Redskins agreed to terms with ILB Zach Brown, formerly of the Bills, on a one-year contract.
The deal is worth "a maximum value of $4.65 million" and contains a $500,000 signing bonus. 27-year-old Brown established career highs in tackles (149) and forced fumbles (2) in Buffalo last season, although his play leveled off after a hot start, and the Bills' run defense ultimately went in the tank. Washington's defense also struggled versus the run in 2016. In D.C., Brown will compete with incumbents Mason Foster and Will Compton for two starting inside linebacker spots. Apr 3 - 3:44 PM

Free agent ILB Zach Brown will visit the Redskins on Monday.

Mason Foster and Will Compton are the Redskins' incumbent starters at inside linebacker. Brown would likely replace Compton in the starting lineup. Brown has also drawn interest from the Dolphins, Raiders, and Bills. Miami is believed to have dropped out of the running, making Oakland, Washington, and a return to Buffalo Brown's likeliest destinations.

The Palm Beach Post reports the Dolphins are doubtful to sign free agent LB Zach Brown.

It leaves the Raiders as his most likely landing spot. Brown has been holding out for more money, but it sounds like he's going to have to settle for a reduced deal.
Mar 31 - 6:11 PM

The Miami Herald's Armando Salguero reports free agent LB Zach Brown has narrowed his list down to the Dolphins and Raiders.

The report suggests his visit with the Bills, who he played for last season, did not go well. Salguero points out neither team has met his asking price to this point, so it is possible another team swoops in with a better offer. Brown would be a great get for either team, especially if it comes at a discounted price.

Free agent LB Zach Brown is "exploring all options."

Brown has visited Buffalo, Miami and Oakland. He wasn't close on money with the Dolphins, but hasn't ruled out signing with any of the teams. 27-year-old Brown is the top linebacker remaining on the market.

The Miami Herald reports the Dolphins and free agent LB Zach Brown are "not close" on money.

That being said, Barry Jackson reports Brown has "by no means" ruled out the Dolphins if "more financially lucrative options do not emerge." Brown would reportedly play strong-side linebacker for the 'Fins. After leaving Miami without a deal, Brown is meeting with his 2016 club Buffalo. He's reportedly also still open to signing with the Raiders, whom he visited last week.
Mar 21 - 1:50 PM

Free agent LB Zach Brown is scheduled to visit the Bills.

That is assuming he leaves his Dolphins visit without a deal. Brown played with the Bills last season, but he likely wants to get a good feel for the new coaching staff before making up his mind. Coming off a breakout season at age 27, Brown is the best linebacker left on the market.
Mar 21 - 10:52 AM

Free agent LB Zach Brown is expected to visit the Dolphins.

One of the top free agents left on the market, Brown has also visited the Raiders. He would be a great get for a Dolphins team looking to remake its linebacker corps. Miami already signed MLB Lawrence Timmons, which will likely shift Kiko Alonso to the weak side. Brown could play the SAM spot.
Mar 20 - 12:28 PM

Free agent LB Zach Brown is visiting the Raiders on Wednesday.

It's Brown's first visit of free agency. The former Titans second-rounder never panned out in Tennessee, but he had a big year in the Bills' 3-4 scheme in 2016, grading out as Pro Football Focus' No. 12 inside linebacker out of 59 qualifiers, receiving plus marks for both his run defense and coverage. The Raiders' 2016 starting inside 'backers, Perry Riley and Malcolm Smith, are both free agents, with Smith already signing with the 49ers. Brown is still just 27.

WGR 550 Buffalo believes the Bills will look to re-sign free agent ILB Zach Brown.

Brown and free agent Lorenzo Alexander are coming off huge seasons, but are questionable fits under new coach Sean McDermott. The Bills are also deep at linebacker and have one less starting spot moving to a 4-3 defense. Brown is a better investment than 33-year-old Alexander, but would likely have to move outside with Reggie Ragland returning from ACL surgery.

Bills ILB Zach Brown has been named AFC Defensive Player of the Week for Week 4.

An IDP maven, Brown leads the league in tackles, and piled up 18 of them last Sunday in a win over the Patriots. He also forced two fumbles, recorded a sack, and a pair of QB hits. Signed to a modest one-year, $1.25 million deal, Brown is Pro Football Focus' No. 1 inside linebacker after four weeks.

Bills ILB Zach Brown leads the league with 52 combined tackles through four games.

Brown had 18 and a sack against the Patriots in Week 4. With the Bills defense turning the corner in the last two weeks, Brown has developed into a quality asset in IDP formats. He should notch plenty of tackles again next week against the Rams.

Bills ILB Zach Brown is the favorite to start in place of Reggie Ragland (knee).

Brown was a full-time starter with Tennessee before losing his job last season. He's a downgrade from Ragland, but has always been solid in coverage. Brandon Spikes will push Brown for run game snaps.

Bills ILB Zach Brown is a candidate to start with Reggie Ragland (knee) out for the season.

Preston Brown is locked into one of the starting spots, but the other job is up for grabs. Zach Brown would seem to have the inside track, but newly-signed veterans David Hawthorne and Brandon Spikes could push him. Already a weak spot before Ragland went down, the Bills need someone to step up at linebacker.

Speaking Monday, Bills coach Rex Ryan confirmed free agent addition Zach Brown is currently the team's starter at weak-side linebacker.

In typically colorful Ryan language, he also said Brown is the backup because "there's nobody else there." That's not entirely true, as Preston Brown is an option. Brown could also face competition in the form of a draft pick.
