Coach Sean Payton said he thinks Nick Toon's snaps will go "way up" this season.
Toon appeared in just eight games last season, averaging 30.1 snaps per day in those. Now Kenny Stills, Jimmy Graham and Robert Meachem are all gone and Toon is penciled in as the primary "Z," a role that will get him on the field in all three-wide sets alongside focal point Brandin Cooks and slot man Marques Colston. Toon has the tools to excel with this opportunity, making Kenny Stills' 32-641-5 line from 2013 a real possibility. Jul 7 - 12:59 PM

ESPN Saints reporter Mike Triplett considers fourth-year WR Nick Toon the "strong frontrunner" to serve as New Orleans' No. 3 receiver this year.

Seantavius Jones and Brandon Coleman have drawn more OTA headlines, but Toon is in the driver's seat to work into three-receiver packages behind Brandin Cooks and Marques Colston. 26-year-old Toon had a quiet first three seasons in the league, but came on down the stretch in 2014 and ran 4.43-4.54 at 6-foot-2, 215 coming out of Wisconsin. He's a deep sleeper to monitor.

ESPN Saints reporter Mike Triplett says "in a best-case scenario" Nick Toon could approach Kenny Stills' 2013 numbers.

Stills posted 32 catches for 641 yards and five touchdowns while playing in all 16 games that year. It's a reminder that although Toon is favored to win the No. 3 wideout job, it's a low-volume role in the Saints' scheme. That was the case even before they shifted to the ball-control mentality Sean Payton is installing this offseason.

The Saints did not select any wide receivers in the 2015 NFL draft.

It's a bit of a surprise given only Marques Colston and Brandin Cooks are established at the wideout spot for Drew Brees. It's a vote of confidence for Nick Toon, Joe Morgan, Seantavius Jones and Brandon Coleman. If one can clearly rise to the top during the offseason program and training camp, he'll get on the deep-league radar.

Nick Toon caught 1-of-2 targets for 24 yards in the Saints' Week 17 win over the Bucs.

The No. 122 pick of the 2012 draft, Toon caught 17 passes for 215 yards this season after injuries helped limit him to four total grabs through his first two years in the league. Signed for an affordable $660,000, Toon should be back to close out his rookie contract in 2015, but there's no guarantee he'll be in for any sort of a role. Toon's outlook would brighten if the Saints decided to move on from Marques Colston's $6.9 million salary.

Nick Toon caught 3-of-6 targets for 44 yards Week 16 against the Falcons.

Toon has seen his snap count grow over the last several weeks and was once again a big part of the Saints' offense. Brees took a deep shot to Toon in the second half, but he was unable to haul it in. The Saints will close out their season against Tampa Bay next week.

Nick Toon caught four passes for 43 yards in the Saints' Week 15 win over the Bears.

He reeled in all four of his targets for the second consecutive week. Toon has been chipping into Marques Colston's snaps. The Saints like to rotate their receivers, and Toon has taken over as the No. 3. It's still not enough to make him an option for 2014. But Toon could make Colston expendable in the offseason.

Nick Toon caught 4-of-4 targets for 45 yards in New Orleans' Week 14 loss to the Panthers.

Toon continues to play a much-bigger role in the absence of Brandin Cooks (wrist, injured reserve), but hasn't shown enough to put himself on the WR4/5 radar. He can continue to be ignored in re-draft leagues.

Nick Toon caught two passes for 17 yards and one touchdown in the Saints' Week 13 win over the Steelers.

Toon reeled in both of his targets as the seldom-used No. 4 receiver. There's no re-draft value here, though he's passed Robert Meachem on the depth chart.

Saints WR Nick Toon played 44-of-74 snaps in Monday's loss to the Ravens, catching 3-of-5 targets for 42 yards.

Each of the catches, yards and targets were the most of Toon's thus far dismal three-year career. He had previously never caught more than one pass in a game. The New Orleans Times-Picayune expects Toon to maintain a role for however long Robert Meachem (ankle) is sidelined. It's nice to see Toon finally getting some regular-season run, but he's highly unlikely to come into 2014 fantasy value.

Saints declared WR Nick Toon, RB Mark Ingram, LB David Hawthorne, S Marcus Ball, FB Erik Lorig, DB Stanley Jean-Baptiste and DL John Jenkins inactive for Week 3 against the Vikings.

A 2012 fourth-rounder, Toon has yet to suit up this season. He's worth keeping around in Dynasty leagues, but only as an end-of-roster type. Khiry Robinson will carry the "big back" mail in Ingram's absence, and should get at least 1-2 goal-line chances.

Saints WR Nick Toon failed to secure either of his targets in Saturday night's preseason clash with the Colts.

He has four catches for 17 yards this preseason. Toon is the direct backup to Marques Colston -- something to file away for forward thinkers -- but he has no re-draft value. The 25-year-old's Dynasty appeal is minimal at best.

The Times-Picayune has named Nick Toon one of the most impressive players at Saints camp so far.

Toon has "consistently come up with catches on nearly every pass pattern." It sounds like rapid improvement from last season, when he played on just 205 snaps and was active for just eight games, looking overmatched when asked to fill in for Lance Moore.

The Times-Picayune's Katherine Terrell believes WR Nick Toon has the "edge" in the battle for the Saints' fourth receiver job.

Terrell is the second Saints reporter to single out Toon in the last month. ESPN's Mike Triplett recently said Toon could see "significant" snaps this season. Marques Colston, Kenny Stills and rookie Brandin Cooks are locked in as the top-three receivers. Toon appears to be in the driver's seat for the No. 4. He's trying to hold off Joe Morgan and Robert Meachem, among others.

ESPN Saints reporter Mike Triplett believes WR Nick Toon has a chance at "significant" playing time this season.

Triplett admits Toon could be cut if he struggles in the preseason, but sees a "much better chance" he cracks the Saints' top-four wide receivers. Toon only saw 12 targets in 205 snaps last season, and was primarily used as a blocker. He can be safely ignored in fantasy leagues
