Bengals WLB Vontaze Burfict (concussion) is out for Week 14 against the Bears.

Starting CBs Adam Jones (groin) and Dre Kirkpatrick (concussion) are also out, along with starting S Shawn Williams (hamstring), who has missed the past couple games. The Bengals were severely banged up last Monday night against the Steelers. It's an upgrade for Jordan Howard's road matchup.
Dec 8 - 12:11 PM

Bengals WLB Vontaze Burfict was placed on a backboard and carted to the locker room with a head injury Week 13 against the Steelers.

Burfict is the second linebacker to be backboarded and carted away tonight after Steelers ILB Ryan Shazier experienced the same in the first quarter. Burfict was injured on a peel-back block by JuJu Smith-Schuster, and the rookie receiver was flagged for an illegal block and personal foul for taunting Burfict by standing over him after the hit. Burfict moved his arms after the hit.
Dec 4 - 11:34 PM

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports Bengals WLB Vontaze Burfict will not be suspended for making contact with an official Week 10.

The ejection was weak to say the least, so it is good to see the league show restraint despite Burfict's history. He will be back in the lineup this Sunday against the Broncos.
Nov 13 - 9:43 AM

Bengals WLB Vontaze Burfict's was ejected from Week 10 against the Titans.

Burfict was ejected for making contact with an official. He continues to show a lack of maturity after being suspended multiple times in his career.
Nov 12 - 2:19 PM

Bengals WLB Vontaze Burfict's three-game suspension is over.

Burfict should rejoin the team early this week and be active for the Bengals' Week 4 matchup against the Browns. With Burfict back, Vinny Rey or Nick Vigil will return to the bench.
Sep 25 - 11:08 AM

Bengals signed WLB Vontaze Burfict to a three-year, $38.68 million extension through 2020.

That's one year for every game the cheap shot artist is suspended to begin the season. Undrafted in 2012 because of character concerns after a star career at Arizona State, Burfict proved to be an instant difference-maker. He stuffs the stat-sheet with tackles, forced turnovers and the occasional sack. He routinely earns high grades from Pro Football Focus. Burfict does have a long and concerning injury history, including concussion issues. He turns 27 later this month.
Sep 7 - 5:29 PM

ESPN's Josina Anderson reports the Bengals are working on an extension with contract-year WLB Vontaze Burfict.

Despite Burfict's penchant for cheap shots — he's currently serving a three-game suspension for an egregious preseason hit on Chiefs FB Anthony Sherman — the 26 year old remains a tackling machine and a playmaker. Burfict earned PFF's highest grade among 4-3 outside linebackers in 2016.
Sep 7 - 4:45 PM

Bengals WLB Vontaze Burfict's suspension has been reduced to three games.

He'll sit out against the Ravens, Texans, and Packers. The NFL has been able to keep its player suspensions out of court by handing down lengthy bans, then reducing them on appeal. It's a tact they may explore with Ezekiel Elliott, too. Burfict is now eligible to return in Week 4. On the field in preseason games, Burfict has looked tremendous after shedding 20 pounds in the offseason.
Aug 30 - 6:10 PM

Bengals WLB Vontaze Burfict is facing a five-game suspension for an illegal hit on Chiefs FB Anthony Sherman earlier this preseason.

Burfict is appealing, but his chances of beating the suspension seem low considering his history of illegal hits. That history also explains why Burfict is facing a lengthy suspension rather than a one- or two-game ban. ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Burfict's appeal hearing will take place next week. Burfict has looked outstanding in preseason games after reporting to camp in the best shape of his life. He is the best player on a Bengals defense that will also be without top CB Adam Jones in Week 1 due to a one-game suspension.
Aug 27 - 11:09 PM

Bengals DC Paul Guenther said WLB Vontaze Burfict reported to camp in "tremendous shape."

Burfict has been plagued by injury each of the past three years, and was limited in training camp the past two summers. He's finally healthy, and has dropped a considerable amount of weight. Guenther expects him to play in the 240s instead of his usual 260s. Still somehow only 27 (in September), Burfict maintains play-making upside.

Jul 27 - 1:56 PM

According to ESPN Bengals reporter Katherine Terrell, WLB Vontaze Burfict "looks like he's dropped a lot of weight" over the offseason.

We're taking it as a good thing. Burfict looked a bit chunky last season as he dealt with numerous knee, foot, and brain injuries early and late in the year. He still had a strong season in Pro Football Focus' metrics, grading out as their No. 3-ranked 4-3 outside linebacker out of 31 qualifiers. When on the top of his game, Burfict is an elite talent at his position. He's still just 26 years old.
May 26 - 10:25 AM

Bengals WLB Vontaze Burfict (concussion) will not play Week 17 against the Ravens.

Burfict is still in the concussion protocol after being allowed to play through what looked like a clear head injury against the Steelers in Week 15. There is no reason to rush him back for the meaningless season finale. Burfict should be ready to go for the offseason program.

Bengals WLB Vontaze Burfict (concussion) has been ruled out for Week 16 against the Texans.

Burfict is arguably the Bengals' best or second-best defender behind DT Geno Atkins. It's a big loss and provides a boost to the matchups for Lamar Miller (ankle), should he play, and TEs C.J. Fiedorowicz and Ryan Griffin.

Bengals WLB Vontaze Burfict is in the league's concussion protocol.

He didn't practice Wednesday. Burfict was checked for a concussion in the first half of last week's game against the Steelers but came back out and played the second half. He felt the symptoms after the contest.
