Redskins ILB Keenan Robinson is expected to compete for an expanded role on defense in training camp.

Robinson, a fourth-round pick out of Texas, appeared in 11 games as a rookie but had his season cut short due to a torn right pectoral that required surgery. He played mainly special teams and just 69 snaps on defense, recording 11 tackles. Washington has four linebackers scheduled for free agency in addition to London Fletcher, who has yet to commit to a 16th season.

Redskins placed ILB Keenan Robinson on injured reserve with a torn right pectoral, ending his season.

Robinson suffered the injury in Washington's Thanksgiving victory. The Redskins' fourth-round pick, Robinson had appeared in all 11 games this season, but played only 69 snaps on defense. He should be ready for training camp.

Redskins fear rookie ILB Keenan Robinson will be out for the season with torn right pectoral muscle.

Robinson will have an MRI on Monday to confirm whether the severity of the injury he suffered in the fourth quarter of Thursday's win over the Cowboys. "Right now it doesn’t look good," coach Mike Shanahan said. Robinson played mainly on special teams this season, but he was starting to see increased playing time on defense, getting on the field for 19 defensive snaps in each of the last two games.

The Redskins reportedly view fourth-round pick Keenan Robinson as London Fletcher's heir apparent at inside linebacker.

Robinson can run sideline to sideline and cover tight ends, and he'll be a big part of Washington's nickel package as a rookie. Long term, he could book end Perry Riley inside. Robinson will also be a special teamer in year one.

Redskins signed fourth-round ILB Keenan Robinson to a four-year contract.

Robinson is transitioning from college 4-3 weak-side linebacker to an inside 'backer in an NFL 3-4, though he won't be playing in Washington's base defense as a rookie. With long arms and cover skills, he could earn a role quickly in Jim Haslett's nickel package, though. Robinson will also run down kickoffs.

Defensive coordinator Jim Haslett confirmed that fourth-round pick Keenan Robinson will play inside linebacker in Washington's 3-4.

Robinson was a weak-side linebacker in Texas' 4-3. Not a pass rusher, though, Robinson will compete for a nickel 'backer role as a rookie, as he possesses length and speed to cover tight ends and bigger slot receivers. Robinson is not expected to threaten for Perry Riley or London Fletcher's starting jobs.

Redskins selected Texas LB Keenan Robinson with the No. 119 overall pick in the 2012 NFL draft.

A large framed weak-side linebacker in Texas' 4-3, Robinson has adequate speed to make tackles on the outside and strength to take on blocks at the second level. However, he does not fight over those blocks very well and consistently makes the wrong read on misdirection runs. With 85 tackles and six pass deflections as a senior, Robinson also flashed zone coverage ability.
