Derek Carrier caught 4-of-4 targets for 39 yards in the Redskins' Week 6 loss to the Jets.

Replacing Jordan Reed the past two weeks, Carrier has seen target totals of 2 and 4, catching all but one of them. Carrier's efficiency has been impressive, but he still doesn't seem to be early in Kirk Cousins' progression reads. He'll stay on the low-end TE1 streamer radar in Week 7 against the Bucs.

Derek Carrier secured 2-of-3 targets for 27 yards and a touchdown in the Redskins' Week 5 loss to the Falcons.

Carrier was targeted once more by Kirk Cousins on a two-point-conversion try, but the pass was broken up. Carrier's seven-yard touchdown catch ensured he'd pay off for tight end streamers, but he was Cousins' third or fourth read on that play, and ultimately not a huge part of Washington's passing game. Cousins will remain a low-end streamer option when the Redskins face the Jets in Week 6.

The Redskins listed Derek Carrier as their No. 2 tight end on their unofficial depth chart.

Acquired from San Francisco just four days ago, Carrier's placement on the depth chart could be a testament to how highly the Redskins view the 25-year-old tight end. If he can pick up the offensive system quickly, it is not out of the question Carrier pushes Jordan Reed (hamstring) for snaps.
Aug 25 - 1:37 PM

Redskins acquired TE Derek Carrier from the 49ers for a conditional 2017 fifth-round pick.

The "conditions" are related to playing time and stats. Carrier just turned 25 years old and has absurd measurables, running 4.49 with a 40-inch vertical at 6-foot-3, 240 coming out of Beloit College in 2012. He probably should've played over both Vance McDonald and Vernon Davis last year, but wound up handling under 200 snaps. Carrier is a converted wide receiver who earned positive run and pass blocking grades from PFF in 2014. He gives Washington a No. 2 tight end following Niles Paul and Logan Paulsen's year-ending injuries. We wouldn't totally rule out the possibility of Carrier pushing always-injured Jordan Reed once he picks up Jay Gruden's system.
Aug 21 - 6:12 PM

CSN Bay Area's Matt Maiocco is "hearing" the 49ers are getting calls from teams interested in acquiring a tight end.

Derek Carrier and Asante Cleveland are the names Maiocco heard, but the 49ers could likely be convinced to part with Vance McDonald as well. With eight tight ends on the roster, San Francisco would probably like to move a couple before cutdowns begin. Though Maiocco does not mention any teams specifically, it is easy to project the Redskins as one of the interested parties.

49ers TE Derek Carrier is dealing with a right foot injury in OTAs, and is donning a protective boot.

Testing revealed no fractures, but it's still notable for a player who missed the final five games last season with a foot injury. Carrier signed a two-year extension in March. He caught nine passes across 11 games in 2014.
May 21 - 7:33 PM

49ers signed TE Derek Carrier to a two-year extension through 2017.

According to the Sacramento Bee, the deal is worth "as much as" $3.3 million. Carrier played 194 snaps across 11 games last season before landing on injured reserve with a foot issue. Going on 25, he has nine career catches.
Mar 9 - 1:22 PM

49ers placed TE Derek Carrier (foot) on injured reserve, ending his season.

Carrier will finish 2014 with nine catches for 105 yards, playing on 194 snaps across 11 games (one start). The 49ers added TEs Garrett Celek and Asante Cleveland in corresponding moves, and waived LB Chase Thomas.

Derek Carrier caught one pass for 10 yards in Sunday's Week 4 win over the Eagles.

Vernon Davis left early with a back injury and Vance McDonald was inactive. But as we saw last week, the 49ers have zero plays in the book for Carrier. He'd be a weak TE2 even if Davis sits next week.

Derek Carrier caught 1-of-2 targets for 23 yards in San Francisco's Week 3 loss to the Cardinals.

Carrier's catch came on the 49ers' opening drive. He drew his only other target in the third quarter. Carrier seemed poised to have a nice day against a Cardinals' defense that can't defend tight ends, but Stevie Johnson picked up the bulk of Vernon Davis' lost looks instead. If you added Carrier in a non-daily league, he can be safely dropped.

CSN Bay Area reports 49ers TE Derek Carrier is expected to start in Week 3 against the Cardinals.

Vernon Davis (ankle) and Vance McDonald (knee) remain questionable, but seem likely to be held out after the 49ers promoted TE Asante Cleveland from the practice squad. Carrier had 41 yards on three catches filling in last week and is worth a look as a streaming option.

49ers TE Derek Carrier may be poised for significant playing time in Week 3 at Arizona due to injuries to Vernon Davis (ankle) and Vance McDonald (knee).

Carrier came off the bench in last Sunday night's loss to Chicago, turning four targets into 41 yards on three catches. The former Beloit (WI) college basketball player and track star runs 4.5-flat at 6-foot-3, 238 pounds with a 38-inch vertical. In an ideal matchup against a Cardinals defense that hemorrhages fantasy points to tight ends, Carrier is on the Week 3 streamer radar.

Eagles waived TE Derek Carrier, DE Eddie McClam, WR Nick Miller, OT Nic Purcell, OL Isaac Remington, TE Will Shaw, DT Daryell Walker, LS James Winchester, and P Brad Wing.

They also waived/injured S Eddie Whitley after a preseason injury. Donnie Jones beat out Wing to be Chip Kelly's punter. Carrier is an excellent athlete, but never made headway up a deep tight end depth chart in Philly.

The Raiders, Broncos, and Seahawks have shown interest in Beloit WR Derek Carrier.

The three-sport (basketball, track) star clocked a 4.49 forty while posting a 40-inch vertical at 6'3/238 in what was described as a "great workout" at his pro day. He was also productive last season with 75 catches and 12 TDs. Although the competition was weak and Carrier often plays stiff, he's in line to become the first Beloit player to be drafted into the NFL since the 1950s.
