Raiders released LB Miles Burris.
A fourth-round pick of the Raiders in 2012, Burris started 31 games (including all 16 last year) and finished with 142 tackles. He became expendable when the Raiders drafted LBs Ben Heeney, Neiron Ball, and Max Valles over the weekend. Mon, May 4, 2015 12:24:00 PM

Raiders LB Miles Burris is fully healthy and has been mixing in with the first-team defense at weak-side linebacker.

Burris missed all but six games with a knee injury last season and played just 42 defensive snaps. As a fourth-round rookie in 2012, he started 15-of-16 games and recorded 96 tackles and 1.5 sacks. Kevin Burnett, last year's starting weak-side 'backer, is still on the roster and is coming off a strong season. Sio Moore, who manned the strong side in 2013, is also in the mix at WILL with Khalil Mack expected to occupy the SAM spot as a rookie.

Raiders LB Miles Burris sustained an ankle injury in Sunday's Week 15 loss to the Chiefs.

Burris was injured while covering a punt midway through the fourth quarter. The reserve 'backer who started the year on reserve/PUP following knee surgery has three tackles in four games.

Raiders activated LB Miles Burris (knee surgery) from reserve/PUP.

Burris underwent some sort of knee operation in January, though the Raiders never provided details of the procedure. He can play all three linebacker spots and will provide depth behind starters Sio Moore, Nick Roach, and Kevin Burnett.

Raiders LB Miles Burris (knee, reserve/PUP) is targeting a Week 7 return.

Burris is still working his way back from offseason knee surgery, but hasn't had any setbacks and could be activated when first eligible. He struggled mightily as a rookie starter in 2012 and will provide depth at all three linebacker spots.

Raiders placed LB Miles Burris (knee surgery) on the reserve/PUP list.

Burris has been recuperating since January. Burris struggled as a rookie starter last season, and won't be returning to a starting job whenever he finally gets healthy.

Raiders coach Dennis Allen is concerned second-year LB Miles Burris (knee surgery) won't be ready for Week 1.

Slated to be Oakland's top backup at all three linebacker positions, Burris has been painfully slow to recover from January knee surgery. He may be headed for the reserve/PUP list. "Miles has not progressed like he or I had anticipated," Allen said. "He’s probably, from the standpoint of whether he’s going to be ready for the opening game of the season, he’s a concern."

Raiders LB Miles Burris is missing early camp practices due to ongoing rehabilitation from right knee surgery.

Burris had the surgery way back in January, so he's far behind schedule. He didn't take part in any spring workouts. A rookie starter in 2012, Burris struggled mightily and is not being counted on with the 2013 first-team defense.

Raiders LB Miles Burris is missing time at OTAs after an offseason knee surgery.

It's believed he underwent surgery in January, although the extent of the operation was never revealed. "Scopes" don't usually sideline players for four months. Burris has lost his starting job after Oakland's offseason linebacker signings. A 2012 fourth-round pick, he struggled mightily as a rookie.

Raiders WLB Miles Burris underwent an offseason knee procedure.

GM Reggie McKenzie gave no details on the surgery. Taking over the weak-side position from Aaron Curry, the fourth-rounder started all 16 games as a rookie. Burris graded out as the NFL's least effective 4-3 outside linebacker in Pro Football Focus' ratings.

Coach Dennis Allen said he might move weak-side linebacker Miles Burris to the middle this offseason.

Rolando McClain is not expected back in Oakland due to attitude issues, leaving a hole in the middle. Burris, a fourth-round rookie, struggled despite collecting 89 tackles in 14 starts. Expect the Raiders to replace McClain from outside the organization.

Fourth-round pick Miles Burris has worked as the Raiders' starting weak-side linebacker throughout training camp.

He had four tackles in Oakland's first two preseason games. Usual WLB Aaron Curry is suddenly on the bubble due to recurring knee woes, leaving Burris as the favorite to start in Week 1. Rolando McClain is locked in as the Raiders' starting middle linebacker. Philip Wheeler is starting on the strong side.

Raiders signed fourth-round LB Miles Burris to a four-year contract.

In a pre-draft sleeper article, NFL Films' Greg Cosell called Burris "one of my favorite players to watch on tape" for his intensity, versatility, and skill as a "speed/power rusher." Burris has worked behind WLB Aaron Curry in OTAs, but he could be the Raiders' strong-side linebacker of the future.

The Raiders are using fourth-round pick Miles Burris strictly at outside linebacker during OTAs.

A relentless pass rusher at San Diego State, Burris' best position in the long term probably projects as SAM 'backer. In Tuesday's practice, Burris worked with the first-team defense at weak-side linebacker with Aaron Curry getting time off. Burris is learning both outside spots during the instructional workouts.
Wed, May 23, 2012 02:05:00 PM

Raiders selected San Diego State LB Miles Burris with the No. 129 overall pick in the 2012 NFL draft.

One of the toughest players in the draft, Burris boasts a high football intelligence and work ethic while measuring in at 6'2/246 pounds. However, he is a limited athlete and tends to grind out his pressures off the edge. Burris may play the strong side linebacker position with the Raiders but is limited in coverage. A potential situational pass rusher early in his career, Burris finished with eight sacks last season and was always around the ball.
