Steelers placed RT Mike Adams (ankle) on season-ending injured reserve.
Adams, the No. 56 overall pick out of Ohio State in the 2012 draft, started six games this season and was beat up as a pass blocker. He allowed seven sacks and 15 quarterback hurries in ten games of action. Adams hadn't played since Week 12, and Kelvin Beachum has been starting in his place on the right side. Steelers declared RT Mike Adams inactive for Sunday's game against the Bengals.

Adams hasn't played since Week 12 and was listed on the injury report as doubtful. Also inactive for Steelers are CB Ike Taylor, WR Plaxico Burress, QB Byron Leftwich, CB Justin King, LB Adrian Robinson, and DE Al Woods. Taylor has missed the last three games with a leg injury and is targeting a Week 17 return.

Per CBS' Jason La Canfora, Steelers RT Mike Adams (ankle) is expected to be out a "significant period of time."

Adams has been diagnosed with a high ankle sprain. It's another blow to an offensive line that was already playing without normal starting RT Marcus Gilbert (ankle). Seventh-round rookie Kelvin Beachem is a candidate to step in, but newly activated first-round guard David DeCastro should give Mike Tomlin some flexibility.

Steelers RT Mike Adams will have a Monday MRI after injuring his ankle against the Browns Sunday.

Per CBS' Jason La Canfora, it "does not appear" that Adams broke his ankle. Therefore, the MRI will determine the severity of his sprain. It's worth noting that Adams was in a ton of pain and had to be carted to the locker room after going down. The Steelers are already without normal RT Marcus Gilbert (ankle), so seventh-round rookie Kelvin Beachem was forced into action Sunday.

Steelers RT Mike Adams left Sunday's Week 12 game against the Browns with an ankle injury.

Adams had to be helped off the field in the third quarter and was then carted to the locker room. It's a major concern for an offensive line that lost starting LG Willie Colon (knee) in pregame. Seventh-round rookie Kelvin Beachum has come on at right tackle.

Steelers rookie OT Mike Adams (knee) returned to practice on Thursday.

Adams appears to have been demoted to the second team after proving not ready for prime time in the preseason opener. Recently activated from the PUP list, Max Starks (ACL surgery) concedes that he's "not close" to playing yet. RT Marcus Gilbert is standing in at left tackle in the meantime.

Steelers rookie LT Mike Adams (knee) has a mild MCL sprain, and won't require surgery.

Adams hasn't practiced since leaving Thursday's preseason game, and will be sidelined about two weeks. It's a setback for a player already having an inconsistent August. Marcus Gilbert and Trai Essex will be given an extended look at left tackle.

Post-game testing showed that Steelers rookie LT Mike Adams' right knee injury is not severe.

He may miss a day or two of practice, but should be back on the field this week. Adams struggled mightily in his first NFL audition, serving up 2 1/2 sacks before leaving hurt. He'll need to protect better to hold off Max Starks.

Steelers rookie LT Mike Adams exited Thursday night's preseason opener with an injured right knee.

His psyche may have been more hurt after Adams served up 2 1/2 sacks during a nine-snap span with the first-team offense. Adams was reportedly shining in camp before this, but he's obviously got a ways to go to win the starting left tackle job. The Steelers were smart to re-sign Max Starks as insurance.

Second-round pick Mike Adams has reportedly showed "good athleticism" and an "ability to move people off the line of scrimmage" so far in Steelers camp.

Adams' physicality was criticized during the pre-draft stage, but he's impressing observers and teammates thus far in practice. "He looks good, real good," said Ben Roethlisberger. "... We got to see him get into a little bit of a scuffle the other night, which is good to see in a young lineman, see, as the offensive line says, what kind of dog he has in him. It was good to see his tenacity."

No. 56 overall pick Mike Adams has been practicing as the Steelers' first-team left tackle in training camp.

Even if Max Starks (knee) gets off PUP, he'll likely end up as insurance behind Adams. The 6'7/323 manchild has been pegged as Ben Roethlisberger's blind-side protector since the draft. In 12 starts last season, Starks graded out as the 32nd-best offensive tackle among 76 who qualified, per Pro Football Focus.

Rookie Mike Adams lined up with the first-team offense at left tackle during the Steelers' final minicamp.

Ben Roethlisberger's blind side was a major issue for the Steelers last season. They're prepared to plug the hole with Adams, a second-round pick who has prototypical size at 6'7/323. The Steelers' fallback option would be to move RT Marcus Gilbert to left tackle, but they clearly want Adams to nail down the job.

Steelers agreed to terms with No. 56 overall pick OT Mike Adams on a four-year contract.

He's the fourth Steelers pick to sign. Coach Mike Tomlin has hinted Adams will be given an opportunity to start at left tackle. Adams has ideal blindside size at 6-foot-7, 323, but questions about his strength and quickness led many draftniks to peg him as a right tackle. Adams will compete with Marcus Gilbert at a position that was a source of great frustration for the 2011 Steelers.

Steelers coach Mike Tomlin confirmed that second-round pick Mike Adams will practice exclusively at left tackle this offseason.

Some draftniks pegged Adams as a future right tackle, but he was strictly a left tackle at Ohio State and will begin his Pittsburgh career there. If Adams has a good spring and summer, he could open the season as Ben Roethlisberger's blind side protector with Marcus Gilbert staying at right tackle and Willie Colon kicking to left guard. First-rounder David DeCastro will be the right guard.

Steelers selected Ohio State OT Mike Adams with the No. 56 overall pick in the 2012 NFL draft.

A very different prospect than first-round pick David DeCastro, Adams has had a difficult postseason. First, he had an inconsistent Senior Bowl performance after a similar career at Ohio State. Then Adams only completed 19 bench press reps at the Combine and tested positive for marijuana. There is no doubting Adams possesses an ideal tackle build, but his reaction quickness and strength are lacking. The Steelers have a future starter on their hands if they set him straight.
