Date:

Cowboys DE Tyrone Crawford (ankle) is expected to play Week 1.

Crawford had to be carted off the field early in camp, but it ended up just being a sprain. "He's ready," Jerry Jones said. "He'll play Sunday night." Crawford recorded 4.5 sacks last season.
Sep 5 - 10:25 AM

Cowboys LE Tyrone Crawford suffered a "lateral" ankle sprain in Tuesday's practice and is week to week.

Crawford stepped on the back of Ezekiel Elliott's foot in a live drill and rolled his ankle badly, needing a cart to take him off the field. The initial fear was a fracture, but Crawford is only expected to be down for the next few weeks and has a chance to play Week 1. Crawford is more of an edge-setter against the run.

Cowboys LE Tyrone Crawford (shoulder) is questionable for OTAs.

Crawford is still regaining strength in his surgically-repaired shoulder. The Cowboys haven't put a timetable on his return, but he's expected to be cleared for training camp. Crawford could see more snaps inside this year given his pass rush struggles. He's entering the third season of a six-year, $45.675 million deal.
Mar 18 - 3:07 PM

Cowboys LE Tyrone Crawford underwent shoulder surgery on Thursday.

Crawford underwent surgery to repair a torn right rotator cuff last year, but this operation was to his left. The extent of the surgery and timeline for recovery are unclear. Playing in the second season of a six-year, $45.675 million deal, Crawford had a disappointing 2016, battling injury and failing to generate consistent pressure. He was benched for David Irving in the playoffs. Releasing Crawford would leave behind $10.4 million in dead money and create very little cap relief, so it's unlikely. Crawford turned 27 in November.

Cowboys DE Tyrone Crawford will not play this week due to a concussion.

Crawford suffered the injury in Sunday's practice. While his Week 1 status is likely not in question, the Cowboys cannot afford to lose any more bodies on their defensive line.

Cowboys DL Tyrone Crawford underwent an MRI on his back Sunday.

The Cowboys are taking the injury "day by day," which isn't the same thing as saying Crawford is day to day. The 'Boys can ill afford a serious injury to a defensive line that's been hollowed out by suspensions.

Cowboys DL Tyrone Crawford is willing to move to defensive end if the team asks him to, but would prefer to stay at defensive tackle.

Randy Gregory and DeMarcus Lawrence are suspended, while third-round pick Maliek Collins is recovering from a broken foot. "It's two different animals," said Crawford. "Under tackle is what I love and what I want to keep working to be great at." Crawford tallied a career-high five sacks and 35 tackles across 16 games last season. He would likely play defensive end on base downs -- around 30 percent of the plays -- and kick back inside in "sub."

Cowboys DL Tyrone Crawford said "it's definitely a possibility" he is asked to play defensive end.

With Randy Gregory and DeMarcus Lawrence suspended the first four games, Dallas will look to mix and match along the defensive line. Crawford started his career at defensive end, but his best seasons have come as an interior rusher. Even if he is asked to dabble at end early in the season, Crawford's primary position will remain at tackle.

Cowboys converted $5.5 million of DT Tyrone Crawford's base salary into a bonus.

The move creates $4.39 million in cap space. Crawford struggled through a torn rotator cuff in the first year of a five-year, $45 million extension. He underwent surgery to repair the shoulder in January. He should be ready for training camp.

Cowboys DT Tyrone Crawford underwent surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff in his right shoulder on Thursday.

Crawford suffered the injury in Week 2 but didn't miss a game. He played through it, but his level of play fell off after a breakout 2014 season. Crawford was a productive pass rusher with five sacks and 37 combined hits and hurries, but he was washed out as a run defender on a regular basis. Getting back to full health should do him well. He's signed through 2020.

Cowboys signed DT Tyrone Crawford to a five-year, $45 million extension.

Crawford was set to make $675,000 in the final year of his rookie deal. The extension includes $25.7 million guaranteed and makes him one of the highest paid 4-3 defensive tackles. Crawford had a breakout 2014 in DC Rod Marinelli's scheme, posting 29 hurries, three sacks, and grading out positively against the run by PFF. Crawford is locked up through 2020, his age-30 season.

Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said "sky is the limit" for fourth-year DT Tyrone Crawford.

PFF echoed that sentiment by calling Crawford "a secret superstar." After missing 2013 with a torn Achilles', Crawford emerged as a solid three technique last year in Rod Marinelli's 4-3 scheme. He made his presence felt as a pass-rusher by pressuring the quarterback 29 times. With Crawford entering a contract year, Jerry Jones will have to open up his checkbook to keep the talented 25-year-old in Dallas.

The Dallas Morning News expects Cowboys DT Tyrone Crawford to earn "a big pay day."

Crawford is entering the final year of his rookie deal and coming off a breakout 2014 season after seeing his 2013 campaign lost to a torn Achilles'. A 'tweener to begin his career, Crawford settled in as the Cowboys' starting three-technique and graded out as PFF's No. 13 defensive tackle. He racked up 45 combined sacks, hits, and hurries and should see an uptick in snaps this year.
