Vikings WR Greg Childs (torn patellar tendons) has resumed sprinting and cutting.
"All the necessary things I need to be doing, I'm doing now," Childs said. "I still do my cuts and my runs full speed. There is no change in the way I run or the way I play. My routes are still the same." Despite the progress, Childs admits he's not close to 100 percent. The Vikings are operating under the assumption Childs "may never play a meaningful down in the NFL." So should fantasy owners. May 1 - 2:12 PM

According to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, the Vikings are operating under the assumption WR Greg Childs (torn patellar tendons) "may never play a meaningful down in the NFL."

Childs tore both tendons in brutal fashion last camp. The injury came after he tore his right patellar tendon in 2010. Coach Leslie Frazier said in February that it would be a "monumental surprise if Greg Childs somehow, some way came back and was a factor." Childs is off the radar in Dynasty leagues.

Vikings WR Greg Childs' (torn patellar tendons) status remains "fluid."

"We'll see how he's progressing," GM Rick Spielman said. "He's working extremely hard. It's like a month-to-month thing, where he's coming. That will be yet to be determined." Childs suffered rare bilateral tendon tears in training camp, and the odds are heavily stacked against him ever making a full recovery.

Vikings coach Leslie Frazier hasn't given up hope that WR Greg Childs (torn patellar tendons, I.R.) will help the team in the future.

"We think he's going to be a good player for us [in the future]," said Frazier. "Jarius Wright [Childs' Arkansas teammate] has come on for us here of late, and we're hoping he's going to turn out to be a good player." Childs was once a massive talent, but he's facing long odds after tearing both patellar tendons -- his right one for the second time.

Vikings waived/injured WR Greg Childs.

They re-signed undrafted WR A.J. Love in a corresponding move. Childs, the 134th overall pick in April's draft, will miss his entire rookie season with double patellar tendon tears after rupturing his right patellar tendon as a junior at Arkansas. We wouldn't rule him out after he came back from the first one, but the odds are heavily against Childs having an NFL career.

Vikings.com has confirmed that rookie WR Greg Childs suffered a torn patellar tendon in both knees.

He's now torn his right patellar tendon twice (once in college), and the left patellar tendon once. Childs is done for the year and will have surgery on both knees in the next few days. Despite rigorous rehab, Browns CB Gary Baxter never made it back after suffering the same injury as Childs in October of 2006. Unless your league has an I.R. spot to burn, Childs should be dropped even in deep Dynasty leagues. Michael Jenkins and Stephen Burton figure to be the frontrunners to start opposite Percy Harvin while Jerome Simpson serves his three-game suspension. The Vikings could also turn to the trade market to acquire a field-stretching wideout.

Two sources tell ESPN 1500 Twin Cities that Vikings rookie WR Greg Childs is "almost surely" done for the year after suffering a "significant" injury to both knees during Saturday's camp practice.

The Vikings fear Childs tore both patellar tendons. It's a devastating, career-threatening blow for a player who labored through a patellar tendon tear as a senior in college and fell at least two rounds in the draft because of it. The Vikings were hoping Childs would secure the first-team split end job in suspended starter Jerome Simpson's three-game absence, but they'll have to turn elsewhere now. They may explore the free agent or trade market at receiver. The organization has soured on Michael Jenkins, and remains desperate for a wideout capable of stretching the field.

Vikings rookie WR Greg Childs was carted off with an apparent leg injury in Saturday's training camp practice.

According to ESPN 1500's Tom Pelissero, Childs became awkwardly twisted with a defensive back while extending for a downfield catch. It's not clear at this point whether this is related to the knee injury that shortened Childs' junior season and crushed his draft stock. Trainers were seen checking out both of Childs' knees. "I don't have any information of exactly what happened and what his state is," coach Leslie Frazier said. "Greg has struggled with injuries as we all know. Hopefully, things will work out and it's nothing serious."

According to ESPN 1500 Twin Cities, rookie WR Greg Childs "has always been the in-house favorite" to start opposite Percy Harvin during Jerome Simpson's three-game suspension.

It's interesting that veteran Michael Jenkins, due $2.5 million while coming off knee surgery, has been swept aside. It's another sign that Jenkins is on the roster bubble. Childs has dropped several balls early on, but he made the play of camp in Thursday's practice. We want to see more consistency before recommending Childs as a late-round flier for September.

The Vikings believe fourth-round WR Greg Childs is finally "100 percent" recovered from his 2010 patellar tendon tear.

Childs labored through the injury as a college senior, running with a hitch in his gait and failing to produce. It's why he fell to the fourth round. Childs' pre-injury college tape was more on par with a late first- or second-round pick. He may open the season as a starter while Jerome Simpson is suspended.

ESPN 1500 believes fourth-round rookie Greg Childs is the top option to fill in at split end while Jerome Simpson is suspended.

Simpson is not eligible to play until Week 4. Childs has the size at 6'3/219 and a 4.55 40 to go with it, but he's been battling a knee injury since his junior year at Arkansas. He also missed the majority of the offseason program due to a calf strain. Childs will have to prove his health and beat out Stephen Burton/Emmanuel Arceneaux at training camp.

Vikings fourth-round WR Greg Childs (calf strain) has resumed practicing at minicamp.

In the tradition of former Vikes RB Onterrio Smith, Childs declared himself the steal of the draft in late April. A week later, he went down with a calf strain at rookie minicamp. Childs should have no limitations heading into training camp.

Vikings rookie WR Greg Childs remains sidelined by a calf strain at OTAs.

He's been out since rookie camp in early May. "He's missing some valuable time, but at the same time, that can happen as a wide receiver," coach Leslie Frazier said. Childs' injury is a concern because he battled a significant knee injury late in his junior season and throughout his senior campaign at Arkansas.

Vikings fourth-round WR Greg Childs is sitting out OTAs with a calf strain sustained during rookie minicamp in early May.

The injury is said to be unrelated to the torn patellar tendon that required an 18-month recovery period across Childs' junior and senior seasons at Arkansas. Although Childs is an early-round talent, he remains a major question mark going forward due to the injuries.
Fri, Jun 1, 2012 10:11:00 AM

Vikings rookie WR Greg Childs believes his disappointing senior year at Arkansas was due in part to returning too quickly from his torn patella tendon.

Childs suffered the injury in October 2010, but was ready for the beginning of the 2011 season. He notched only 21 catches for 240 yards after going for at least 46/659 each of the previous two years. Childs says he's 100 percent now, and playing with a "very big chip on my shoulder." Impressively built at 6-foot-3, 219, Childs clocked a 4.55 in the 40, and could see some snaps outside as a rookie.
