Chiefs LB Mark Simoneau was forced to retire from football due to a serious neck injury sustained in Week 10.
"I sustained an injury to my neck on Sunday that caused me to lose feeling in both of my arms for a period of time," he said. "I consulted with doctors and they assured me I will make a full recovery. ... It’s hard to end my career on this note but the thought of not being able to pick my daughter up was enough to make me realize I have to move on to the next phase of my life." Chiefs worked out free agent LBs Mark Simoneau, Larry Izzo, and Chris McCoy.

Izzo, a former Patriot, is well known to GM Scott Pioli. Former Saints starter Simoneau is a local product, having starred at Kansas State. The Chiefs are probably just building a call list on their bye week.

Saints released LB Mark Simoneau.

Simoneau, now 33, was due $1.25 million after spending the 2009 season on injured reserve with a torn triceps muscle. Back surgery also caused him to miss the 2008 season, so he won't draw much interest in free agency.

Saints placed LB Mark Simoneau on injured reserve with a torn triceps muscle, ending his season.

A Derrick Brooks signing may be forthcoming. Simoneau turns 32 before next season and has been very injury prone late in his career. He's quite unlikely to be brought back at his $1.25 million scheduled base salary.

Saints LB Mark Simoneau is in danger of missing the season after tearing his triceps in Saturday's scrimmage.

Saints veteran LB Mark Simoneau, CB Mike McKenzie, DT Brian Young, QB Mark Brunell, and DT Hollis Thomas could be asked to renegotiate their contracts or "face being released."

Saints re-signed LB Mark Simoneau to an undisclosed contract, according to Scout.com's Adam Caplan.

A surprise with Jonathan Vilma headed to New Orleans. Simoneau fits best as a fourth linebacker, but could've found a better chance to start if he tried. Of course, if Vilma isn't healthy by camp, Simoneau is fine insurance.

The Saints aren't expected to re-sign impending free agent MLB Mark Simoneau this offseason.

Simoneau held off Brian Simmons in 2007, but made few big plays and only 70 tackles despite starting every game. There are few middle linebackers available in free agency, so New Orleans might have to draft a replacement.

Mark Simoneau reportedly has a "clear lead" over Brian Simmons for the starting MLB job in New Orleans.

Not a good sign for Simmons, but not a huge surprise for an aging player joining a new team. Simoneau is undersized, but did a serviceable job for the Saints last year.
