Bengals signed WLB Vontaze Burfict to a new four-year, $20 million contract through 2017.
Burfict was entering the final year of his three-year rookie deal, but was under team control through 2015. He gets a total of $7.6 million this season and is now one of the richest 4-3 outside 'backers in the league at $5 million annually. An undrafted gem out of Arizona State in 2012, Burfict has become a three-down difference maker for the Bengals. He's above-average, and near elite, both against the run and in coverage. Burfict is a shoo-in LB1 in IDP formats. Aug 20 - 5:19 PM

ESPN's Adam Caplan reports the Bengals have reached an "impasse" in long-term talks with WLB Vontaze Burfict.

Burfict will be a restricted free agent next offseason. The Bengals are hoping to get him locked up in a cost-effective manner after striking gold on the 2012 undrafted free agent market. If a deal can't be reached, the first-round RFA tender would cost the Bengals approximately $3.3 million in 2015.

CBS Sports' Joel Corry believes Bengals WLB Vontaze Burfict could command $9 million annually on the open market.

Burfict is entering the final year of his rookie deal but is slated for restricted free agency next spring where the Bengals could slap him with a first-round tender of about $3.3 million. The two sides have dabbled in extension talks, but there's no rush to get a deal done. The former UDFA has been a star on Cincinnati's defense as an every-down linebacker. He's due a mere $570,000 in 2014.

FOX Sports' Mike Garafolo reports the Bengals are "making progress" in long-term talks with WLB Vontaze Burfict.

The sides met in Cincinnati this week. One of the better undrafted free agent finds of the 21st century, Burfict is technically going into the final year of his deal, but would remain under Bengals control as a restricted free agent in 2015. He's currently set to make just $570,000 this season.
May 15 - 10:59 PM

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports the Bengals and WLB Vontaze Burfict have opened long-term contract negotiations.

Burfict is entering the final year of his deal but is under team control for the next two seasons. The former undrafted free agent is scheduled to make just $570,000 in 2014. Burfict led the NFL with 171 tackles last season, one year after tallying 124 stops as a rookie. He can do it all. Burfict plays sideline-to-sideline, can rush the passer, cover tight ends, and stop the run.
Apr 22 - 10:04 AM

ESPN Bengals reporter Coley Harvey reports the team is expected to try and sign WLB Vontaze Burfict to a long-term contract extension this offseason.

Burfict, 23, is entering the final year of his three-year rookie deal and is scheduled to become a restricted free agent next spring. There's really no need for the Bengals to rush things. Burfict is coming off a 2013 season that saw him lead the league with 171 tackles and record three sacks, six pass breakups, and an interception. Burfict credits new Bengals DC Paul Guenther for his success.

Burfict piled up six tackles and two sacks during Sunday's blowout of the Vikings before sustaining his concussion. Vontaze Burfict racked up 13 tackles despite playing on a sprained ankle in Sunday's win at San Diego.

Burfict had to convince coaches to let him play after looking gimpy in the warmup. "The injury was bad, but I think he's just got special powers and he used them all today," coach Marvin Lewis said. Burfict continues to absolutely dominate from the weak side as he's up to 131 tackles through 12 games.

Bengals WLB Vontaze Burfict (ankle) is listed as questionable for Week 13.

Per beat writer Joe Reedy, Burfict's status is "cloudy" for Sunday's trip to Qualcomm Stadium. The second-year weak-side 'backer suffered the injury in practice this week. Pro Football Focus has graded Burfict as the No. 3 4-3 OLB in the league, behind only Denver's Von Miller and Tampa's Lavonte David.

Bengals WLB Vontaze Burfict (thigh) was a full participant in practice Saturday for a second straight day and is listed as probable on the Week 2 injury report.

Burfict was limited Thursday with a thigh injury, but it was never a major concern. He'll start opposite Rey Maualuga on Monday night against the Steelers.

Bengals.com considers Vontaze Burfict and Emmanuel Lamur the leading candidates to take the bulk of the linebacker snaps in 2013.

Burfict played weak-side 'backer in 2012 as an undrafted rookie, and went on to lead the team in tackles. He'll shift to the middle with free agent Rey Maualuga likely gone, and Lamur will step in on the weak side. Lamur is an athletic player out of Kansas State who was promoted from the practice squad in Week 9.

Undrafted rookie WLB Vontaze Burfict finished the regular season as the Bengals' leading tackler.

After being credited with 18 tackles in the regular-season finale, Burfict will finish with 127. The coaches will end up with a figure closer to 170. It's an impressive tally for a player who didn't appear for a single snap in the season opener and changed positions a couple of weeks later.

Rookie WLB Vontaze Burfict had 15 tackles in the Bengals' Week 7 loss to the Steelers.

It looks like the Bengals got themselves a steal. Despite first-round talent, Burfict went undrafted in April due to a bad Combine and off-field concerns. He's proceeded to start five games and has led the team in tackles in three of those games. Over the last four weeks, "Tez" has 36 tackles, one sack and two pass breakups out of the WILL linebacker spot.

Vontaze Burfict is expected to start at WLB on Sunday for the Bengals.

It was reported that Burfict would get the start last week in place of Thomas Howard, but the Bengals opened up in the nickel with Vincent Rey on the field alongside Rey Maualuga. Burfict played 22 snaps in the base package, but came off the field in passing situations. This is the first time Burfict has played OLB, and he's still adjusting to the different responsibilities. It's likely we won't see him getting nickel snaps this weekend.
