Saints WR Nick Toon failed to secure either of his targets in Saturday night's preseason clash with the Colts.
He has four catches for 17 yards this preseason. Toon is the direct backup to Marques Colston -- something to file away for forward thinkers -- but he has no re-draft value. The 25-year-old's Dynasty appeal is minimal at best. Aug 23 - 10:56 PM

The Times-Picayune has named Nick Toon one of the most impressive players at Saints camp so far.

Toon has "consistently come up with catches on nearly every pass pattern." It sounds like rapid improvement from last season, when he played on just 205 snaps and was active for just eight games, looking overmatched when asked to fill in for Lance Moore.

The Times-Picayune's Katherine Terrell believes WR Nick Toon has the "edge" in the battle for the Saints' fourth receiver job.

Terrell is the second Saints reporter to single out Toon in the last month. ESPN's Mike Triplett recently said Toon could see "significant" snaps this season. Marques Colston, Kenny Stills and rookie Brandin Cooks are locked in as the top-three receivers. Toon appears to be in the driver's seat for the No. 4. He's trying to hold off Joe Morgan and Robert Meachem, among others.

ESPN Saints reporter Mike Triplett believes WR Nick Toon has a chance at "significant" playing time this season.

Triplett admits Toon could be cut if he struggles in the preseason, but sees a "much better chance" he cracks the Saints' top-four wide receivers. Toon only saw 12 targets in 205 snaps last season, and was primarily used as a blocker. He can be safely ignored in fantasy leagues

ESPN's Mike Triplett believes the Saints are still high on Nick Toon’s potential.

Toon looked overmatched when filling in for Lance Moore last year and was active for just eight games. He should open training camp as the No. 4 wideout depending on what the Saints do in the draft. If Toon can put together a strong preseason, Joe Morgan and Robert Meachem will be competing for one roster spot.

Saints declared WR Nick Toon, TE Josh Hill, QB Ryan Griffin, S Rafael Bush, DB Trevin Wade, LB Keyunta Dawson, and DL Tyrunn Walker inactive for Week 15 against the Rams.

The Saints are relatively healthy. Hill, the No. 3 tight end, has a hamstring injury. Special teams ace Bush is battling an ankle issue.

Saints declared WR Nick Toon, FS Rafael Bush, QB Ryan Griffin, CB Trevin Wade, LB Keyunta Dawson, OT Terron Armstead, and DE Glenn Foster inactive for Week 14 against the Panthers.

The Saints don't have any major injuries heading into Week 14. Toon has been a healthy inactive the last two games. Bush remains week to week with an ankle injury.

Nick Toon had no catches on four targets in Sunday's Week 9 loss to the Jets.

Subbing for an inactive Marques Colston (knee), Toon led all Saints wideouts with 55 snaps and 43 routes run. He also led them with ineffective play. Toon had a brutal drop on a perfectly thrown deep ball early on and then had a pass clang off his hands for an interception later. From there, Drew Brees appeared hesitant to throw the second-year man the ball.

Nick Toon caught his first career pass for 18 yards in the Saints' Week 4 win over the Dolphins on Monday night.

The 2012 fourth-round pick out of Wisconsin was appearing in just his second game. Toon was seeing snaps because Lance Moore (wrist) was inactive.

Saints declared WR Nick Toon inactive for Sunday's Week 2 game against the Bucs.

Toon is a healthy scratch. DT Brodrick Bunkley (calf) is inactive, upgrading the matchup slightly for Doug Martin. The rest of the Saints inactives: RB Khiry Robinson, S Isa Abdul-Quddus, T Terron Armstead, DE Tyrunn Walker and DE Glenn Foster. Robert Meachem is active, but he'll play behind Kenny Stills.

Nick Toon caught one pass for 11 yards in Sunday's third preseason game against the Texans.

Toon got some run with Drew Brees and the first-team offense, but drew only two targets. Toon watched as Kenny Stills put the finishing touches on his claiming on No. 3 receiver duties with a 2/54/1 afternoon. Toon will enter Thursday's preseason finale with six catches for 133 yards. Toon is locked in as the Saints' No. 4 receiver, but it's not a position that will provide consistent fantasy value. He's off the redraft-league radar.

Saints WR Nick Toon caught four passes for 66 yards in Friday's preseason opener against the Chiefs.

Rookie Kenny Stills is in the driver's seat for No. 3 wideout duties following Joe Morgan's ACL tear, but Toon is making a case for playing time. He's also Marques Colston's top backup. Toon certainly has a roster spot sewn up.

According to the New Orleans Times-Picayune, second-year WR Nick Toon "continues (to) standout" in Saints camp.

A 2012 fourth-rounder, Toon missed his entire rookie season with a foot injury. He's fighting for a spot in the slot behind starter Marques Colston. It's too soon to forecast Toon's fantasy value, but any Saints receiver is worth keeping an eye on.

Saints second-year WR Nick Toon has been the biggest beneficiary in terms of camp reps from Marques Colston's (foot) absence.

The Saints are easing Colston into camp, and it appears Toon is being utilized as his primary backup at slot receiver. The outside wideouts are Lance Moore and Joe Morgan. Toon is in the hunt for No. 4 receiver duties, trying to hold off Kenny Stills, Andy Tanner, and Saalim Hakim. Still, it's notable that he's Colston's direct backup, in case Colston misses time during the season.

The Saints have "high hopes" for 2012 fourth-rounder WR Nick Toon.

Toon is 100 percent after missing his entire rookie year with a foot injury. The same is true of fellow 2012 picks OT Marcel Jones (knee surgery) and OG Andrew Tiller (triceps). Toon has undergone two left foot operations since his senior year at Wisconsin, but insists he's ready to go. A crisp route runner with sure hands, Toon will compete for the Saints' fourth receiver spot.
