The Vikings have informed TE Rhett Ellison that he will be their starting fullback if free agent Jerome Felton departs.
The Vikings want to re-sign Felton, but have a contingency plan if he prices himself out of Minnesota's range. Ellison, 24, flashed big-time blocking ability on 23.7 percent of the offensive snaps last season. He was primarily an H-back. Mar 11 - 12:59 AM

Vikings fourth-round TE Rhett Ellison will undergo an MRI after injuring his knee in Friday's preseason game.

Ellison's injury isn't believed to be of the season-ending variety. Ticketed for the third string behind Kyle Rudolph and John Carlson, Ellison has four catches for 27 yards through three exhibition games.

Vikings signed fourth-round TE Rhett Ellison to a four-year contract.

The 6'5", 251-pounder played tight end, fullback, and even the slot for USC. While he's not a long-term fantasy prospect, the Vikings drafted Ellison as the latest model in the Jim Kleinsasser H-back mold.

Vikings selected TE/FB Rhett Ellison with the No. 128 overall pick in the 2012 NFL draft.

The son of former 49ers LB Riki Ellison, Rhett is a favorite of NFL Network's Mike Mayock among the H-back prospects. Ellison is a polished prospect with solid pass protection and fine hands, but he's more of a role player with limited speed, lacking in downfield ability. He'll help the Vikings more than fantasy leaguers.
