Lions signed OT Lamar Holmes to a reserve/future contract.
Holmes was a third-round pick by the Falcons in 2012 and made 19 starts for the team before suffering a season-ending broken foot in Week 4 of 2014. He never played another down for Atlanta before being released with an injury settlement back in December. Holmes will compete for a backup job in Detroit. Feb 12 - 12:29 PM

Falcons released OT Lamar Holmes with an injury settlement.

Holmes spent the first 12 weeks on reserve/PUP. He was never a good fit in OC Kyle Shanahan’s zone scheme. 26-year-old Holmes should resurface with a power-blocking team.

Falcons placed OT Lamar Holmes on the reserve/PUP list.

He'll be ineligible to play until Week 7. Holmes was a major disappointment in Atlanta before his foot injuries, and never looked like a good fit for new OC Kyle Shanahan's zone scheme. Holmes' Falcons future is uncertain.

Falcons OT Lamar Holmes (foot) remains on crutches.

He's beginning camp on the PUP list. One of the league's least-effective tackles the past few seasons, Holmes is fighting for swing duties behind LT Jake Matthews and RT Tyler Polumbus. His roster spot is far from assured.

Falcons OT Lamar Holmes is out indefinitely with a broken foot.

Holmes had been lining up as the first-team left tackle in Jake Matthews' (foot) absence and as the second-string right tackle behind veteran Tyler Polumbus. Schematically, Holmes projected as a poor fit in OC Kyle Shanahan's zone-blocking offense before the injury and now faces an uphill battle.

Falcons RT Lamar Holmes dropped 20 pounds over the offseason.

In new OC Kyle Shanahan's zone-blocking scheme, Holmes had to lose the weight if he wants to fit. Linemen need to be able to get upfield and move in the new system, and Holmes didn't have much of a chance at his previous weight of 333. Still, Holmes has been an extreme weak spot on Atlanta's line the past couple seasons when he's played. He's competing for a roster spot.

Falcons placed RT Lamar Holmes on injured reserve with a foot injury, ending his season.

With C Joe Hawley (knee) also headed to injured reserve, the Falcons have promoted OG Harland Gunn and S Sean Baker from the practice squad. Forced into 19 starts over the past two seasons, Holmes has been a swinging gate on Matt Ryan's right side, but his loss leaves the Falcons with serious depth issues along the offensive line. Free agent signee Cameron Bradfield could take Holmes' place in the starting lineup, though Gabe Carimi is the most likely candidate. 25 years old, Holmes is heading into the final year of his rookie contract. Although he's due just $660,000, there's no guarantee he'll be back.

Falcons RT Lamar Holmes exited Atlanta's Week 4 game against the Vikings with a foot injury.

The Falcons have lost three offensive linemen in this one: Holmes, C Joe Hawley, and LG Justin Blalock. TE Levine Toilolo is now forced to play right tackle.

Falcons OT Lamar Holmes projects as a backup this season.

The Falcons spent last offseason talking up Holmes as a potential Pro Bowler at right tackle. He ended up benched at times and finished 75th among 76 qualifying tackles in PFF's grades. The Falcons desperately need to draft offensive line help as they try to rehab their running game and keep Matt Ryan upright. Ryan was sacked 44 times last season, tied for third-most in the league.

Falcons RT Lamar Holmes was benched in favor of Jeremy Trueblood in Sunday's Week 4 loss to the Patriots.

Holmes was one of the league's worst tackles through the first three weeks, giving up 15 quarterback hurries. He ended up playing the vast majority of Sunday night's loss anyway because LT Sam Baker sustained a knee injury in the second quarter. The Falcons' offensive line is in shambles.

Lamar Holmes has won the Falcons' starting right tackle job.

Holmes was competing with UDFA Ryan Schraeder for the spot. Schraeder will be the swing tackle, while Holmes, last year's third-round pick, will fill the shoes of Mike Johnson, who was lost for the season due to a broken leg and dislocated ankle. Out of 157 tackles graded by Pro Football Focus this preseason, Holmes was the fourth-worst. He was especially poor as a run blocker.

Updating a previous item, 2012 third-round pick Lamar Holmes is expected to open training camp as a backup.

The first-team line will be, from left to right, LT Sam Baker, LG Justin Blalock, C Peter Konz, RG Garrett Reynolds, and RT Mike Johnson. Holmes was initially viewed as Tyson Clabo's heir apparent, but may not have had a standout spring. Johnson offers more experience, though he's largely struggled in past spot appearances. The O-Line is not a strength of Atlanta's offense.

The Falcons' official website confirms Lamar Holmes is penciled in as the new starting right tackle.

A 6'6/323 second-year player out of Southern Miss, Holmes saw just seven snaps as a rookie. But the Falcons are apparently comfortable enough with him to release long-time starting right tackle Tyson Clabo. Holmes' only competition will come from jumbo tight end Mike Johnson and a possible draft pick. The Falcons will be breaking in a new center and right tackle this season.

Falcons OT Lamar Holmes (toe) and SLB Stephen Nicholas (knee) have been cleared for training camp.

Holmes, a third-round rookie, missed offseason practices with fractured toes in his left foot. Nicholas hadn't practiced since December, missing the playoff loss to the Giants.

Falcons third-round OT Lamar Holmes (toe) will be held out until the start of training camp.

Holmes is walking without a boot already, so this sounds like a precaution. The No. 91 overall pick projects as a swing tackle for the Falcons.
