Rams DT Michael Brockers suffered only "a little tweak" with his troublesome ankle in Sunday's win.

Making his NFL debut, Brockers crumpled to the ground on only his second series, but returned just a few plays later. "Got back in here, wrapped it up again, and got back in there," Brockers said. "Thought about the ankle a little bit. But in the game, the adrenaline's pumping and you kind of forget the ankle's there." Brockers was held off the stat sheet, but saw heavy snaps. He should be ready to make a bigger impact in Week 5.

Rams DT Michael Brockers (ankle) resumed practicing Wednesday.

Brockers only got in a limited session, but is "optimistic he'll be ready to play Sunday." The No. 14 pick would go a long way toward fortifying a run defense that's allowed 362 yards through three games. Brockers was impressive in the preseason.

Brockers participated in warmups ahead of Sunday's loss to the Bears, and the Rams sound optimistic that he'll be available for Week 4 against Seattle. St. Louis has been getting eviscerated by opposing running games without Brockers in the lineup. The 322-pound widebody's return could only help.

Brockers' absence could be a bigger deal against the run-savvy Redskins than it was against the pass-happy Lions a week ago. Brockers is dealing with a high ankle sprain. The Rams have yet to place a timetable on his return.

Rams declared DT Michael Brockers, RB Terrance Ganaway, S Darian Stewart, OT Ty Nsekhe, OG Shelley Smith, DT Matt Conrath and DT Darell Scott inactive for Week 1 against the Lions.

No surprises for a team that enters Week 1 as one of the healthier clubs in the league. The No. 14 pick, Brockers could return as early as next Sunday, but will likely be sidelined at least one more game. Rookie WRs Brian Quick and Chris Givens are both active, but unlikely to have any real role in the game-plan. Sam Bradford will be facing a Lions defense without FS Louis Delmas and LCB Chris Houston, but remains a poor QB2.

A Week 2 return had been Brockers' best-case scenario all along. UDFA Matt Conrath will also be inactive at Detroit with a knee injury, leaving uninspiring holdover Jermelle Cudjo to team up with recent waivers acquisition Kellen Heard next to Kendall Langford. Kevin Smith could be set up for a big game.

CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports Rams first-round pick Michael Brockers' ankle injury should only cost him 2-4 weeks.

La Canfora's report indicates Brockers avoided a dreaded high ankle sprain. Whereas the Rams may have been without Brockers until Week 4, they may now get him back as soon as Week 2 or 3. St. Louis will struggle to stop running games as long as Brockers is missing from the lineup. Look for the Rams to turn to a rotation of Matt Conrath and Kellen Heard to replace him against Detroit.

It's good news that Brockers has avoided a fracture, but he'll still likely be sidelined for upwards of a month. It's a tough blow for the Rams, as the No. 14 pick looked like a force in the preseason. Brockers' best-case scenario would be returning in Week 3 against the Bears, but Week 4 or 5 is more likely.

Rams rookie DT Michael Brockers was carted from the sideline to the locker room after sustaining a right ankle injury in the preseason finale.

Ravens OT Ramon Harewood landed on the side of Brockers' ankle, taking the first-rounder down for a minute or two in obvious pain. Trainers then helped Brockers walk off the field. GM Les Snead suggested Brockers would be back "soon." Consider him "day-to-day" for now.

Brockers has shown strength, quickness and athleticism rare for a 6'5", 322-pound interior tackle. Last year's first-rounder, Robert Quinn, has been "nearly impossible to block" throughout August. The Rams' front four is emerging as one of the most promising young position groups in the NFL.

Rams signed No. 14 overall pick DT Michael Brockers to a four-year, $9.52 million contract.

The Rams insist that Brockers is ready to make an impact even though draftniks slapped the LSU product with a "developmental" tag. He did have 54 tackles, including 10 for a loss, as a redshirt sophomore last season. Brockers projects as a starter on the interior next to Kendall Langford come Week 1.

Rams GM Les Snead confirmed that No. 14 overall pick DT Michael Brockers was "one of our top-rated players on the board."

"Not only did we get one of the players we wanted," said Snead, "but we made the defensive line unit one of our strongest units on the team." Coach Jeff Fisher bristles at the notion that Brockers is a developmental player. "He's NFL ready," Fisher said. "He's not what you refer to as a project that's going to take a couple years to get on the field and make a play here and there."

According to Yahoo's Mike Silver, the Rams were prepared to take DT Michael Brockers at No. 6 before trading down and selecting him at No. 14.

Owner Jerry Jones hinted he thought the Cowboys fleeced the Rams when they shipped their No. 14 and No. 45 picks to St. Louis for the right to take CB Morris Claiborne at No. 6, but from the Rams' point of view, they got an extra second-rounder to take the player they wanted all along. It's an impressive bit of GMing from rookie Les Snead. Of course, only time will tell if it was wise.
