Eagles LE Vinny Curry (questionable, knee) is expected to play Sunday.
"We expect him to be available and play in this game," HC Doug Pederson said. Curry practiced fully on Friday after being limited early in the week. The Eagles DST is a solid streaming option against Cleveland. Sep 10 - 3:11 PM

In a radio interview, new Eagles DC Jim Schwartz said he will "cut the handcuffs off" LE Vinny Curry.

"There are some guys that really fit in the defense here last year. I think he was one guy who wasn’t a great fit," Schwartz said. "I think we can cut the handcuffs off of him, so to speak, and cut him loose along with the other guys up front." Despite playing limited snaps in a scheme which did not fit him, Curry recorded 16.5 sacks over the last three seasons. He is a breakout candidate in Schwartz's edge-rusher-friendly Wide 9 scheme.

Eagles signed DE Vinny Curry to a five-year, $47.25 million contract through 2020.

The deal includes $23 million guaranteed, $10 million of which appears to be coming immediately as a signing bonus. It's in line with what beat writer Geoff Mosher predicted last week. Curry has never started a game since being the No. 59 overall pick of the 2012 draft — seriously — but has 16.5 sacks over the past three years. He generated consistent pressure on 426 snaps in 2015. His playing time should spike dramatically next season. The Eagles are hoping the same is true of his sack totals. The Eagles have set about locking up all their in-house free agents since firing coach Chip Kelly.
Feb 2 - 6:54 PM

CSN Philly's Geoff Mosher believes Vikings RE Everson Griffen's five-year, $42.5 million contract is a "good model" for impending free agent DE Vinny Curry.

When Griffen signed his deal after the 2013 season, he had only started one career game, but tallied 17.5 sacks over the previous three seasons as a sub-package rusher. Curry is in the same boat. He's never started a game, but has 16.5 sacks over the past three seasons and projects to be a perfect fit for new DC Jim Schwartz's defense. Curry is going to get paid handsomely.

The Philly Voice's Jimmy Kempski reports re-signing impending free agent DE Vinny Curry is the Eagles' "top immediate priority."

Curry was not a good fit in the 3-4 scheme ex-coach Chip Kelly prefers, but he is a great fit as a defensive end in new-DC Jim Schwartz's "Wide 9" defense. Despite playing limited snaps, Curry has 16.5 sacks over the last three seasons and is arguably the best pass rusher on the roster. He will be a breakout candidate if he sticks in Philadelphia.
Jan 26 - 10:16 AM

The Eagles have already made a contract offer to impending free agent DE Vinny Curry.

According to beat writer Eliot Shorr-Parks, re-signing Curry is a priority for the Eagles. Curry was a misfit in ex-DC Billy Davis' 3-4 scheme but still managed 16.5 sacks over the past three seasons as a sub-package rusher. He projects as a perfect fit for new DC Jim Schwartz's "Wide 9" front, and if re-signed, Curry would be a darkhorse to lead the team in sacks.

Eagles DE Vinny Curry is getting reps at outside linebacker.

He took snaps at outside linebacker in the Eagles' joint practices with the Ravens and should see some work there in the second preseason game. With Marcus Smith (hamstring) down at least a couple weeks, Curry's transition has taken on extra importance. Curry had nine sacks in 397 snaps last season.

Coach Chip Kelly mentioned he wanted to expand DE Vinny Curry's role.

A rarity, Curry is an Andy Reid holdover who has managed to stick around this long under Kelly. Curry played 397 snaps last season and graded out as a top-nine pass rusher among 3-4 defensive ends at Pro Football Focus. A bit undersized for the position at 6'3/279, the Eagles are giving Curry a look at outside linebacker this spring. He should be a fixture in sub-packages.

Philly Voice's Jimmy Kempski believes Eagles DE Vinny Curry could be had via trade.

Curry, the 59th pick in the 2012 draft, is an imperfect fit in the Eagles' 3-4 scheme after being drafted as a pure 4-3 end by the Andy Reid regime. He played 397 snaps last season in sub-packages, receiving positive marks for his pass-rush push. Curry managed 34 combined pressures. Entering the final year of his rookie contract, Curry could probably be had for a mid-to-late-rounder.

Eagles DE Vinny Curry took some snaps with the first-team defense in Friday night's second preseason game.

"That was a big thing for us," said coach Chip Kelly. "We wanted to get Vinny in with the ones and see how productive he could be." Curry is not a great fit in the Eagles' 3-4 scheme, but he has the ability to provide the pass rush Philadelphia has been desperate for. The Eagles only generated 37 sacks in 2013, and have struggled to get pressure on the quarterback this preseason.

Beat writer Sheil Kapadia sensed that the coaching staff doesn't see Vinny Curry as a great fit.

Remember that the Eagles reportedly fielded calls on Curry at last year's trading deadline. It's very possible that he'll be available again ahead of the draft, and some 4-3 teams should come calling. Curry is under contract cheaply through 2015, is just 25 years old and has produced when given opportunities. He posted four sacks and 22 quarterback hurries on just 337 snaps in 2013.

The Eagles are reportedly fielding trade calls on DE Vinny Curry.

Teams are reaching out to the Eagles because they've seen how DC Billy Davis has underutilized the 2012 second-round pick. In just 102 snaps this year, Curry has two sacks and nine quarterback hurries. The Eagles would be wise to get him on the field more, not trade him away.

Eagles DE Vinny Curry is active for Week 3 against the Chiefs.

The oft-discussed former second-round pick had been a healthy scratch for the Eagles' first two games. Inactive for the Eagles are QB Matt Barkley, TE Emil Igwenagu, OT Dennis Kelly, OG Matt Tobin, CB Roc Carmichael, CB Jordan Poyer and DL Damion Square.

Eagles declared DE Vinny Curry, QB Matt Barkley, TE Emil Igwenagu, OT Dennis Kelly, OG Matt Tobin and CB Shaun Prater inactive for Week 1 against the Redskins.

Curry's deactivation comes after he spent much of camp with the second- and third-team defenses. Barkley could be inactive all 16 games this season depending on the health of Michael Vick.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reports the Eagles will use Vinny Curry strictly at defensive end.

With the Eagles moving to a 3-4 defense, Curry added weight this offseason and is not expected to be asked to play outside linebacker. "Vinny was drafted here as a defensive lineman," position coach Jeff Azzinaro said. "That's what he's doing. He's playing defensive end."
