Retired OT Tra Thomas has accepted a coaching internship with the Eagles.

The three-time Pro Bowler played his final game in 2009, but didn't officially retire until the following August. Thomas' internship could eventually turn into a position-coach job. That's the route current Eagles RBs coach Duce Staley followed.

Chargers OT William "Tra" Thomas has decided to retire rather than play out the 2010 season.

The 12-year veteran entered camp as the favorite to fill in for Marcus McNeill at left tackle, but he quickly fell behind Brandyn Dombrowksi and Tyronne Green after developing knee problems. It was questionable whether he would even make the final roster. The three-time Pro Bowler quickly declined once the Eagles cut the cord after the 2008 season.

Chargers OT Tra Thomas returned to practice Monday after missing two weeks following arthroscopic knee surgery.

He was not able to participate in team drills. Thomas has fallen behind Brandyn Dombrowski in a bid to start at left tackle with Marcus McNeill out, and it's possible he might not make the team.

Chargers OT Tra Thomas had his knee scoped Tuesday and will miss at least two weeks of practice.

Not a big loss. He played so badly this spring that the staff moved Brandyn Dombrowski ahead of him for camp. Thomas may not make the roster.

William "Tra" Thomas immediately began working with the Chargers' first-team offense after signing last week.

With Marcus McNeill holding out, left tackle is suddenly the biggest trouble spot on the Chargers' roster. Thomas struggled in four starts to open last year in Jacksonville before behind benched for rookie Eugene Monroe. This is a concern for fantasy leaguers hoping to draft Philip Rivers.

Chargers signed OT Tra Thomas to a one-year contract.

Thomas is entering his age-36 season and showed in four spot appearances last year that he has little left in the tank. Should LT Marcus McNeill hold out into the regular season, Brandyn Dombrowski would be a superior option.

The Chargers are expected to sign free agent T Williams "Tra" Thomas on Wednesday.

It looks like the Chargers are acquiring some insurance (or leverage) just in case unsigned restricted free agent Marcus McNeill follows through with his holdout threats. Thomas was a Pro Bowler while with the Eagles but declined quickly and was cut by the Jags in February. At age 35, he'd be a huge downgrade from McNeill.

Jaguars released OT William "Tra" Thomas, as expected.

The Jags released three players with a combined 33 years of experience Thursday. Thomas, a three-time Pro Bowler and mainstay at left tackle in Philly for 11 years, had little left in the tank by the time he got to Jacksonville. He spent most of the season as a part-time player behind rookies Eugene Monroe and Eben Britton. The 35-year-old wants to keep playing in 2010.

The Jaguars informed OT Tra Thomas that he will be released next week.

Thomas started three games for the Jaguars in 2009 and saw part time duty in a couple of others. He was inactive for the last seven. Thomas, 35, originally signed on with the Jaguars in hopes of starting, but the team drafted Eugene Monroe and Eben Britton in April to squash that. He plans to keep playing in 2010.

Jaguars declared OL Tra Thomas, WR Tiquan Underwood, DB Courtney Greene, LB Tank Daniels, OL Cecil Newton, OL Paul McQuistan, TE Zach Potter and DL Greg Peterson inactive for Week 16 against the Patriots.

No surprises. Mike Sims-Walker is active.

Tra Thomas started at LT in place of Eugene Monroe Sunday, though it's not expected to be a permanent change.

It was the fourth different offensive line lineup change in seven games. Coach Jack Del Rio indicated that Thomas' performance against the Titans in the first matchup was the reason for the switch. The line is in serious need of some continuity going forward.

Tra Thomas is a possibility for the Jaguars at right tackle if rookie Eugene Monroe wins the left tackle job.

The Jags still have much to decide up front. Uche Nwaneri is pushing Mo Williams for a starting guard spot, and Williams has seen time at center as insurance for Brad Meester. At least this year the Jags have the luxury of tough decisions. The line will be much improved, especially the depth.

Tra Thomas' training camp play "has literally eliminated the negative effects" of first-round pick Eugene Monroe's absence, according to's Vic Ketchman.

Thomas' poor performance in OTAs had the team considering Monroe as the immediate starter, but the veteran has reportedly been a "nightmare" for pass rushers in camp. Monroe has missed out on his chance to open the season as the starting left tackle.

The Jaguars' battle at left tackle between Tra Thomas and Eugene Monroe might mean Thomas moving over to right tackle if he loses.

Thomas is a proven pass protector and Monroe projects as elite in pass pro due to his athleticism and length. It could be good news for David Garrard, but would mean moving incumbent RT Tony Pashos out of the lineup. Pashos is a nasty run blocker, and having him on the bench could hurt Maurice Jones-Drew. Most likely, Pashos will keep his job and Thomas will be the Jags' "swing" tackle.
