Coach Jeff Fisher noted Chris Givens' versatility grew as his rookie season moved along.
Givens was initially a one-trick pony, using his 4.4 speed to run vertical routes. But by the end of the year, he was on his way to being a polished wideout. "He improved weekly," Fisher said. "We were able to do more and more with him as he got more familiar." Now that Danny Amendola and Brandon Gibson are both gone, Givens is penciled in as the Rams' No. 1 wideout. "I think he knows that this is his opportunity," Fisher said. Mar 21 - 12:18 PM

Rams second-year WR Chris Givens could be the primary box-score beneficiary if Danny Amendola leaves in free agency.

Givens amassed 38 of his 77 targets when Amendola was injured in 2012, and efficiently secured 23 of them for 338 yards and a touchdown. Mostly a streak-running deep threat as a rookie, Givens' route repertoire increased noticeably with Amendola out. It's something to file away for the 2013 fantasy season.

Chris Givens caught two passes for 54 yards in the Rams' Week 17 loss to the Seahawks.

Givens' second-quarter 37-yard catch-and-run reception directly set up the Rams' lone touchdown to Austin Pettis. The fourth-round rookie out of Wake Forest made major strides as the season went on. He was a non-factor early on, then turned into a situational deep threat, before he finished the season as an every-down wideout for the Rams. Givens ended up with 42 catches for a team-high 698 yards and three touchdowns. If he keeps working on his route-running, Givens could turn into a legit, serviceable receiver in the league. With Brandon Gibson and Danny Amendola scheduled for unrestricted free agency, Givens is a virtual lock to be a starter in 2013.

Chris Givens caught three passes for 38 yards in St. Louis' Week 16 win over the Bucs.

The Rams took the air out of the ball after building a big early lead, leaving just five targets for Givens on Sam Bradford's 27 pass attempts. The rookie deep threat has now been held to seven catches for 85 yards over his past three games after stinging the 49ers for 11 grabs in Week 13. If your league goes through Week 17, Givens won't be a viable WR3 against the Seahawks' dominant defense in Seattle next weekend.

Chris Givens caught just one pass for 22 yards in St. Louis' Week 15 loss to the Vikings.

Givens could have had a much bigger afternoon, but Sam Bradford overshot him on a would-be 39-yard touchdown in the second quarter. As it is, Givens' four targets were just seventh on the team. He's drawn only 14 looks over his past two contests after racking up 14 in Week 13 alone. The deep threat can't be trusted as a WR3 for Week 16, even against Tampa's abysmal pass defense.

Coming off an 11-catch performance against the 49ers, Chris Givens was held to three grabs for 25 yards in St. Louis' Week 14 win over the Bills.

Givens garnered 10 targets one week after drawing 14, but had trouble hooking up with an inaccurate Sam Bradford. The heavy attention was a silver lining for a rough afternoon, but Givens could find himself back to deep-threat duties with Danny Amendola (heel) having a good chance of returning for Week 15. Regardless of whether Amendola is back against the Vikings, Givens will be a high-risk, high-reward WR3.

Chris Givens caught 11 passes for 92 yards in St. Louis' Week 13 overtime win over the 49ers.

With Danny Amendola out with a heel injury, Givens went from deep threat to security blanket, drawing a season-high 14 targets. It was twice as many looks as any other Rams receiver, and twice as many as Givens had drawn in any of his first 10 games. With his route tree and role expanding, Givens is settling in as an intriguing WR3 for the fantasy playoffs.

Chris Givens caught five passes for 115 yards and a touchdown in St. Louis' Week 12 win over the Cardinals.

Givens made the play of the game in the third quarter, beating tight coverage from S Justin Bethel for a diving, 37-yard catch in the end zone. Givens consistently earned separation, and gained 18 or more yards on four of his five catches. His shortest grab went for 13 yards. Fully out of the doghouse following his Week 10 suspension, Givens is back on the WR3 radar with Danny Amendola slowed by a heel injury. Givens is coming on as one of the league's top deep-threats.

One week after being a healthy scratch, Chris Givens started St. Louis' Week 11 loss to the Jets, making four catches for 19 yards.

Today was the first time since Week 3 Givens was held without a 50-yard reception. He nearly popped a big play on a kick return, but had a touchdown called back by a dubious holding penalty. However, Givens was clearly operating as the Rams' No. 2 receiver ahead of Brandon Gibson, with his seven targets being second only to Danny Amendola's 11. He remains worth a bench spot as a WR5 in 12-14 team leagues.

Rams rookies Chris Givens and CB Janoris Jenkins are active for Week 11 against the Jets.

Givens will likely come off the bench behind Brandon Gibson, but should see plenty of snaps as the Rams' go-to deep threat. Jenkins was struggling before his one-week deactivation, however, and could find playing time harder to come by. Inactive for the Rams are QB Austin Davis, WR Steve Smith, RB Terrance Ganaway, FB Brit Miller, OL Chris Williams, DT Matt Conrath and S Darian Stewart. At this point, it will be surprising if Smith makes it through the season on the active roster.

Rams rookies Chris Givens and CB Janoris Jenkins will be active for Week 11, but coach Jeff Fisher declined comment on whether or not they'll start.

Both players are practicing in full this week. Givens shined as a deep threat during Danny Amendola's absence, but could find himself coming off the bench behind Brandon Gibson with Amendola back in the fold. However, considering Givens' rising effectiveness and increasingly larger role in the offense before his one-week ban, it's hard to believe he won't be in for a big chunk of snaps against the Jets. His uncertain role makes him a dubious WR3 for Week 11, however.

Rams head coach Jeff Fisher confirmed that WR Chris Givens and CB Janoris Jenkins will practice on Wednesday.

The two rookies were healthy scratches prior to Sunday's tie with the 49ers after they violated curfew. Both players are expected to play in Week 11 against the Jets. Givens' role is a bit unclear with the return of Danny Amendola. Fantasy owners should take a wait-and-see approach with Givens this week.

A league source tells ProFootballTalk.com that WR Chris Givens and CB Janoris Jenkins were deactivated Sunday because they violated curfew.

Coach Jeff Fisher took a hard line with his rookies. They didn't dress for the game and were forced to run the stairs and Candlestick Park as punishment. Regardless, we doubt a curfew violation is worth more than a one-game ban. Expect Givens and Jenkins to be back next week when the Rams host the Jets.

Rams WR Chris Givens and CB Janoris Jenkins are inactive for Week 10 against the 49ers.

The rookie duo has been scratched for violating team rules. Jenkins' play has been rocky of late, but Givens' deactivation comes as a major surprise for a team with so few pass-catching threats, even considering the return of Danny Amendola. It's possible coach Jeff Fisher will never expound on the reasons for his decision, but it's hard to believe Givens will be out again in Week 11. Hopefully we'll get an update on Monday. Bradley Fletcher is starting in Jenkins' absence.
Sun, Nov 11, 2012 02:58:00 PM

Coach Jeff Fisher would like to "continue to get" WR Chris Givens more involved in the Rams offense.

"We're thinking that the big plays should create opportunities for him underneath as well," said Fisher. We came away with the same notion after watching Givens' impressive run-after-catch ability in Week 7. Givens' toe injury doesn't appear to be a concern coming out of the Week 9 bye. Fantasy owners should be in a wait-and-see mode to see how Danny Amendola's return affects Givens' snaps and targets the next few weeks.
