Rams declared WR Chris Givens, QB Case Keenum, CB Trumaine Johnson, CB Brandon McGee, RB Chase Reynolds, OL Barrett Jones, and DT Alex Carrington inactive for Week 6 against the 49ers.
Givens has tumbled all the way to the bottom of the depth chart as a healthy scratch. He's behind Austin Pettis, Tavon Austin, and Stedman Bailey as the backups to Brian Quick and Kenny Britt. Givens is a one-trick pony as a deep-ball threat who doesn't cover kicks. He's no longer needed with Quick and Bailey taking leaps. Third-round rookie RB Tre Mason is also active for the first time. Chris Givens caught 2-of-3 targets for 94 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's preseason game.

The grabs were his first of the preseason. Givens shed a tackle on a simple crossing route and was off to the races for a 75-yard touchdown. Givens is no higher than No. 4 on the depth chart, but should continue to serve as a deep-ball specialist for the Rams this season.
Aug 24 - 1:07 AM

ESPN Rams reporter Nick Wagoner reports Chris Givens is steadily losing reps with the starters and continues to work with the second- and third-team offenses.

Givens broke out as a deep-ball specialist rookie in 2012 with a 42-698-3 line. He's still just 24, but it very well could end up being his ceiling. He's behind Kenny Britt, Brian Quick, Tavon Austin, and Stedman Bailey on the depth chart. Luckily for him, Bailey is suspended for the first four games of the season, leaving Givens and Austin Pettis fighting for snaps. Givens is off the redraft map.

Chris Givens said a nagging ankle injury bothered him for most of last season.

Givens played in all 16 games and appeared on 77.5 percent of the offensive snaps, but managed just 34 catches for 569 yards and zero touchdowns. Sam Bradford's ACL tear hurt, but Givens' inability to be much more than a straight-line speedster was not promising. He's clearly not a No. 1 receiver, regardless of the ankle tweak. The Rams need to bring in competition for Givens via the draft.
Apr 23 - 11:16 AM

Rams GM Les Snead said he doesn't believe the team needs a No. 1 receiver.

"The answer is really 'no' on that," Snead said. "I think our receivers right now, I truly believe as they progress and the oldest guy just finished his third year, we cannot have another receiver around here and we’re going to be a good football team." Chris Givens led the Rams with 569 yards receiving this past season but didn't score a single touchdown. The Rams haven't had a 700-yard receiver since Torry Holt in 2008. Brian Quick is shaping up as a bust. No matter what Snead says, we expect St. Louis to have its eyes on Clemson's Sammy Watkins and Texas A&M's Mike Evans in the first round of May's draft.

Chris Givens was held without a catch in St. Louis' Week 17 loss to Seattle.

He lost four yards on his lone offensive touch, a rushing attempt. Givens looked primed for a second-year breakout during an eye-catching preseason, but flopped when the real games began, and things only got worse when Sam Bradford tore his ACL, paving the way for Kellen Clemens at quarterback. Givens can run like the wind, but isn't a physical threat at the first and second levels and was obviously stretched as the Rams' No. 1 wide receiver this year. He actually caught fewer passes as a sophomore than Givens did as a rookie, finishing with a 34-569-0 line as a 16-game starter. Givens will be a decent bounce-back WR4/5 target in 2014 fantasy drafts.

Chris Givens caught two passes for 24 yards in St. Louis' Week 16 win over the Bucs.

This would be the same Chris Givens who was spotted talking trash to Darrelle Revis before the game. Of course, by Givens' recent standards, it was a monster afternoon. Givens won't be on the daily-league radar in Week 17 against the Seahawks.

Chris Givens caught one pass for 31 yards in Week 15 against the Saints.

Givens was targeted just twice. He caught his pass on a deep in route and nearly broke through the back end of the defense for a touchdown. Givens has yet to score in 2013 and is off the re-draft radar with popgun-armed Kellen Clemens running the show.

Chris Givens caught one pass for 21 yards in Week 14 against Arizona.

Givens was locked up in Patrick Peterson's coverage all afternoon and saw just two targets. Add that to playing with an inept Kellen Clemens as his quarterback, and Givens never had a chance. He's been a huge disappointment as a sophomore. Givens is barely a WR5. He hasn't scored this season.

Chris Givens caught two passes for 30 yards in Week 13 against the 49ers.

Givens led the team with his nine targets. He dropped one pass that could have gone for a long touchdown. Two San Francisco defensive backs fell down on the play. Overall, Kellen Clemens was inaccurate on a handful of throws. After 12 games, Givens is on pace for a 40-657-0 receiving line. All would be below his rookie-year marks. Givens is merely a WR5 in fantasy. He'll draw Patrick Peterson and the Cardinals next week.

Chris Givens was held without a catch on six targets in St. Louis' Week 12 win over the Bears.

Givens had one grab overturned by penalty, and another upheld as a no-catch on review. He was drawing looks deep, but just couldn't hook up with Kellen Clemens. The zero-catch effort was Givens' first of the season. Givens has some legitimate deep skills, but hasn't been able to translate them to WR4 status. That should remain the case going forward.

Chris Givens caught two passes for 54 yards in St. Louis' Week 10 win over the Colts.

Givens wasn't even the Rams' primary deep threat, with that honor going to rookie Tavon Austin. Givens' skill-set remains intriguing, but held below 60 yards in nine of 10 games this season, he's not a legitimate fantasy option in re-draft leagues with Kellen Clemens at quarterback.

Chris Givens caught four balls for 55 yards in the Rams' Week 9 loss to the Titans.

Givens hauled in a 25-yarder on St. Louis' final, desperation drive but was otherwise fairly quiet. A Mike Wallace-type player, Rams haven't been able to get him the football downfield this season. Givens would be a poor WR3 gamble against Vontae Davis and the Colts' stingy pass defense in Week 10.
Sun, Nov 3, 2013 04:12:00 PM

Chris Givens caught four passes for 59 yards in Week 8 against the Seahawks.

Givens was targeted five times and the receiving yards total was his second-highest output of the season. He's simply not burning defensive backs at the rate he was as a rookie last season. And with Kellen Clemens now under center, we wouldn't expect that to change anytime soon. Givens did his work on slant patterns Monday night. His upside has been sapped. Givens is a WR4 moving forward. A stingy Titans defense is his next test.
Tue, Oct 29, 2013 12:48:00 AM

Chris Givens caught one pass for 24 yards in St. Louis' Week 7 loss to the Panthers.

He also got checked out for a potential leg injury, but stayed in the game. Givens has now been held below 25 yards in three straight games, and surpassed two catches only twice on the season. With Sam Bradford (knee) staring at an extended absence, what little remained of Givens' upside is gone.
