Broncos GM John Elway said the team plans to retain DE Derek Wolfe.
Set to count $10.8 million against the cap and dealing with chronic neck issues, there were rumors Wolfe would be released. The defensive end said a late-season surgery worked wonders for his troublesome neck, however, and the Broncos are thin enough along the defensive line without cutting their best option. A healthy 16 games from Wolfe would go a long way in helping Denver bounce back in 2018. Mar 1 - 9:53 AM

Broncos DE Derek Wolfe said his neck is "fixed."

Wolfe has dealt with nerve pain since the 2013 season and finished last year on injured reserve. The Foraminotomy procedure he underwent after landing on IR seems to have completely fixed the issue, however. "I can turn my head like an owl. It’s crazy. I can look all the way behind me. It’s insane," Wolfe told 9 News. "I feel so much better." Wolfe admits he still has work to do to get back to full strength, but it sounds like he will at worst be ready for training camp.

Broncos placed DE Derek Wolfe on injured reserve with a neck injury, ending his season.

Wolfe has been feeling numbness in his neck for much of the season. Amazingly, he missed only one game. Wolfe does not need surgery, but months of rest and rehab. Unsurprisingly, Wolfe was having a down year, tallying just two sacks while grading out as a replacement-level player in Pro Football Focus' ratings. Wolfe is signed through 2019 in Denver.

Mike Klis of 9 News Denver reports Broncos DE Derek Wolfe (neck) will likely be placed on injured reserve.

Wolfe was told his neck injury will not require surgery, but he will need to rest for a couple months. "As much as I’d like to get back out there and keep playing," Wolfe said, "when a spinal doctor tells you that you can lose use of your right arm if you don’t rest and heal properly, you listen." Losing Wolfe is yet another blow to a crumbling defense. On the bright side, it sounds like he will be ready for the offseason program.

Broncos LE Derek Wolfe (neck) has been ruled out for Week 13.

It's a huge loss in combination with NT Domata Peko's (MCL) absence, and a significant upgrade to Kenyan Drake's matchup. With Damien Williams (shoulder) on the shelf, Drake has a real chance at 20 touches in an increasingly favorable draw.

Broncos DE Derek Wolfe (neck) said he has experienced numbness in his face, arms, and legs over the last two weeks.

Wolfe suffered a neck injury Week 11 against the Bengals which was aggravated in last week's loss to the Raiders. "A stinger is a stinger, but when your face is going numb and then your quad is going numb, that’s when you have to make sure," Wolfe said. "There’s not like one real answer to give right now because we need to run some more tests to really figure out what’s causing the numbness." Wolfe was hospitalized after he attempted to play through a neck injury in 2013 and said he is not going to make the same mistake again this time. Wolfe was not at practice Wednesday.

Derek Wolfe suffered an injury in the second quarter and came out of the game on Monday, but returned a few minutes later in real time.

He was able to walk off the field under his own power, so it didn't look bad. Wolfe missed some time in practice last week and he was about 75 percent healthy in training camp. He should be all set for Week 2 against the Cowboys.

Broncos LE Derek Wolfe (ankle) has resumed practicing.

Wolfe recently estimated he was at "75-80 percent" health, but he'll be active for next Monday's opener against the Chargers. His practice reps figure to be limited early in the season. It's a bad note to start the season on after Wolfe spent much of 2016 battling injury.

Broncos LE Derek Wolfe (ankle) said he is "about 75, probably 80 percent" healthy.

Wolfe suffered a serious ankle sprain early in camp. He expects to be ready for the season opener in a little over a week, but he may not be back to full health. DE Jared Crick (back) is also expected back for Week 1.

Broncos LE Derek Wolfe (ankle) is expected to be ready for Week 1.

Wolfe was carted off with a "moderate" sprain in Denver's Aug. 12 practice. The Broncos' opener will be nearly a month to the day Wolfe went down. Plagued by injury last season, Wolfe missed two games, and was limited for many others.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Broncos DE Derek Wolfe's ankle injury is "just a moderate sprain."

This confirms previous reports. Wolfe is unlikely to play in Denver's second preseason game, but should be fine for Week 1.

9 News Denver's Mike Klis reports Derek Wolfe has an ankle injury, but it is "not as serious as it first appeared."

ESPN's Josina Anderson reports it is "just an ankle sprain." Broncos fans can let out a sigh of relief after Wolfe was carted off the field Saturday morning with what was thought to be a "serious injury". That said, Wolfe is not completely out of the woods yet. We will know more in the coming days about the severity of his injury.

Broncos DE Derek Wolfe was carted off the field with a right leg injury during Saturday's practice.

9 News Denver's Mike Klis reports the injury "appears to be serious." If Wolfe is forced to miss an extended period, it would be another blow to a defense which lost DL Billy Winn for the season on Friday. Wolfe recorded 5.5 sacks in 14 games last year and is a big part of the Broncos' pass-rush.
Sat, Aug 12, 2017 12:16:00 PM

Broncos LE Derek Wolfe (neck) is out for Week 17 against the Raiders.

With Denver eliminated, there's no reason for Wolfe to play through a neck injury that's been bothering him for weeks. T.J. Ward (concussion) has also been ruled out for Sunday's finale.
Fri, Dec 30, 2016 02:23:00 PM

Speaking Monday, Broncos coach Gary Kubiak said LE Derek Wolfe's late-season neck injury is "different" than the one that bothered him earlier in the year.

Wolfe was surprisingly active for Sunday's game against the Chiefs, but with the Broncos now eliminated from playoff contention, he could be held out for Week 17. Wolfe has matched his 2015 sack total with 5.5 through 14 games.
