Lions re-signed SS Tavon Wilson to a two-year, $7 million contract.
Wilson ended a bit of a down season on injured reserve because of a shoulder issue, but he has proven to be a quality option at safety. Getting him for just $7 million over two years is good business. Wilson should have the inside track for the starting job opposite Glover Quin. Mar 13 - 10:23 AM

Lions SS Tavon Wilson will undergo season-ending shoulder surgery.

Wilson injured his shoulder for the third time this year against the Vikings on Thanksgiving, and this one will require an operation. With Wilson out, fourth-round sophomore Miles Killebrew should take over at strong safety.

Lions SS Tavon Wilson was forced from Thursday's game against the Vikings with a left shoulder injury.

Wilson was officially listed as "doubtful," but will not return. It's an aggravation of an issue Wilson has been playing through for much of the season. Miles Killebrew is finishing the game in Wilson's place.

Lions S Tavon Wilson is being sued for allegedly punching his ex-girlfriend in the face.

The alleged assault took place at a nightclub in May 2016, but Wilson completely denies he is the attacker. Wilson's lawyer says, "There's video of the incident that shows Ms. Leach [Wilson's current girlfriend] is attacked. Mr. Wilson is a witness, Ms. Leach is the victim, and Ms. Jackson [Wilson's ex-girlfriend] is the defendant... Her civil claim is meritless." A police report was filed at the time of the incident, but it was Ms. Jackson who was arrested, and not Wilson or Ms. Leach.

Lions S Tavon Wilson suffered a neck injury Week 3 against the Packers.

He was ruled out after halftime. Aaron Rodgers has shredded the Lions early. This injury will not help.

Tavon Wilson is listed as the Lions' starting strong safety.

It means the ex-Patriot has beaten out Rafael Bush to start opposite Glover Quin. The 2012 second-rounder played only 83 snaps in New England last season. It's a potential trouble spot for the Lions' defense.

Lions signed S Tavon Wilson, formerly of the Patriots, to a two-year, $2.2 million contract.

Wilson played all of 83 snaps last year in the Patriots' crowded secondary. The Lions are thin at safety with Isa Abdul-Quddus and James Ihedigbo both gone and could make use of Wilson's versatility.

Impending free agent S Tavon Wilson will not re-sign with the Patriots before the start of free agency.

Wilson hasn't closed the door on returning to New England though his best bet for playing time is probably elsewhere. He saw just 83 snaps last year behind starters Patrick Chung and Devin McCourty. Wilson may interest teams with his versatility. He can play both safety positions or slot corner.

Patriots 2012 second-round pick Tavon Wilson is in danger of losing his roster spot.

A huge surprise at the 48th pick three drafts ago, Wilson's snap percentage was slashed from 42.5 as a rookie to 1.6 last year. Wilson does have special teams value, which could eventually secure his spot on the 53. On defense, he's behind Devin McCourty and Duron Harmon, with rookie Jemea Thomas applying heat.

ESPN Boston's Field Yates believes third-year S Tavon Wilson has hit his ceiling as a "core special teams player."

Yates, who formally worked in the Patriots' scouting department, believes Wilson "doesn't have the requisite reactive athleticism" to function as a deep safety. Widely considered a reach when the Pats selected him 48th overall in 2012, Wilson has proved just that. He earned 22 snaps on defense in 2013.

Last year's second-round pick S Tavon Wilson has been "mostly invisible" during Patriots training camp.

Wilson started four games and played 500 snaps on defense last season, but he's behind Devin McCourty, Adrian Wilson, Duron Harmon, and Steve Gregory in the safety rotation this summer. Beat writer Ben Volin thinks Wilson's roster spot is secure, but he likely won't see the field as much as he did as a rookie.

Patriots added S Tavon Wilson (ankle) to the Week 11 injury report and listed him as probable.

After being considered a reach as a second-round pick out of Illinois in April's NFL Draft, Wilson has put together a fine rookie campaign with 30 tackles and three interceptions. He's the third or fourth safety in New England.

Two NFL personnel executives told The Sideline View's Adam Caplan that they assigned pre-draft third-day grades to Patriots second-round S Tavon Wilson.

The execs insisted Wilson "should have been selected farther down in the draft," based on the fact that he "doesn't possess any outstanding qualities." Per Caplan, the Wilson pick was "largely criticized" in the NFL scouting community. Wilson will compete for playing time with FS Steve Gregory this season.

Patriots signed rookie FS Tavon Wilson, the No. 48 overall pick, to a four-year, $4.217 million contract.

He got a $1.507 million signing bonus. Hardly known by draftniks and pre-draft all-star game directors alike, Wilson was one of this year's most surprising early-round selections. He does draw high marks for versatility and playmaking ability and runs in the low-4.5s at 6-foot, 205. Wilson is expected to battle Steve Gregory for the starting free safety job in training camp.

According to SI's Tony Pauline, "few teams" considered Patriots second-round FS Tavon Wilson draftable leading up to Friday.

Wilson wasn't invited to any pre-draft all-star games of note, and draft prognosticators were shocked when he went to New England with the 48th overall pick. Wilson has solid measurables, though, at 6-foot, 205 with 4.53 wheels. He played both cornerback and safety at Illinois, which undoubtedly caught Bill Belichick's attention. Wilson will compete to start as a rookie.
