Despite a slow start, Titans LB Zach Brown is set to break out, and soon.
The underwhelming performances from Titans defensive players to date have been a product of low snaps counts through the first two weeks. The blowout victory over the Buccaneers in Week 1 saw all starters benched in the fourth quarter, while the Titans only played 49 defensive snaps in Week 2. Brown has played just 102 snaps in two games. By comparison Steelers ILB Lawrence Timmons played 90 snaps last week alone. Our resident IDP Maven, Ross Miles, assures us that a big day for Brown is just round the corner. Sat, Sep 26, 2015 06:27:00 AM

ESPN Titans reporter Paul Kuharsky expects ILB Zach Brown to start in 2015.

Brown was expected to have a big role last season, but he tore his pectoral four snaps into the season and spent the year on injured reserve. Now healthy, Brown should be able to unseat Wesley Woodyard as the starter opposite Avery Williamson in the Titans' 3-4 scheme. With Derrick Morgan back and Brian Orakpo in town, the Titans should have a dramatically improved front seven.

Titans coach Ken Whisenhunt believes ILB Zach Brown "has a chance to be really good" in DC Ray Horton's defense.

Brown tore his pectoral in Week 1. Whisenhunt seems to view him as a potential building block, and the Nashville Tennessean suggests Brown could overtake Wesley Woodyard as a 2015 starter, playing next to Avery Williamson in Horton's 3-4. "(His injury) was, needless to say, a big blow for us," said Whiz. "But (his return) is also one of the things we're excited about moving forward."

Titans ILB Zach Brown (torn pectoral) underwent surgery on Wednesday.

He'll be placed on injured reserve, ending his season. Zaviar Gooden and Wesley Woodyard will replace Brown on the inside. Brown is signed through 2015, where he'll make $916K.

The Titans confirmed Monday that ILB Zach Brown has a torn pectoral muscle.

He'll probably be placed on year-ending injured reserve shortly. The Titans have athletes to pick up the slack in Wesley Woodyard and Zaviar Gooden, but no one with Brown's size (244 pounds). Brown is signed through 2015.

Titans ILB Zach Brown may be done for the season with a torn pectoral.

At least that's the fear coming directly from Brown. Wesley Woodyard should be a tackle machine in the absence of Brown. The Titans will turn to athletic but undersized Zaviar Gooden at the other inside linebacker spot.

Titans ILB Zach Brown exited Sunday's opener with a shoulder injury.

Brown is Tennessee's starting inside linebacker next to Wesley Woodyard. The Titans are thin on the inside. Ruled out for the game at the start of the second half, Brown showed up on the sideline sporting a sling on his arm.

Titans ILB Zach Brown was benched for the first series of Saturday night's preseason opener for violating a team rule.

Zaviar Gooden started in Brown's place next to Wesley Woodyard. The Titans didn't elaborate on what Brown did wrong, but the third-year pro wasn't exactly in good graces with the previous coaching staff. He was benched down the stretch last season because of poor play. Brown is competing for the job next to Woodyard.

Titans LB Zach Brown opened camp as the starting inside 'backer next to Wesley Woodyard.

After being benched down the stretch last season, a new coaching staff and a new defense have given Brown a fresh start. He is a great fit at inside linebacker in new DC Ray Horton's defense, with the speed and athleticism to play sideline to sideline.

Zach Brown is expected to play inside linebacker in the Titans' new 3-4 defense.

It's an exceptional fit for Brown. He's a freak athlete who runs a sub-4.5 forty and plays sideline-to-sideline. After a rough end to last season where he was benched for inconsistent play and a poor attitude, Brown will get a fresh start under a new regime. Brown, Wesley Woodyard, and Zaviar Gooden are an extremely athletic, rangy trio of inside linebackers for Horton to get creative with.

Titans WLB Zach Brown was benched during the first quarter of Sunday's Week 15 loss to the Cardinals.

Brown gave up a 26-yard completion to Andre Ellington on the second series of the game and was strapped to the pine. Third-round rookie Zaviar Gooden has taken over.

Titans WLB Zach Brown is recovering from offseason shoulder surgery, but is expected to be ready for training camp.

Brown has been limited to individual drills in OTAs. A 2012 second-rounder, Brown started 14 games as a rookie, but was only serviceable in coverage while struggling against the run. He's locked into a starting role, but the Titans will be looking for him to take a step forward as a sophomore.

Titans second-round pick Zach Brown has been working at weak-side linebacker during OTAs.

Brown saw some first-team action on Thursday, but only because starter Will Witherspoon was excused. Titans coaches have been impressed with Brown's speed and ability to pick up the playbook, but he figures to take on a situational role during his rookie season. Gerald McRath is also in the mix for weak-side reps.

Titans agreed to terms with No. 52 pick LB Zach Brown on a four-year, $3.858 million contract.

Brown is perhaps the most athletic linebacker in this year's draft class, but has a reputation as an "avoid contact" player. A rangy 6-foot-1, 244 pounds to go along with 33 1/4-inch arms, Brown will compete with Will Witherspoon and Gerald McRath for a starting job at outside linebacker, but could be limited to passing downs as a rookie.
Mon, May 21, 2012 11:01:00 AM

NFL Network draft analyst Mike Mayock describes Titans second-round LB Zach Brown as player who is "somewhat allergic to contact."

Rotoworld's Josh Norris has nicknamed Brown "pillow hands," and NFL Films' Greg Cosell deemed him an "avoid-contact player." Brown runs like the wind, but he may max out as no better than a nickel 'backer, specializing in coverage. In training camp, Brown will battle Will Witherspoon and Gerald McRath to start.
