Steelers signed TE Michael Egnew to a reserve/future contract.
Egnew is an excellent athlete in a t-shirt and shorts, but lacks physicality to his game and has never picked up blocking since playing in the University of Missouri's spread offense. He's purely a project at 25 years old. Jan 9 - 4:08 PM

Jaguars signed TE Michael Egnew to the practice squad.

Waived by the Dolphins in mid-August, Egnew spent five days on the Lions' roster before getting the heave-ho on cutdown day. Egnew has barely even shown anything in practice since being the No. 78 overall pick of the 2012 draft. He's running out of time on the fringes of the NFL.

Lions release TE Michael Egnew.

Egnew lasted five days on the Lions' roster. Egnew has been a massive disappointment since the Dolphins made him the No. 78 overall pick of the 2012 draft. Despite the struggles, his pedigree will likely land him another chance.

Lions claimed TE Michael Egnew off waivers from the Dolphins.

The Lions have also claimed TE Emil Igwenagu from the Eagles. Egnew has shown absolutely nothing since being the No. 78 overall pick of the 2012 draft, and we wouldn't expect that to change in Detroit. It will be a victory if he makes it to final cuts.

Dolphins waived TE Michael Egnew.

One of ex-GM Jeff Ireland's seemingly countless misfires, Egnew was exposed as a product of Mizzou's spread offense quickly after the Dolphins made him a top-80 pick in the 2012 draft. It's particularly telling that the new Dolphins regime saw more potential in Arthur Lynch, Gator Hoskins, and Brett Brackett.

Dolphins TE Michael Egnew has been "largely invisible" since returning from a concussion earlier this month.

Assessing his tight-end group on Thursday, coach Joe Philbin "withheld praise" for the 2012 third-rounder. It's increasingly unlikely that Egnew cracks the 53.

Dolphins third-year TE Michael Egnew will miss multiple practices with a concussion.

The Dolphins were forced to scoop up TE Brett Brackett off the street with Egnew and Charles Clay (knee) on the shelf. A bubble player, Egnew can't afford to miss much time, and is considered day-to-day. He's competing with Dion Sims, Arthur Lynch, and Gator Hoskins for a reserve role behind Clay.

Dolphins OC Bill Lazor is using third-year TE Michael Egnew out wide and off the line more than ex-OC Mike Sherman.

Egnew has played just 255 snaps since being the 78th overall pick in the 2012 draft, and he was asked to block on half of them. Egnew was more receiver than tight end in Mizzou's spread offense in college. Getting him out in the slot and away from linemen and linebackers is the best idea. Egnew is competing for a roster spot this summer. Lazor at least seems to know his players' strengths.

The Miami Herald expects third-year TE Michael Egnew to be on the roster bubble in training camp.

Reporter Barry Jackson anticipates the Fins adding "at least two tight ends" to push for Egnew's job. The 78th overall pick in the 2012 draft, Egnew has seven catches through two NFL seasons, and has predictably struggled mightily as a run blocker. He's also off scholarship under Miami's new general manager.

Coach Joe Philbin says second-year TE Michael Egnew "really improved an awful lot" this summer.

Egnew had nowhere to go but up. So while it's nice to hear he's getting better, he really didn't have much of a choice. "He's a guy we're excited about," continued Philbin. Egnew is no higher than the No. 4 tight end on the depth chart, and he's going to struggle to find playing time this season.

Dolphins OC Mike Sherman said second-year TE Michael Egnew has made "drastic improvement from a year ago."

"He’s a lot more physical," Sherman said. "His blocking has really improved. Still has to show more consistency. His peaks and valleys aren’t quite as [dramatic]." Egnew is still far too inconsistent, and he's no higher than the No. 4 tight end on the depth chart. He also had a drop in the Hall of Fame Game.

Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald does not expect TE Michael Egnew to make the Dolphins' final roster.

The much maligned Egnew is already off to a rough start at training camp. He opened up with the third- and fourth-stringers and fumbled on Tuesday. The Dolphins may end up just cutting their losses on the 2012 third-rounder; they're already giving rookie Dion Sims a few reps with the starters.

Dolphins 2012 third-round pick Michael Egnew opened training camp with the third- and fourth-team offenses.

"So much for him having a great offseason," quipped Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald. Egnew has apparently already been passed on the depth chart by fourth-round rookie Dion Sims. He's also behind Dustin Keller and Charles Clay.

After a solid beginning to spring practices, Dolphins TE Michael Egnew reportedly "faded" late in the offseason program.

Egnew's blocking "remains questionable," and he's not considered likely to open the season as one of Miami's top three tight ends. One of GM Jeff Ireland's biggest draft blunders -- and Ireland has had many -- Egnew is squarely on the roster bubble just 15 months removed from being a top-80 overall pick.

The Miami Herald reports there's "continued skepticism" among Michael Egnew's Dolphins teammates that he's ready to take a step forward this season.

We heard a few good things about Egnew during OTAs, but always a top-notch athlete, it's not surprising he looked good without pads on. It's his toughness and football IQ that have to improve. We're not holding our breath.
