Bengals signed No. 156 overall pick CB Shaun Prater to a four-year contract.

For a small corner (5'10/185), Prater held his own in run support as a sure tackler at Iowa. He rarely played man coverage, however. The Bengals drafted him with his outside gunner experience in mind for help on special teams.

Bengals selected Iowa CB Shaun Prater with the No. 156 overall pick in the 2012 NFL draft.

Prater is small (5'10/190) with short arms and essentially zero experience as anything other than an off-zone corner coming from Kirk Ferentz's defense. He was a 35-game starter with seven career interceptions and runs pretty well (4.49-4.53), and could be ticketed for a slot corner role down the line. Prater figures to focus on special teams as a rookie in Cincinnati.
