The Rams can save $941,000 against the cap by releasing RB Isaiah Pead this offseason.
St. Louis shouldn't have much trouble getting under the salary cap, but cutting Pead, who has mostly been a non-factor during his tenure with the Rams, seems like a no-brainer. The former second-round pick missed all of last season after injuring his knee in a preseason game. Even if Pead was healthy, he'd only be fourth on the team's depth chart behind Tre Mason, Benny Cunningham and Zac Stacy. Pead's future doesn't look like it's in St. Louis. Feb 9 - 12:21 PM

Rams RB Isaiah Pead (torn ACL) has cleared waivers, and reverted to injured reserve.

Pead is signed through 2015, but didn't show enough through his first two years in the league for a team to take a chance as he recovers from a major knee injury. Pead will be on the outside looking in of the 53-man roster next summer.

Rams waived/injured RB Isaiah Pead (torn ACL).

Pead tore his ACL while returning the opening kickoff last weekend against the Packers. If he clears waivers, he'll go to the Rams' injured reserve list. He's obviously out for the season, but the former second-round pick has two years left on his rookie contract. A claiming team would have him for 2015. For Pead's sake, it might be best to get claimed and get a fresh start in a new city.

Rams coach Jeff Fisher confirmed Sunday that RB Isaiah Pead has a torn ACL and will be lost for the season.

Drop him in Dynasty leagues if you haven't already. The 2012 second-rounder had been reduced to special teams since falling to No. 4 on St. Louis' tailback depth chart. Pead will enter the last year of his rookie deal in 2015.

Coach Jeff Fisher said after Saturday night's preseason game the Rams believe RB Isaiah Pead has a torn ACL.

The 50th overall pick in the 2012 draft, this should solidify Pead as a bust in St. Louis. He had been relegated to special teams after falling behind Zac Stacy, Benny Cunningham, and rookie Tre Mason on the running back chart.

Isaiah Pead will undergo an MRI Sunday on his knee.

Per NFL.com's Ian Rapoport, the "prospects aren't good." Pead left Saturday's game in the first quarter after suffering a non-contact knee injury. He could be headed to injured reserve.

Isaiah Pead was forced from Saturday's preseason game with a knee injury

Pead got hurt on a kick return in the first quarter. It was a non-contact injury, so this has potential to be serious. Pead had to be helped off the field and was later carted to the locker room. The Rams should provide an update on his status after the game.

Isaiah Pead is expected to dress every week for the Rams due to his play on special teams.

When Pead fell out of the backfield mix last year, he went to special teams John Fassel and asked to run down kicks. He excelled in that role over the final seven games, giving him a strong shot at this year's roster. The loser of the Rams' No. 2 tailback job -- between Tre Mason and Benny Cunningham -- may be a game-day scratch in 2014, behind Zac Stacy with Pead as the active No. 3.

NFL insider Dan Pompei reports Rams 2012 second-round pick Isaiah Pead was "the subject of some trade talks during the draft."

The Rams return Zac Stacy and Benny Cunningham, and used a top-75 pick on Tre Mason. At the Combine, GM Les Snead indicated he sees Pead as mostly a special teamer. Pead's roster chances are around 50:50 entering training camp. It's likely St. Louis was the initiator of trade talks, not the other way around. Through two NFL seasons, Pead has 17 carries for 75 yards (4.4 YPC).

Rams GM Les Snead indicated at the Combine that the team now envisions 2012 second-round pick Isaiah Pead as a special teamer.

Knowshon Moreno and Donald Brown give talented Pead some hope for a later-career resurgence, but he's clearly now on the backburner in St. Louis' backfield. "He became one of our better special teamers," Snead said of Pead. "You can expect some nice things going forward for him." Pead finished 2013 with two special teams tackles. He was the 50th overall pick in the 2012 draft.

Rams RB Isaiah Pead isn't assured of returning to St. Louis in 2014.

The 50th overall pick in the 2012 draft, Pead will have to scrape for a roster spot after earning just 17 carries through two NFL seasons. Although Pead's college tape was largely impressive, he simply hasn't panned out in the NFL, and his passion for football has been questioned. Zac Stacy is locked in as St. Louis' franchise back, with Benny Cunningham favored for the No. 2 role.

It's unclear if Isaiah Pead or Daryl Richardson would be the No. 2 back if Zac Stacy (concussion) sits out Sunday.

It's a foregone conclusion that Benny Cunningham would start and be the feature back in the event Stacy can't get cleared. Behind him, it gets more muddled. Pead played just five snaps against the Bears and got no touches while Richardson was a healthy scratch. The coaching staff doesn't appear to have much faith in either one right now.

Rams declared RB Isaiah Pead a healthy inactive for Monday night's Week 8 game against the Seahawks.

Even with Benny Cunningham (ankle) also inactive, Pead still can't crack the game-day 46. Zac Stacy and Daryl Richardson will handle backfield duties. Also inactive for the Rams are QB Brady Quinn, G/C Barrett Jones, T Mike Person, and DE Gerald Rivers. Cortland Finnegan (thigh) and C Scott Wells (thigh) are active.

Isaiah Pead recorded no carries or receptions in Sunday's Week 5 win over the Jaguars.

Pead was active, but settled in as the No. 4 back behind Zac Stacy, Daryl Richardson and Benny Cunningham. He's clearly in Jeff Fisher's doghouse -- whether that's due to on-field or off-field matters.

The Associated Press calls Isaiah Pead and Zac Stacy the "top candidates" to start Sunday's game against the Jaguars.

The Rams were noncommittal on the starting running back situation Wednesday. "We haven't decided yet," coach Jeff Fisher said. "We'll probably play most if not all the running backs that are active. Depends on what package we're in." The lack of clarity here is going to make it tough to use any Rams back despite a dream matchup at home against the Jags Sunday. We do know that no one in the media is giving Benny Cunningham a chance to start and Daryl Richardson said via Twitter that he's not starting.
