Bengals DT Brandon Thompson (knee) hopes to be ready for the start of the season.
Thompson is five months removed from a Week 17 torn ACL. He missed the entire spring and could open the season on reserve/PUP. Thompson will be in the mix for rotational snaps when healthy. Jun 25 - 2:58 PM

Bengals re-signed DT Brandon Thompson to a one-year contract.

Thompson is recovering from a torn ACL. He underwent surgery in January. A fringe NFL pass rusher, Thompson will probably begin the year on the reserve/PUP list.

Free agent DT Brandon Thompson is visiting the Seahawks on Monday.

This is the first reported visit for Thompson, who is extremely questionable for Week 1 after tearing his ACL in the season finale. He could be a cheap depth signing after the Seahawks lost Brandon Mebane to the Chargers in free agency.

Scott Reynolds of Pewter Report believes impending free agent DT Brandon Thompson could be a fit for the Buccaneers.

Thompson is familiar with new Bucs defensive line coach Jay Hayes, who coached Thompson for four years in Cincinnati. The 26-year-old should come relatively cheap after suffering a torn ACL in the Bengals' regular season finale. If Thompson does end up following Hayes to Tampa Bay, he would fight Clinton McDonald and Akeem Spence for playing time behind Gerald McCoy at DT.

Bengals free agent DT Brandon Thompson's knee injury is a torn right ACL.

Thompson suffered the injury in Week 17. Thompson played only 184 snaps this season after being on the field for 259 in 2014. Going on 27, Thompson won't get a chance to crack someone's 53-man roster until he proves he's back to full health. That probably won't be until some time in the middle of next season.
Jan 14 - 2:45 PM

Bengals placed DT Brandon Thompson on injured reserve with a knee injury, ending his season.

Thompson played above-average run defense last season, but with Geno Atkins back to full health and Thompson banged up, his snaps have been cut back in 2015. DT DeShawn Williams has been promoted from the practice squad.

According to ESPN Stats and Information, the Bengals allowed 3.13 yards per carry with Brandon Thompson on the field last season.

When Thompson wasn't on the field, that number skyrocketed to 4.63 yards per attempt. The 25-year-old is a difference maker against the run but continues to be a liability on passing downs. Thompson saw 259 snaps last season and may have a tough time exceeding that with Geno Atkins and Domata Peko ahead of him on the depth chart.

Bengals signed third-round DT Brandon Thompson to a four-year contract.

The Bengals used two early picks on defensive tackles this year, securing Devon Still in the second round and Thompson in the third. They envision 6'2/315-pound Thompson as a squatty nose tackle type, backing up Domata Peko. Thompson figures to play sparingly as a rookie, rotating in when Peko needs a breather.

The Bengals are using third-round pick Brandon Thompson as Domata Peko's backup at 4-3 nose tackle.

The Bengals' website describes Thompson as a "hydrant of a nose tackle" with "no neck and all power," and lists him at 6-foot-2, 315. Thompson struggled to create penetration at Clemson, so the position switch looks like a good idea. It could also spell the end of incumbent backup NT Pat Sims' time in Cincy.

Bengals selected Clemson DT Brandon Thompson with the No. 93 overall pick in the 2012 NFL draft.

Thompson was a highly regarded player in the ACC, but he certainly didn't produce to his big-name value. He had 4.5 career sacks as a 38-game starter at Clemson. Thompson goes 6-foot-2, 311 and projects as a gap shooter in Cincy's 4-3 scheme. He will compete for playing time with second-round pick Devon Still and holdover Pat Sims behind starters Geno Atkins and Domata Peko.

Clemson DT Brandon Thompson ran an unofficial 5.0 forty in front of scouts at the Tigers' Thursday Pro Day.

Thompson was also timed at 5.12 on a separate attempt. He chose not to run the forty at the Combine but improved his broad jump to 9'7", which would have been 12th best in Indianapolis among DL participants. Thompson sat on his 35 bench reps. Widely regarded as the top defensive tackle prospect before his senior season, Thompson will be drafted in the late first to second round range.
