Packers DE Mike Daniels is now a starter in base defenses.
Daniels quietly emerged as an up-and-coming stud last season, grading out as a top-six 3-4 end per PFF and posting 6.5 sacks despite playing on just 49 percent of the snaps. If he can get up around 75 percent of the snaps as the end complement to NT B.J. Raji, we're confident production will follow. IDP owners should be tracking Daniels' progress closely. He's a breakout candidate. Aug 1 - 11:07 AM

The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel believes third-year DE Mike Daniels is an "emerging star."

Daniels was drafted by Green Bay in 2012 as a questionable 3-4 fit at 6-foot-1 and 291 pounds, but has bulked up to 300 and in 2013 emerged as an impact player in both run and pass defense. Although he made just one start, Daniels played 49 percent of the Packers' defensive snaps and graded out as a top-six 3-4 end per Pro Football Focus. He finished with 23 tackles and 6.5 sacks.

According to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, fourth-round pick DT Mike Daniels "doesn't have a position" in the Packers' base scheme.

Respected beat writer Bob McGinn believes Daniels is too short to play five-technique tackle, and "not stout enough" to play nose. McGinn thinks Daniels will serve as a "designated inside pass rusher." At under 6-foot-1 and 291 pounds, that's indeed likely to be Daniels' future.

Packers selected Iowa DT Mike Daniels with the No. 132 overall pick in the 2012 NFL draft.

A two-year starter, Daniels is a high-motor player who needs to add weight to his 6-foot-1, 291 pound frame to be successful in the NFL. He is quick with great instincts, however, and could see snaps in pass-rushing situations as a rookie. Daniels won't be an asset against the run unless he's able to bulk up.
