Cowboys hired Kellen Moore as QBs coach.
He's replacing Wade Wilson (the coach, not the comic book character known as Deadpool), who was let go shortly after the Cowboys wrapped up their season. Moore spent part of last season as the Cowboys' No. 3 quarterback before later announcing his retirement. The 29-year-old will work with Jason Garrett to get the most out of Dak Prescott. The Cowboys are expected to hire Kellen Moore as their QB coach.

Moore opened 2017 with the Cowboys but retired after spending the second half of the season out of the league. This is a high-upside hire for Dallas, with 28-year-old Moore now set to be one of the youngest position coaches in the league. Moore has six seasons in OC Scott Linehan's scheme and could be a fast riser in the Jason Garrett coaching tree.

Cowboys released QB Kellen Moore.

The writing was on the wall after Moore was a healthy scratch in favor of Cooper Rush last Sunday. Frankly, it's astounding Moore made it as long as he did in Dallas. He does not have an NFL skill-set.

Cowboys declared QB Kellen Moore, RB Darren McFadden, CB Chidobe Awuzie, LB Justin Durant, DE Damontre Moore, G/T Byron Bell and DE Benson Mayowa inactive for Week 7 against the 49ers.

Moore has been passed up for No. 2 duties by UDFA Cooper Rush.

Dallas re-signed QB Kellen Moore.

He was cut this weekend in a procedural move. Moore was outplayed by Cooper Rush in the preseason, but the Cowboys apparently value the veteran's presence in the quarterback room.

Cowboys released QB Kellen Moore.

Moore entered camp as Dak Prescott's backup, but he was outplayed by Cooper Rush this preseason. Dallas could roll with Rush or look to add a veteran. Brandon Weeden, who spent time with the Cowboys in 2014 and 2015, was just cut by the Texans. Dallas also could bring back Moore.

According to Clarence Hill of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, the Cowboys are concerned enough about Kellen Moore's play for it to be a "subject of conversation" at upcoming personnel meetings.

The Cowboys continue to publicly back Moore as their No. 2 quarterback, though they haven't shown the same confidence in him behind closed doors. Moore has completed just 18-of-38 passes for 200 yards over his last two preseason games, and Dallas reportedly gave undrafted rookie Cooper Rush snaps with the second-team on Monday. Rush is equally unprepared for backup duties, however, so the Cowboys would be wise to scour the market for another arm. Colin Kaepernick remains the best quarterback available, though teams have been hesitant to sign him following his highly publicized national anthem protest last season.

Cowboys OC Scott Linehan continues to endorse Kellen Moore as the team's backup quarterback.

"He’s like a machine," said, Linehan. "He anticipates and sees guys open. He’s extremely accurate." Cole Beasley added that Moore has been "exceptional" at spring practices. That's high praise for an undersized 27-year-old who has played all of 171 snaps in his five-year career. Colin Kaepernick and others are still available, but it looks like the Cowboys are going to stand pat with Moore as their No. 2.

Kellen Moore is expected to open training camp as the Cowboys' No. 2 quarterback behind Dak Prescott.

After an abysmal three-game run in which he committed seven turnovers in 2015, Moore missed all of 2016 with a broken ankle. OC Scott Linehan insists Moore made a "big jump in his game" last offseason. "He's really progressed, he's really a veteran," Linehan said. "He gets the game. He's been around some of these great quarterbacks with Matthew [Stafford] in Detroit and Tony (Romo), and kind of being there for Dak last year."

Cowboys re-signed QB Kellen Moore.

With Tony Romo de facto out the door, Moore is temporarily the No. 2. Too physically slight to be a legitimate backup, Moore should eventually be jumped by a free agent signing or draft pick.

The Cowboys are expected to re-sign free agent Kellen Moore.

Moore missed all of 2016 to a broken ankle but should be healthy for OTAs. The Cowboys are higher on him than free agent Mark Sanchez. ESPN’s Todd Archer considers Moore the favorite to back up Dak Prescott.

Cowboys placed QB Kellen Moore on injured reserve with a broken ankle, ending his season.

With Tony Romo out months with a back injury, the Cowboys need a new No. 2 quarterback behind rookie starter Dak Prescott. It's a major concern for a team with its usual playoff designs. Now 27, Moore will head into 2017 with 104 career attempts, all of which came last season. He's unlikely to ever get another chance at No. 2 duties.

Cowboys QB Kellen Moore (ankle) will be sidelined 3-4 months.

Best-case scenario, Moore will be back early-November. Realistically, the Cowboys are highly likely to find a new No. 2 quarterback, and will send Moore to season-ending injured reserve. Moore will be a free agent next March.

Cowboys No. 2 QB Kellen Moore suffered a broken right ankle at Tuesday night's training camp practice.

He's likely going to miss the season, though it's possible he takes up the Cowboys' I.R./designated for return spot if no other significant injuries occur this summer. Rookie Dak Prescott simply isn't ready for NFL ball. This could pave the way for the Cowboys to sign Nick Foles to be Tony Romo's caddy.

Jerry Jones said Kellen Moore will serve as the backup quarterback this season.

Dallas drafted Dak Prescott to be their backup of the future, but he needs seasoning before he is ready to hold the clipboard. Moore struggled when thrust into a starting role last year, but he is a smart player who is an asset in the quarterback room. No matter who the "backup" is, Dallas' playoff hopes rest on the health of Tony Romo.
