Packers DE Jerel Worthy (torn ACL) is vowing to play "at some point" in 2013.
Worthy tore his left ACL in Week 17. The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel gave him "long odds" of playing this season in a January article. The 2012 second-round pick notched 2.5 sacks in 443 snaps as a rookie. He'll almost certainly begin 2013 on the reserve/PUP list. May 21 - 4:01 PM

The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel is giving Packers 2012 second-round pick Jerel Worthy (ACL surgery) "long odds" of playing football in 2013.

Worthy tore his left ACL on December 30 and underwent surgery on January 15. He'll likely open the 2013 season on the PUP list, costing Worthy at least the first six games. Showing promise as a rookie, the Michigan State alum notched 2.5 sacks and a forced fumble while playing 443 snaps as a rotational end.

Packers DE Jerel Worthy underwent surgery for a torn ACL last week.

So much for that initial bone bruise diagnosis. Worthy visited Dr. James Andrews in Florida on Tuesday and underwent the reconstruction. Green Bay's 2012 second-round pick will now be up against the clock to be ready for Week 1, and will most likely start the season on the PUP list. Worthy produced just 2.5 sacks in an all-around underwhelming rookie year.

Updating a previous item, Packers DE Jerel Worthy's season-ending knee injury did indeed require surgery on Tuesday.

Worthy was under the impression that the injury was just a deep bruise which would not require a procedure. It's obviously a more serious injury. The 51st pick in the 2012 draft is expected to miss the entire offseason following Tuesday's procedure.

Packers DE Jerel Worthy's season-ending knee injury wasn't as serious as initially feared and is not expected to require surgery.

"From what I know, they said it was like a severe knee bruise," said Worthy. "Just something that would have really affected me if I would have went out there and played over the last few weeks." Worthy does not believe the injury will cause him to miss any significant portion of the team's offseason workouts.

Packers DE Jerel Worthy (knee) has been ruled out for the postseason.

The Pack have yet to reveal the full extent of Worthy's injury, but he needed the assistance of crutches and a "full leg brace" to depart the locker room following Sunday's loss. At the very least, he's dealing with a significant strain. A second-round pick in last April's draft, Worthy notched 14 tackles and 2.5 sacks in 14 games as a rotational lineman, but graded out as one of the league's worst 3-4 ends in Pro Football Focus' ratings.
Jan 2 - 1:52 PM

Packers DE Jerel Worthy needed crutches and a full leg brace to get out of the locker room after suffering a knee injury in the regular-season finale.

Coach Mike McCarthy expressed concern over the injury, acknowledging that it "didn't look good." The Packers will have a better idea on the severity after the tests come back, but this has the appearance of a multi-week injury for the rotational end.

Packers DE Jerel Worthy was carted off the field with an apparent knee injury late in Sunday's game at Minnesota.

It has the look of a serious injury, so Worthy could be lost for the playoffs. The 51st pick in the 2012 draft, Worthy has been a rotational end specializing in nickel packages.

Packers rookie DE Jerel Worthy (concussion) has been ruled out for Week 9 against the Cardinals.

Worthy suffered the concussion in last week's win over the Jaguars. The second-round pick has been a mainstay on the Green Bay defensive line this season and has played 69 more snaps than any other Packers lineman. B.J. Raji and Mike Neal are listed as probable with ankle ailments.

Packers rookie DE Jerel Worthy left Sunday's game against the Jaguars with a concussion.

Worthy was injured on the opening kickoff of the second half and was then taken to the locker room for further testing. With two sacks through eight games, the second-rounder is a key reserve on the Packers' defensive line.

Packers second-round DE Jerel Worthy said he was "rotating with the ones a lot" during offseason workouts.

The Packers are counting on Worthy and first-round OLB Nick Perry to immediately help a defense that allowed the most yards in the NFL last season. Worthy, who projects as a solid inside rusher out of the 3-4, is expected to battle with C.J. Wilson for the right defensive end spot. "The coaches say they have a lot of plans to put me in with the starting defense," he said.

Packers signed No. 51 overall pick DE Jerel Worthy to a four-year contract.

With an explosive first step and up-field pass rushing skills, Worthy tallied 27.5 tackles for a loss and 12 sacks as a 38-game starter at Michigan State. He's expected to compete for the starting right defensive end job that was a trouble spot all last season following Cullen Jenkins' departure.

Packers second-round DE Jerel Worthy admits he took plays off in college.

"There's nobody in the NFL game today or college or all the way down to pee-wee who plays every play full speed, full-go without getting tired," he said. "It's impossible. All I can say is I'm going to come in and try to continue to work to be a lot more consistent." The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel believes Worthy will get "every chance" to establish himself as the Packers' starting right end.

Packers traded up with the Eagles to select Michigan State DT Jerel Worthy with the No. 51 overall pick in the 2012 draft.

The Eagles will receive picks Nos. 59 and 129 in return. NFL Network's Mike Mayock had a first-round grade on Worthy, but there's a widespread concern that he plays "lazy." While Worthy fills a need in Green Bay with nice size (6'3/310) and first-step explosion, he too often lost one-on-one battles at the line of scrimmage and adds little as a pass rusher. He's likely ticketed for right end opposite Ryan Pickett in Dom Capers defense.

Michigan St. DT Jerel Worthy recorded 28 bench press reps during Wednesday's Pro Day.

This is a solid number for the 6'2/308 pound penetrating defensive linemen with 33" arms, who chose not to bench at the Combine. NFL Network's Mike Mayock has been quoted as saying he doesn't believe Worthy will last past picks "20-25". Worthy's tape is great when able to time the snap count and shoot a gap but too often he is unable to hold an anchor or beat single blocks. We feel a first-round selection would be a sizable reach.
