Rhett Ellison nabbed all three of his targets for 20 yards Friday in the Giants’ preseason loss to the Steelers.
He and first-round rookie Evan Engram were on the field roughly the same amount, though Ellison showed a stronger rapport with quarterback Josh Johnson. All of his catches came on check-downs and screen passes as the Giants were unable to establish anything in the deep passing game. Ellison will catch a few passes here and there but ultimately he’ll be more of a blocking tight end for the G-Men. Aug 11 - 10:08 PM

Giants TE Rhett Ellison (calf) is expected to be ready for training camp.

Ellison sat out OTAs and minicamp. There's not much concern over his health status. Ellison’s contract should lock him into a blocking role in two tight end sets.
Jul 1 - 7:04 PM

Giants signed TE Rhett Ellison, formerly of the Vikings, to a four-year, $18 million contract with $8 million guaranteed.

Ellison logged 260 snaps for the Vikings last season, mostly seeing time as a blocker. Will Tye was an absolutely atrocious blocker for the Giants last year, so Ellison should help in that respect. The G-Men needed some depth at tight end after letting Larry Donnell walk in free agency.
Mar 9 - 4:10 PM

Vikings activated TE Rhett Ellison (knee) off the active/PUP list.

It is a miraculous recovery for Ellison, who tore his patellar tendon in January. He might not be ready for Week 1, but removing him from the PUP suggests the Vikings expect him back early in the season. With sixth-round rookie David Morgan playing well behind Kyle Rudolph and MyCole Pruitt, the Vikings could end up keeping four tight ends.

Vikings placed TE Rhett Ellison (patellar tendon) on the active/PUP list.

Ellison tore the patellar tendon in last year's regular season finale. The 27-year-old will serve as an H-back/blocking tight end when he returns.

Vikings H-back Rhett Ellison (patellar tendon) anticipates making a full recovery.

Ellison missed the entire offseason after January surgery. Despite coming off a career-threatening injury, the Vikings saw enough to give him a one-year, $2.25M deal. Ellison will have a blocking role when healthy.

Vikings re-signed TE Rhett Ellison to a one-year, $2.25 million contract.

That is a lot of money to pay a blocking tight end who tore his patellar tendon in January. The deal likely includes several incentives or an injury split. He is a candidate to open the season on the PUP list.

Vikings placed TE Rhett Ellison (knee) on injured reserve.

It’s a formality after Ellison suffered a torn patellar tendon in Week 17. A block-only tight end, Ellison’s career is in doubt.

Vikings TE Rhett Ellison suffered a torn patellar tendon in Sunday night's win over the Packers.

He's done for the year. It's a potentially career-threatening injury with Ellison a free agent after the season. Ellison's loss is a downgrade to Adrian Peterson and Minnesota's run game.

Rhett Ellison caught both of his targets for 18 yards and a touchdown in the Vikings' Week 10 win over the Raiders.

The 11-yard touchdown he caught was his first since Week 11 of the 2014 campaign. Ellison is a blocking tight end who rarely catches passes. He's not someone we blurb about very often.

Vikings fourth-round TE Rhett Ellison will undergo an MRI after injuring his knee in Friday's preseason game.

Ellison's injury isn't believed to be of the season-ending variety. Ticketed for the third string behind Kyle Rudolph and John Carlson, Ellison has four catches for 27 yards through three exhibition games.

Vikings signed fourth-round TE Rhett Ellison to a four-year contract.

The 6'5", 251-pounder played tight end, fullback, and even the slot for USC. While he's not a long-term fantasy prospect, the Vikings drafted Ellison as the latest model in the Jim Kleinsasser H-back mold.
Tue, May 22, 2012 06:09:00 PM

Vikings selected TE/FB Rhett Ellison with the No. 128 overall pick in the 2012 NFL draft.

The son of former 49ers LB Riki Ellison, Rhett is a favorite of NFL Network's Mike Mayock among the H-back prospects. Ellison is a polished prospect with solid pass protection and fine hands, but he's more of a role player with limited speed, lacking in downfield ability. He'll help the Vikings more than fantasy leaguers.
