Russell Shepard caught 3-of-7 targets for 40 yards in the Panthers' Week 10 win over the Dolphins.
Shepard tied Curtis Samuel with seven for the most targets on the team, something interesting to note after the Kelvin Benjamin trade. He didn't turn his targets into much, but Samuel was forced off with an injury, something that could open even more opportunity for Shepard. He won't be more than a WR4 after the bye. Russell Shepard failed to catch either of his two targets in the Panthers' Week 9 win over the Falcons.

In the first game following the Kelvin Benjamin trade, it was rookie Curtis Samuel who got the start and posted a 3-23 line on five targets. Shepard remains a fantasy non-factor used mostly for his special teams prowess.
Nov 5 - 5:01 PM

Russell Shepard hauled in both of his targets for 53 yards and a touchdown in the Panthers' Week 1 win over the 49ers.

Shepard got the scoring started with a 40-yard touchdown where he was left wide open in the first quarter, and he added a 13-yard grab later in the game. He is clearly the Panthers' No. 3 receiver, but that is unlikely to result in consistent fantasy value.
Sep 10 - 7:55 PM's Bill Voth expects Russell Shepard to open the year as the No. 3 receiver.

Shepard has reportedly been a favorite target of Cam Newton and Derek Anderson at training camp. He had an expanded role in Tampa last year, but has been mostly a special teamer. With rookie Curtis Samuel missing the first two weeks of camp, Shepard's veteran status gives him the edge for early-season snaps.
Aug 18 - 6:34 PM

Panthers signed WR Russell Shepard to a three-year, $10.5 million contract.

Shepard had an expanded pass game role with Vincent Jackson sidelined last year, catching 23 passes for 341 yards and two touchdowns. The Panthers are a good landing spot without much behind Kelvin Benjamin. Shepard should still get the majority of his snaps on special teams.
Mar 10 - 6:32 PM

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports the Panthers are "working" to sign free agent WR/ST Russell Shepard.

As many as six teams have shown interest in Shepard, though he's apparently narrowed that list to four. The 26-year-old was primarily a special teamer early in his career but played a bigger role in the passing game last season with 23 catches for 341 yards and two touchdowns.
Mar 9 - 9:27 PM

ESPN Bucs reporter Jenna Laine reports six teams are interested in free agent WR/ST Russell Shepard.

The Bucs are among those teams, but Shepard's best opportunity could lie elsewhere. Laine reports "about half" of the six teams want to give him a legitimate role on offense while another team has offered to make him "one of the highest-paid special-teams players in the league with multiple offensive packages." This reads like an agent-driven report, but perhaps Shepard's market will be more robust than expected.

Bucs WR Russell Shepard caught 1-of-2 targets for 15 yards in Tampa Bay's Week 13 win over San Diego.

A gadget guy in Tampa's offense, Shepard doubles as a special teamer. He failed to step up in the Sunday absence of Cecil Shorts (knee) and Adam Humphries (concussion), with Freddie Martino (4-56) making more of an impact.

Buccaneers WR Russell Shepard (hip) is questionable for Week 11 against the Chiefs.

Shepard is set to return after missing the last two weeks with a hip injury. Though he does have a pair of touchdowns this year, Shepard remains well off the fantasy radar.

Buccaneers WR Russell Shepard (hip) is practicing in full for Week 11.

That puts him on track to return Sunday against Kansas City. Shepard has drawn just 13 targets in seven games this year. The only Bucs' receiver worth owning in fantasy is Mike Evans.
Thu, Nov 17, 2016 04:42:00 PM

Bucs WR Russell Shepard (hip) has been ruled out for Week 10.

Adam Humphries, Cameron Brate, and Cecil Shorts will continue to function as the Bucs' low-volume complementary pass catchers behind Mike Evans.
Fri, Nov 11, 2016 01:11:00 PM

Bucs declared WR Russell Shepard, DT Clinton McDonald, QB Ryan Griffin, RB Doug Martin, RB Jacquizz Rodgers, OT Leonard Wester and OL Caleb Benenoch inactive for Week 9 against the Falcons.

Shepard is week to week with a hip issue. Jameis Winston has extraordinarily few weapons behind Mike Evans.

Russell Shepard (hip) is doubtful for Week 9 against the Falcons.

The Bucs will move forward with Adam Humphries, Cecil Shorts, and Freddie Martino behind Mike Evans on Thursday night. Evans should continue to dominate the targets, probably even more without Jacquizz Rodgers.

Russell Shepard (hip) has been sidelined at Bucs practice.

Shepard took a huge hit in Sunday's loss to the Raiders, but wasn't announced with an injury. We now know it was hip, and that he's looking mighty questionable for Thursday's game against the Falcons. WR5/6 desperados need to be making other plans.

Russell Shepard caught 2-of-3 targets for 23 yards and a touchdown in the Bucs' Week 8 loss to the Raiders.

It was a quiet day for Shepard coming off his five-catch Week 7. He did manage to find the end zone for the second time in as many games. Shepard nearly got knocked out of the game by an illegal Karl Joseph hit, but managed to stay in. Shepard could eventually carve out some WR4 value in standard leagues, but he doesn't have it right now.
