Suspended Bengals WLB Vontaze Burfict missed the start of training camp with a foot injury.

Burfict was previously listed with a knee injury. He also reported to camp overweight, but should be close to playing shape after the Bengals removed him from active/NFI. Burfict is expected to sit out the entire preseason, but will be ready for a full workload when he returns from suspension.
Aug 6 - 2:35 PM

Bengals activated suspended WLB Vontaze Burfict off active/PUP.

The Bengals had listed him with a knee injury. Burfict is suspended for the first three games of the season due to repeated violations of the league's on-field player safety policy. The Bengals have big run defense splits sans Burfict, which is something to file away for in-season fantasy matchup purposes.
Aug 4 - 12:54 PM

Bengals placed WLB Vontaze Burfict (knee) on the active/NFI list.

The Bengals aren’t taking any chances with Burfict after multiple setbacks the last two years. He can be activated at any time, but is expected to be held out of preseason games. Burfict’s health will be a non-issue when he returns from suspension in Week 4.
Jul 30 - 6:02 PM

The Bengals will hold suspended WLB Vontaze Burfict out of the preseason.

It's not as punishment, but to keep Burfict healthy. Burfict has suffered a number of serious injuries, but managed to remain highly effective. Banned for three games for multiple violations of the league's policy on player safety, Burfict will be back for Week 4. He turns 26 in September.
Jul 26 - 2:59 PM

Bengals WLB Vontaze Burfict (suspended) admitted he needs to change the way he plays.

"I play hard. Sometimes it gets me in trouble," Burfict said. "My style of play is aggressive, and [the game has] changed, and I have to change with it, and that play right there, I think if I wasn't number 55, I wouldn't have got flagged." Burfict is referring to the vicious hit he laid on a defenseless Antonio Brown at the end of Cincinnati's Wild Card loss. The hit would have drawn a flag regardless of who delivered it, but Burfict's history contributed to the league suspending him three games following the incident. It is great Burfict recognizes he needs to change, but it will take more than words to repair his reputation.

Feb 23 - 8:45 AM

Bengals WLB Vontaze Burfict's three-game suspension for violating the league's policy on player safety has been upheld.

Burfict's ban was a candidate for reduction because it was so harsh, but the NFL has (rightfully) decided the punishment still fits the crime. Burfict was out of control late in the season, boiling over in a shameful display in the Wild Card round. He earned his ban the hard way. Absent a Bengals bye, he'll return in Week 4.
Feb 11 - 1:35 PM

ESPN's James Walker and Coley Harvey report Bengals WLB Vontaze Burfict will meet with Roger Goodell within the next week to discuss his three-game suspension.

Burfict earned the well-deserved ban for multiple questionable hits in the Wild Card loss to the Steelers, including a personal foul against Antonio Brown which cost the Bengals the game. Burfict will likely angle for a reduction to the suspension. Considering his reckless history, a reduction seems unlikely.
Feb 11 - 12:26 PM

NFL suspended Bengals WLB Vontaze Burfict three games for repeated violations of player-safety rules.

Well deserved. Burfict played with reckless abandon in Saturday's Wild Card game against the Steelers, first sacking Ben Roethlisberger and then driving his knee into Big Ben's injured shoulder after the play before later leveling Antonio Brown across the middle on the final drive in the fourth quarter on a pass Brown had no chance to catch. Brown was concussed on the play and is in doubt for Week 19. Burfict has been playing with no regard for anyone but himself since coming into the league as an UDFA out of Arizona State.
Jan 11 - 7:47 PM

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Bengals WLB Vontaze Burfict is facing a suspension for his hit on Antonio Brown late in Saturday's Wild Card loss to the Steelers.

Burfict absolutely leveled Brown on a pass he had no chance of catching. The personal foul flag that came after it (along with another 15-yard penalty by Pacman Jones) set up Chris Boswell's game-winning field goal with 14 seconds left. It looked like Burfict was going to be the hero after intercepting a pass from Landry Jones but his cheap shot on Brown essentially ended the Bengals' season. Burfict deserves to be suspended and won't have much of a case if he decides to appeal.
Jan 10 - 8:56 AM

WLB Vontaze Burfict exited the Bengals' Week 12 game against the Rams with an ankle injury and is questionable to return.

With only a few minutes left and Cincinnati up by three touchdowns, it's safe to assume Burfict is done for the day. He recorded seven tackles before leaving in the fourth quarter.

WLB Vontaze Burfict exited the Bengals' Week 9 game against the Browns with a left knee injury and is questionable to return.

It's the same knee he had surgery on last offseason. Burfict logged two tackles before leaving early in the second quarter.

Bengals WLB Vontaze Burfict (knee) is active for Week 8 against the Steelers.

Burfict will probably be on some sort of snap count, but his return is a big boost for the undefeated Bengals. Inactive for the Bengals are WR Mario Alford, CB Chris Lewis-Harris, LB P.J. Dawson, TE C.J. Uzomah, DL Marcus Hardison, DT Brandon Thompson and DL Margus Hunt.

Bengals activated WLB Vontaze Burfict (knee) off the PUP.

Burfict was cleared to return to practice this week. The move indicates Burfict will play against the Steelers, but his snaps should be limited just 10 months removed from microfracture surgery. Greg Little was waived in a corresponding move.

Bengals WLB Vontaze Burfict (knee, PUP) is expected to be a game-time decision Week 8 against the Steelers.

Burfict underwent microfracture surgery about 10 months ago and opened the season on reserve/PUP. He returned to practice this week. If he plays Sunday, it will be a very limited role. A.J. Hawk would still get the majority of snaps ahead of Burfict. He should be starting within a couple weeks.
