Bengals signed No. 27 overall pick RG Kevin Zeitler to a four-year contract.
Viewed by NFL Films guru Greg Cosell as a more athletic and more complete guard prospect than Steelers first-rounder David DeCastro, Zeitler immediately stepped into the starting lineup at right guard in OTAs. A mauling run blocker, Zeitler should represent an upgrade on the declining Bobby Williams. Fri, May 25, 2012 01:13:00 PM

No. 21 pick OG Kevin Zeitler is working as the Bengals' first-team right guard at OTAs.

Coach Marvin Lewis previously said Zeitler will be given the "opportunity" to earn a starting job, but the odds are being stacked heavily in his favor. Barring an unexpectedly poor preseason, Zeitler will be Cincinnati's starting right guard.

The Bengals say they would have taken RG Kevin Zeitler at No. 21, even without trading down to the 27th spot.

In the process of trading down, Cincy acquired a third-round pick that turned out to be highly regarded DT Brandon Thompson. Teams aren't always 100 percent honest about draft boards and intentions after the draft -- they're more concerned with PR -- but it sure seems like a good deal if the Bengals are being honest. It also sounds like they had a higher grade on Zeitler than David DeCastro.

Coach Marvin Lewis confirmed that first-rounders OG Kevin Zeitler and CB Dre Kirkpatrick will have the opportunity to start as rookies.

A strong run blocker, Zeitler also went two years at Wisconsin without giving up a sack. He should be the favorite to start at right guard over Jacob Bell, Otis Hudson, and Clint Boling. With Nate Clements, Leon Hall, and several veteran options at corner, the Bengals can bring Kirkpatrick along more slowly.

Bengals selected Wisconsin OG Kevin Zeitler with the No. 27 overall pick in the 2012 NFL draft.

This is after a trade down with the Patriots. Zeitler is a true Wisconsin type offensive lineman, flourishing in the ground game with power to open up running lanes. He struggles a bit when he does not win initial contact, losing leverage and balance in the process. But, when Zeitler gets his hands in sound position and extends his arms in pass protection, he frequently controls the opposition. Zeitler is an instant starter for the Bengals front line.

According to SI's Peter King, there's a "lot of love" for Wisconsin OG Kevin Zeitler "low" in the first round.

Zeitler's stock has been solidifying late, and it now appears there's a real chance he'll go on day one. He's Rotoworld draft guru Josh Norris' fifth-ranked guard.

Wisconsin OG Kevin Zeitler reportedly scored a 33 on his Wonderlic Test at the February Scouting Combine.

We don't usually post individual linemen Wonderlic scores, but this was an opportunity to discuss Zeitler's seemingly rising draft stock. He's now thought to be getting some late first-round consideration. One draft evaluator described Zeitler as "a dependable, no-nonsense mauler," and he will appeal to man-blocking schemes as a power guard. Zeitler can also play center.
