According to ESPN Stats and Information, the Bengals allowed 3.13 yards per carry with Brandon Thompson on the field last season.
When Thompson wasn't on the field, that number skyrocketed to 4.63 yards per attempt. The 25-year-old is a difference maker against the run but continues to be a liability on passing downs. Thompson saw 259 snaps last season and may have a tough time exceeding that with Geno Atkins and Domata Peko ahead of him on the depth chart. Jul 5 - 8:46 AM

Bengals signed third-round DT Brandon Thompson to a four-year contract.

The Bengals used two early picks on defensive tackles this year, securing Devon Still in the second round and Thompson in the third. They envision 6'2/315-pound Thompson as a squatty nose tackle type, backing up Domata Peko. Thompson figures to play sparingly as a rookie, rotating in when Peko needs a breather.

The Bengals are using third-round pick Brandon Thompson as Domata Peko's backup at 4-3 nose tackle.

The Bengals' website describes Thompson as a "hydrant of a nose tackle" with "no neck and all power," and lists him at 6-foot-2, 315. Thompson struggled to create penetration at Clemson, so the position switch looks like a good idea. It could also spell the end of incumbent backup NT Pat Sims' time in Cincy.

Bengals selected Clemson DT Brandon Thompson with the No. 93 overall pick in the 2012 NFL draft.

Thompson was a highly regarded player in the ACC, but he certainly didn't produce to his big-name value. He had 4.5 career sacks as a 38-game starter at Clemson. Thompson goes 6-foot-2, 311 and projects as a gap shooter in Cincy's 4-3 scheme. He will compete for playing time with second-round pick Devon Still and holdover Pat Sims behind starters Geno Atkins and Domata Peko.

Clemson DT Brandon Thompson ran an unofficial 5.0 forty in front of scouts at the Tigers' Thursday Pro Day.

Thompson was also timed at 5.12 on a separate attempt. He chose not to run the forty at the Combine but improved his broad jump to 9'7", which would have been 12th best in Indianapolis among DL participants. Thompson sat on his 35 bench reps. Widely regarded as the top defensive tackle prospect before his senior season, Thompson will be drafted in the late first to second round range.
