Cowboys placed QB Kellen Moore on injured reserve with a broken ankle, ending his season.
With Tony Romo out months with a back injury, the Cowboys need a new No. 2 quarterback behind rookie starter Dak Prescott. It's a major concern for a team with its usual playoff designs. Now 27, Moore will head into 2017 with 104 career attempts, all of which came last season. He's unlikely to ever get another chance at No. 2 duties. Aug 30 - 4:15 PM

Cowboys QB Kellen Moore (ankle) will be sidelined 3-4 months.

Best-case scenario, Moore will be back early-November. Realistically, the Cowboys are highly likely to find a new No. 2 quarterback, and will send Moore to season-ending injured reserve. Moore will be a free agent next March.

Cowboys No. 2 QB Kellen Moore suffered a broken right ankle at Tuesday night's training camp practice.

He's likely going to miss the season, though it's possible he takes up the Cowboys' I.R./designated for return spot if no other significant injuries occur this summer. Rookie Dak Prescott simply isn't ready for NFL ball. This could pave the way for the Cowboys to sign Nick Foles to be Tony Romo's caddy.
Aug 2 - 9:04 PM

Jerry Jones said Kellen Moore will serve as the backup quarterback this season.

Dallas drafted Dak Prescott to be their backup of the future, but he needs seasoning before he is ready to hold the clipboard. Moore struggled when thrust into a starting role last year, but he is a smart player who is an asset in the quarterback room. No matter who the "backup" is, Dallas' playoff hopes rest on the health of Tony Romo.
May 5 - 9:54 AM

Kellen Moore completed 33-of-48 passes for 435 yards, three touchdowns, and two interceptions in the Cowboys' Week 17 loss to Washington.

The stats look good, but Moore was playing against a Washington team that was resting most of its starters. Moore was still an upgrade over Matt Cassel, but looks maxed out as a No. 3 quarterback. He's signed for a non-guaranteed $760,000 in 2016.
Jan 3 - 6:32 PM

The Cowboys will start Kellen Moore in their season finale versus Washington.

Moore has been predictably ineffective through two spot appearances (one start), completing just half of his 56 passes with a 6.1 yards-per-attempt average, one touchdown, and four interceptions. The Cowboys have seen enough of Matt Cassel, however, and Tony Romo went on injured reserve last week.

Kellen Moore completed 13-of-31 passes for 186 yards and an interception in the Cowboys' Week 16 loss to Buffalo.

It's a highly ineffective game from Moore, but he didn't have much of a supporting cast with Dez Bryant out. His interception was on a dropped pass that should have been caught, but Moore had a number of bad underthrows. He still managed to move the offense better than Matt Cassel. Moore will close out the season against Washington.

Cowboys coach Jason Garrett confirmed Kellen Moore will be the starting quarterback Week 16 against Buffalo.

Moore did not play particularly well Saturday night against the Jets, but the Cowboys made it fairly clear last week they were itching to make a change. With nothing left to play for, they might as well see what Moore can do. Moore will not be a fantasy option in even the deepest of leagues.

Cowboys coach Jason Garrett declined to name Kellen Moore the starting quarterback following Saturday's loss to the Jets.

"We'll go back, and we'll evaluate the tape," Garrett said, "and we'll make the determinations and really throw out a roster as to who we want to play and how we want to play it." Garrett can play coy if he likes, but it would be surprising if Moore did not start Week 16. Dallas dropped bread crumbs all last week the switch was coming at quarterback, and Cassel was on an extremely short leash Saturday night. Moore did not play well, but they might as well see what the future coach can do.

Kellen Moore completed 15-of-25 passes for 158 yards, one touchdown, and three interceptions in the Cowboys' Week 15 loss to the Jets.

Dallas is officially eliminated from the postseason. Moore replaced a wholly ineffective Matt Cassel in the second quarter of Saturday night's 19-16 loss. Moore ducked away from the Jets' pass rush on his second dropback, popped up and threw an easy interception to Antonio Cromartie in double coverage. Moore rebounded to lead a touchdown drive capped by a ten-yard quick hitter to Dez Bryant in the second quarter, but was picked again by Jets SS Calvin Pryor on Dallas' first possession of the second half, this time in the end zone to kill a promising drive. Moore's final pick occurred on what amounted to a Hail Mary on the Cowboys' final play of the game. Moore's stats look rough in the box score, but he certainly moved Dallas' offense better than Cassel has. Expect Moore to get his first NFL start in Week 16 against the Bills.

Cowboys vice president Stephen Jones said it will be "interesting" to see what Kellen Moore can do "if he does get the opportunity."

Stephen Jones admitted Moore's arm is not "Elwayesque," but called the quarterback a "winner." Jerry Jones said the organization was "real clear" they were not going to bench Matt Cassel this week but left open the possibility of Moore playing in a blowout. Moore has not played a regular-season game in the NFL, but these comments matched with the first-team reps he saw this week in practice indicate he could see some NFL snaps in the very near future.

Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said QB Kellen Moore has taken some first-team reps in practice this week.

Garrett added he has worked mostly with the scout team, but Moore working at all with the starters suggests the Cowboys will at least consider benching struggling starter Matt Cassel over the final three weeks of the season. Moore is unlikely to move the offense more effectively than Cassel, but it would be difficult to do worse.

Cowboys signed QB Kellen Moore off their practice squad.

He'll back up Matt Cassel after Tony Romo re-broke his collarbone on Thanksgiving.
Wed, Dec 2, 2015 02:36:00 PM

Cowboys waived QB Kellen Moore.

Even with Matt Cassel and Brandon Weeden both struggling mightily in Tony Romo's (collarbone) absence, Moore was never a consideration under center. With Romo expected back for Week 11, keeping Moore around for emergency purposes was no longer necessary. Moore is expected to be signed to the practice squad if/once he clears waivers.
Tue, Nov 10, 2015 05:14:00 PM doesn't expect the team to turn to Kellen Moore at quarterback.

Matt Cassel has been painfully bad since replacing Brandon Weeden, but the 'Boys apparently want to stick with his "veteran experience." A 26-year-old career backup who has never attempted a regular season pass, Moore would be a total shot in the dark.
