Ex-Vikings WR Greg Childs passed through waivers unclaimed.
The "risk" to put in a waiver claim would've been his scheduled bare-minimum salary of $570,000 with no guarantees, so the fact that he fetched zero interest suggests the NFL has thrown in the towel on Childs. With bad knees and no catches through two pro seasons, Childs' career is likely over before it began. Fri, Mar 7, 2014 04:45:00 PM

Vikings waived WR Greg Childs.

A 2012 fourth-rounder, Childs has never appeared in an NFL game after suffering double patellar tendon tears. He spent all of 2013 on the PUP list. Although he's only 24 (on Monday), Childs' career is likely through.

Vikings left WR Greg Childs (knee surgeries) on the PUP list, ending his season.

Childs never made enough progress from double patellar tendon tears to return and contribute in 2013. A 2012 fourth-round pick, Childs has yet to appear in an NFL game. He lacks fantasy value even in the deepest Dynasty leagues.

Vikings placed WR Greg Childs on reserve/PUP.

Childs has torn each of his patellar tendons going back to his junior year at Arkansas. He still hasn't returned to practice, and will miss at least the first six weeks. Given the severity of his injuries, Childs is a longshot to ever make an impact for the Vikings.

The Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports the Vikings are uncertain if WR Greg Childs (knees) will come off the PUP list before the regular season.

Per beat writer Dan Wiederer, it's "iffy at best" that Childs takes the field in training camp. Beginning the regular season on the PUP list would cost Childs at least six games. Coming off double patellar tendon tears, we're still skeptical Childs will play at all this season.

Vikings placed WR Greg Childs (knees) on the active/PUP list.

Childs isn't yet ready to practice after being limited in OTAs and minicamp. He's recovering from double patellar tendon tears, but is expected to be medically cleared at some point during training camp.

Vikings WR Greg Childs (torn patellar tendons) is up to 225 pounds.

Childs is listed at 217 on the team's official website, but what makes it so much more impressive is that he had dipped all the way to 180 last winter. Childs was recovering from double patellar tendon tears, and the pain medicine made him sick to his stomach. He's now lifting "crazy weight, like lineman weight" as his recovery is ongoing. Childs could be medically cleared for the start of training camp, but any contributions in 2013 would be a surprise.

Vikings WR Greg Childs (torn patellar tendons) could be medically cleared for the start of training camp.

Childs has been sprinting and cutting since last month and caught passes in front of reporters following Tuesday's OTA practice. Just 10 months removed from his second major knee surgery, the Vikings will continue to exercise caution, but an early-August return hasn't been ruled out. "I'm waiting on our medical staff to give us the green light," coach Leslie Frazier said. "We'll see what happens. I'm not sure what direction it will go."

Vikings WR Greg Childs (torn patellar tendons) caught passes in front of reporters following Tuesday's OTA practice.

He also dunked a ball over the crossbar before exiting the field. "I've been cutting like that for a good little while now," Childs said. "I'm taking it day by day. I feel good, but at the same time, the Vikings aren't rushing me. That's why I'm doing so well now." He remains a long shot for any substantive 2013 impact.

Vikings WR Greg Childs (torn patellar tendons) has resumed sprinting and cutting.

"All the necessary things I need to be doing, I'm doing now," Childs said. "I still do my cuts and my runs full speed. There is no change in the way I run or the way I play. My routes are still the same." Despite the progress, Childs admits he's not close to 100 percent. The Vikings are operating under the assumption Childs "may never play a meaningful down in the NFL." So should fantasy owners.

According to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, the Vikings are operating under the assumption WR Greg Childs (torn patellar tendons) "may never play a meaningful down in the NFL."

Childs tore both tendons in brutal fashion last camp. The injury came after he tore his right patellar tendon in 2010. Coach Leslie Frazier said in February that it would be a "monumental surprise if Greg Childs somehow, some way came back and was a factor." Childs is off the radar in Dynasty leagues.

Vikings WR Greg Childs' (torn patellar tendons) status remains "fluid."

"We'll see how he's progressing," GM Rick Spielman said. "He's working extremely hard. It's like a month-to-month thing, where he's coming. That will be yet to be determined." Childs suffered rare bilateral tendon tears in training camp, and the odds are heavily stacked against him ever making a full recovery.
Thu, Feb 21, 2013 03:25:00 PM

Vikings coach Leslie Frazier hasn't given up hope that WR Greg Childs (torn patellar tendons, I.R.) will help the team in the future.

"We think he's going to be a good player for us [in the future]," said Frazier. "Jarius Wright [Childs' Arkansas teammate] has come on for us here of late, and we're hoping he's going to turn out to be a good player." Childs was once a massive talent, but he's facing long odds after tearing both patellar tendons -- his right one for the second time.

Vikings waived/injured WR Greg Childs.

They re-signed undrafted WR A.J. Love in a corresponding move. Childs, the 134th overall pick in April's draft, will miss his entire rookie season with double patellar tendon tears after rupturing his right patellar tendon as a junior at Arkansas. We wouldn't rule him out after he came back from the first one, but the odds are heavily against Childs having an NFL career.

Vikings.com has confirmed that rookie WR Greg Childs suffered a torn patellar tendon in both knees.

He's now torn his right patellar tendon twice (once in college), and the left patellar tendon once. Childs is done for the year and will have surgery on both knees in the next few days. Despite rigorous rehab, Browns CB Gary Baxter never made it back after suffering the same injury as Childs in October of 2006. Unless your league has an I.R. spot to burn, Childs should be dropped even in deep Dynasty leagues. Michael Jenkins and Stephen Burton figure to be the frontrunners to start opposite Percy Harvin while Jerome Simpson serves his three-game suspension. The Vikings could also turn to the trade market to acquire a field-stretching wideout.
