Eagles WLB Mychal Kendricks has bulked up from 235 pounds to 250.
However, Kendricks isn't sure if that will end up being his 2016 playing weight. Kendricks is known for his speed and range, and must be experimenting with how much some added heft would affect that. At the very least, all Eagles defenders will be playing fewer snaps with coach Chip Kelly gone. May 24 - 3:27 PM

Date:

Mychal Kendricks is expected to play weak-side linebacker in the Eagles' new 4-3 defense.

Kendricks will be new DC Jim Schwartz's next DeAndre Levy. Levy was a do-it-all WILL linebacker under Schwartz, and it earned him a big pay day. Kendricks has the speed and range to make plays sideline-to-sideline, but is coming off a really disappointing 2015. Early projections have Kendricks at WLB, Jordan Hicks at MIKE, and Connor Barwin on the strong side. That'd leave Kiko Alonso as the odd man out. It's possible the Eagles will look to trade Alonso.

Eagles ILB Mychal Kendricks (hamstring) was a full participant in Wednesday's practice.

Kendricks made it seem like he has a good chance to play this week, but also noted waiting through the Week 8 bye is still an option. With DeMeco Ryans questionable with a hamstring injury, Kendricks playing this week would be a big boost for the Eagles' defense.

Eagles ILB Mychal Kendricks (hamstring) has been ruled out for Week 5.

With Kendricks and Kiko Alonso (knee) both ruled out against the Saints, the Eagles will start DeMeco Ryans and rookie Jordan Hicks at inside linebacker.

The Philadelphia Inquirer's Jeff McLane reported it "will be a stretch" for Eagles ILB Mychal Kendricks (hamstring) to play Week 5.

Kendricks aggravated his hamstring injury early in the first quarter Week 4 against the Redskins. McLane reported the aggravation knocked Kendricks' hamstring "back to where it was two weeks ago." Rookie Jordan Hicks has 23 tackles and an interception filling in for Kendricks over the last three weeks.

Eagles ILB Mychal Kendricks aggravated his hamstring injury early in the first quarter Week 4 against the Redskins.

He is questionable to return. Jordan Hicks will once again play big snaps with Kendricks on the sidelines.

Eagles ILB Mychal Kendricks (hamstring) is active Week 4 against the Redskins.

Kendricks practiced in full all week. He will start and rotate with DeMeco Ryans and rookie Jordan Hicks in the middle of the Eagles' defense.

Eagles ILB Mychal Kendricks (hamstring) was a full participant in Wednesday's practice.

Eagles DC Bill Davis said he expected Kendricks to play this week, and a full practice on Wednesday put him squarely on track. Kendricks should start, but rookie Jordan Hicks earned rotational snaps with his performance Week 3.

Eagles DC Bill Davis expects ILB Mychal Kendricks (hamstring) to play this week.

Kendricks was not able to get in any practice time last week, but Davis' confidence suggests he should get some work in on Wednesday. Jordan Hicks played well in Kendricks' place and will remain a member of the rotation even when Kendricks gets healthy.

Eagles ILB Mychal Kendricks (hamstring) has been ruled out for Week 3.

With Kiko Alonso (knee) also on the shelf, Philadelphia will be missing both of its inside linebackers against the Jets. Especially if Chris Ivory (quad, groin) ends up not playing, Bilal Powell could be a sneaky option this week.

Eagles DC Bill Davis said ILB Mychal Kendricks (hamstring) "has a shot" to play Week 3.

Davis admitted the "shot" was small, but it means his hamstring injury should not be a multi-week concern. Kendricks did not practice on Tuesday. Jordan Hicks will start if Kendricks cannot play.

Eagles ILB Mychal Kendricks said his injured hamstring was "okay."

Kendricks would not commit to playing this week, saying the week of practice would determine his availability. With Kiko Alonso (knee) likely done for the year, the Eagles need Kendricks in the middle of their defense. Rookie Jordan Hicks would start if Kendricks cannot play.

Mychal Kendricks exited the Eagles' Week 2 game against the Cowboys with a left hamstring injury.

He has officially been ruled out. Kendrick injured the hamstring just before the end of the first half. With Kiko Alonso (knee) also out, rookie Jordan Hicks will get significant snaps in the second half.

Eagles signed ILB Mychal Kendricks to a four-year, $29 million contract extension through 2019.

It includes $16 million guaranteed. From being the center of trade chatter during the spring to signing a long-term deal, Kendricks will be in Philadelphia the next five seasons. He's one of the few survivors of the Andy Reid era. Kendricks is a Chip Kelly player, as he's fast enough to play sideline-to-sideline in the run game and cover opposing tight ends and running backs. Once DeMeco Ryans' time is up, it'll be Kendricks and Kiko Alonso on the inside for the Eagles.

Eagles coach Chip Kelly made it clear Sunday that contract-year ILB Mychal Kendricks will not be traded.

"You can write that down in ink," Kelly emphasized. Kendricks has been the subject of trade rumors since the Eagles traded for Kiko Alonso, signed Brad Jones, and used a third-round pick on Jordan Hicks, all of whom play the same position as Kendricks. Kendricks is a rising star, though, and the Eagles need him in 2015 with DeMeco Ryans coming off a torn Achilles' tendon.
