD-to-INT ratio as a four-year starter in USC's pro-style offense. Though decorated and productive, Barkley's inability to drive throws outside the numbers and lack of mobility put a lid on his long-range upside. Barkley draws high marks for intelligence and leadership, but has a skill set similar to Andy Dalton or Chad Pennington. Based on tape study, NFL Films' Greg Cosell has called Barkley a fourth-round talent -- he proved dead-on -- and insists Mark Sanchez was a better prospect coming out of USC. New Eagles coach Chip Kelly has been open about changing his offense to suit his personnel, but we wouldn't be surprised if Barkley never played a down in Philadelphia and is simply being drafted as future trade bait.

USC QB Matt Barkley, Syracuse QB Ryan Nassib, and South Carolina RB Marcus Lattimore headline the list of notable players still available after the first two days of the 2013 NFL draft.

The list of big-name and starting-caliber players left is lengthy and a testament to this draft's depth. Draft guru Josh Norris' best-available column is accessible at the below link. More highly rated players still undrafted include Arkansas QB Tyler Wilson, UCLA RB Johnathan Franklin, Texas DE Alex Okafor, Tennessee Tech WR Da'Rick Rogers, and Alabama NT Jesse Williams.

ESPN's Chris Mortensen stated on SportsCenter that he expects USC QB Matt Barkley and Mississippi State CB Johnthan Banks to be on the Jaguars' radar at No. 33 overall.

Keep in mind Mortensen called Brian Quick to the Rams at 33 at roughly this same time last year, while many expected them to draft Rueben Randle or a large host of alternatives. The Banks idea -- a good one because he'd fit new Jags coach Gus Bradley's press-man scheme -- was previously floated by NFL.com's Gil Brandt. Mort didn't rule out the possibility of a Jaguars trade down.

ESPN's Bill Williamson is "hearing a lot of chatter" about the Raiders targeting USC QB Matt Barkley at No. 42.

That's the pick the Raiders got from the Dolphins for trading down from No. 3 to No. 12. Barkley hasn't been strongly connected to any team since the draft kicked off at 8ET Thursday evening, but there's buzz as many as three QBs could come off the board between picks 33-39. Rotoworld's second-round mock has Barkley tumbling to the Bears at No. 50.
Apr 26 - 1:18 PM

According to ProFootballTalk.com, the "thinking in league circles" is that the Jaguars are targeting USC's Matt Barkley or Syracuse's Ryan Nassib with the No. 33 overall pick.

New coach Gus Bradley isn't going to go down with the old regime's problem in Blaine Gabbert. The Jags are going to come out of this draft with a quarterback they like, and they appear to be higher on Barkley than most. While Nassib is expected to be a Bill before Round 1 is over, Barkley is likely to be available when Round 2 opens. The Jags may be able to hide his weak arm in the throwing-friendly stadiums of the AFC South.

Both NFL Network's Albert Breer and SI's Peter King believe the Bills may prefer Matt Barkley to Ryan Nassib.

King believes Buffalo is "seriously targeting" Barkley. We have a hard time buying this for several reasons, not the least of which is Barkley's weak arm in the inclement Buffalo weather. They also play in New York (Jets) and Foxboro (Patriots) each year. Barkley is a day-two prospect at best on game tape. Of course, the Bills under GM Buddy Nix are not averse to draft-day curveballs.

According to CBS' Jason La Canfora, the Jaguars are "high on" USC QB Matt Barkley.

Barkley isn't a candidate for the No. 2 pick, but a potential trade back into the final third of the first round. NFL.com's Albert Breer reported earlier Tuesday the Rams' No. 22 pick is viewed as a "potential landing place" for teams looking to move up to get a quarterback. Barkley is a second-round talent on tape, but appears likely to come off the board on day one.
Apr 23 - 10:53 PM

An AFC coach who has "studied (him) extensively" believes USC QB Matt Barkley "has a personality that is going to take him a long way."

Yahoo's Mike Silver also reports a "high-level executive for one quarterback-needy franchise" was so underwhelmed by Barkley's arm strength at his Pro Day that he left early. Barkley is going to draw plaudits for leadership and intangibles, but it's his arm that's going to make-or-break his first-round status.
Apr 22 - 12:02 PM

WGR 550 Buffalo's Joe Buscaglia believes the Bills' pick at No. 8 overall is a "two-horse race" between Ryan Nassib and Matt Barkley.

Buscaglia is a plugged-in Bills beat writer and reporter. He says Buffalo "likes Barkley a lot," and it sounds like the two quarterbacks are neck-and-neck to go eighth overall. Because of their Nassib ties and his superior skill set to Barkley, we strongly suspect the Bills would prefer Nassib. In an ideal world, Buffalo would trade down in round one and still come away with a new QB.
Apr 21 - 6:52 PM

GM Buddy Nix doesn't believe the Bills would be reaching if they took a quarterback at No. 8 overall.

Oh boy. "This quarterback class is better than everybody thinks it," Nix insisted. "Five or six of those guys — maybe seven — do a lot of things good and do them good enough to win. ... I've said this from the start, that two or three of these guys will be franchise quarterbacks. I believe that." The Bills are considered likely to come away with an early-round QB, but not at No. 8. The fact that Nix is already conducting PR on a pick he fears could be labeled a reach should change that, however. Coach Doug Marrone has been heavily connected to his college QB Ryan Nassib, but he'd be a massive reach at 8. Perhaps the Bills will trade back on day one, or trade up on day two, where they pick at No. 41.
Apr 16 - 2:33 PM

Speaking to ESPN's Adam Schefter, an NFL GM predicted quarterbacks are "going to fall like logs" in the draft.

The anonymous GM's prediction came after the Cardinals, Raiders and Bills all made quarterback moves last week. While Arizona's acquisition of Carson Palmer has taken it out of the running for an early-round QB, the Bills and Raiders' respective additions of Kevin Kolb and Matt Flynn shouldn't be roadblocks to adding young talent. As a general rule, QBs tend to go earlier than anticipated, not later.
