Bengals placed WLB Vontaze Burfict (knee) on the active/PUP list.
It's quite likely Burfict will remain on the PUP list through Week 1, which means he'll miss the first six games of the season. Recovering from microfracture surgery and neck issues, it's possible Burfict ends up missing the entire season. ESPN Bengals reporter Coley Harvey doesn't expect WLB Vontaze Burfict (knee) to be ready for Week 1.

Burfict could only work on the side at OTAs. He’s not expected to be cleared for training camp. All signs continue to point to Burfict opening the season on reserve/PUP. Coming off microfracture, Burfict is facing an uphill battle to regain pre-injury form.

Coach Marvin Lewis admitted WLB Vontaze Burfict (knee) has a "long ways to go" in his rehab.

"Vontaze will be in rehab all the way through the summer," Lewis said. Burfict walked with a "hobble" and "generally looked uncomfortable" after running off to the side of Tuesday's practice. Signs continue to point to him landing on reserve/PUP to start the season. A.J. Hawk ran with the starters to begin OTAs.

Per Geoff Hobson of the Bengals' official website, it's a "tight call" whether WLB Vontaze Burfict (knee) will be ready Week 1.

Our last update on Burfict came three months ago when the Bengals said they expect Burfict to be ready for the start of training camp. That's extremely optimistic with Burfict coming off microfracture surgery. Realistically, Burfict is about 50-50 to open the season on reserve/PUP. The Bengals have veterans Vincent Rey and A.J. Hawk as insurance along with third-round LB Paul Dawson.

The Bengals are expecting WLB Vontaze Burfict (knee surgeries) to be ready for the start of training camp.

Burfict underwent two surgeries on his left knee last year, including microfracture surgery immediately after the season. Given the tricky nature of his operation, the Bengals would be wise to add depth at linebacker. Dehner believes Cincinnati is likely to address the position in free agency.

Bengals WLB Vontaze Burfict recently underwent microfracture surgery on his left knee.

Microfracture surgery is one of the most serious procedures an athlete can undergo, as it involves drilling tiny fractures into the bone in an effort to develop new cartilage. This knee can now be considered a chronic concern for Burfict, who underwent surgery on the same joint in late October and played in just five games all year. For what it's worth, Burfict's surgeon says it's still very possible his patient will be ready for 2015 training camp. Linebacker has become a big need area in Cincinnati with Burfict's health uncertain, and MLB Rey Maualuga and SLB Emmanuel Lamur's contracts both expiring.

Bengals.com's Geoff Hobson passes along "some concern" that WLB Vontaze Burfict (knee surgery) might open 2015 on the reserve/PUP list.

At the Senior Bowl, coach Marvin Lewis insisted "the plan" is still for Burfict to return by Week 1. "That’s the plan," Lewis said. "You can’t be rushed. It has to heal. It has to get right." Burfict's knee is clearly problematic and seems like a concern inside the Bengals' organization.

Bengals DC Paul Guenther said Monday he's heard WLB Vontaze Burfict (knee surgery) will be "back and fine next year."

If so, it's great news for Cincinnati's defense. After signing a new four-year, $20 million deal last August, Burfict battled concussion, neck, and knee injuries throughout 2014. His playmaking ability was sorely missed as the Bengals struggled to defend the run. Burfict is still only 24 years old.

Bengals WLB Vontaze Burfict (injured reserve) may need additional knee surgery.

Burfict had his knee scoped in October. He was initially expected to miss a couple weeks, but got sent to season-ending I.R. on Tuesday. Burfict is still walking with a noticeable limp and is deciding on whether to have more surgery or continue with rehab. Coach Marvin Lewis wouldn't commit to Burfict being ready for the start of next season. It's been a rough year for Burfict injury-wise.

Bengals placed WLB Vontaze Burfict (knee surgery) on injured reserve, ending his season.

The move ends an injury-plagued and ineffective season for the third-year pro. Burfict was slowed by neck issues and a concussion before undergoing a supposedly minor knee operation in late October. Burfict went under the knife 41 days ago, and obviously wasn't close to a return. He'll close the book on 2014 with just 223 snaps across five appearances. A playmaking difference maker both in coverage and as a run stopper when healthy, Burfict should bounce back in 2015. He's only 24.

Bengals WLB Vontaze Burfict (knee) has been ruled out for Week 14.

Burfict's knee "scope" was clearly more serious than the team let on.

Bengals WLB Vontaze Burfict (knee) is inactive for Sunday's Week 13 game at Tampa.

Burfict remains week-to-week after not practicing all week. The oft-injured playmaker is not recovering from his scope as quickly as the Bengals had hoped. The rest of their inactives: DE Margus Hunt, RB Rex Burkhead, CB Chris Lewis-Harris, T Tanner Hawkinson, WR Greg Little and T Jamon Meredith.

Bengals WLB Vontaze Burfict (knee) missed practice all week.

He won't play at Tampa. Coach Marvin Lewis said after Friday's practice that Burfict is "progressing," but he said the same thing on Friday last week.

Bengals coach Marvin Lewis believes WLB Vontaze Burfict (knee scope) is "progressing" toward a return.

Naturally, Lewis didn't disclose when Burfict might actually suit up. Sunday's tilt with the Texans will mark the fourth straight game he's missed. Going by his timetable, there's a chance Burfict will be ready for Week 13, but that should not be taken for granted.

Bengals WLB Vontaze Burfict had his left knee scoped on Wednesday and is expected to miss at least two games.

That's extremely optimistic, as most players need about four weeks to recover from a scope. Burfict can't stay off the trainer's table this season. He's missed time with a couple concussions, a neck injury, and now this. With MLB Rey Maualuga (hamstring) also on the shelf, Emmanuel Lamur and Vincent Rey will be the Bengals' top two linebackers. Burfict has played just 223 snaps this season.
