ESPN's Sheil Kapadia considers Seahawks CB Jeremy Lane the clear favorite to start opposite Richard Sherman.
Lane was expected to face stiff competition from third-rounder Shaq Griffin, but has evidently seized control of the job. Per Kapadia, Lane has been "arguably the team's most impressive player through the first three practices." Lane wasn't great in the slot last year, but it's likely he'll kick inside in nickel situations. Aug 1 - 6:41 PM

Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times believes CB Jeremy Lane has a "sizeable edge" in the battle to start opposite Richard Sherman.

Lane was not particularly good as a slot corner last season, but he earned praise from coach Pete Carroll for his work this offseason. He will need to beat out third-round CB Shaq Griffin and Neiko Thorpe for the job. Regardless of if he wins the "starting" job, Lane will be the primary slot corner in sub packages.

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll confirmed Jeremy Lane is the early favorite to start opposite Richard Sherman.

"Jeremy has really applied himself," said Carroll. "He sees the opportunity. Across the board, everybody’s evaluation is that he’s really focused, really tuned in, he’s really ready to go for it." Lane is coming off a disastrious 2016, getting exposed as a tackler and grading near the bottom of PFF's ratings. Scheme familiarity and veteran status are working in his favor with Deshawn Shead (knee) sidelined. Rookie Shaq Griffin will push Lane in training camp.

Seahawks CB Jeremy Lane's $4 million salary became guaranteed on Friday.

Lane had a rough year for Seattle, grading out as PFF's 104th cornerback out of 120 qualifiers. Coach Pete Carroll criticized Lane's tackling, but praised him for competing his "tail off." With RCB Deshawn Shead's (knee) status up in the air for Week 1, keeping Lane was a no-brainer for the Seahawks.
Feb 11 - 10:28 AM

Seahawks re-signed CB Jeremy Lane to a four-year, $23 million contract.

The deal includes $11 million guaranteed. Turning 26 this July, Lane is a quality young slot corner whose durability limited his market value. He was a difference maker when healthy down the stretch of last season, however, playing stingy slot coverage and intercepting two passes in the final six games. The Seahawks' secondary should return intact with Richard Sherman and Deshawn Shead at outside corner, Lane in the slot, and Earl Thomas and Kam Chancellor manning the safeties.

Seahawks activated CB Jeremy Lane (knee) from reserve/PUP.

Lane missed the first 10 games, but has been practicing the last few weeks. He’ll make his season debut Sunday against the Steelers. Seattle waived Bryce Brown in a corresponding move.

Coach Pete Carroll said the Seahawks will activate CB Jeremy Lane (knee) off reserve/PUP this week.

He's been practicing the past couple weeks after tearing his ACL in last season's Super Bowl. Lane is expected to push burn victim CB Cary Williams and slot CB DeShawn Shead for snaps behind shutdown CB Richard Sherman.

Seahawks placed CB Jeremy Lane (arm, knee) on the reserve/PUP list.

Lane tore his ACL and broke his arm making one of the best plays of the Super Bowl. It's more likely than not that Seattle's would-be slot corner spends the entire year on reserve/PUP.

Seahawks CB Jeremy Lane (arm, knee) has experienced setbacks in his recovery.

Lane won't be ready for training camp and seems doubtful for Week 1 coming off a broken arm and torn ACL. Will Blackmon or Marcus Burley will open the season as the slot corner between LCB Richard Sherman and RCB Cary Williams.

Seahawks CB Jeremy Lane has had a setback with his broken arm.

Also recovering from a torn ACL, Lane was already highly doubtful for Week 1. Now he's all but assured of beginning the year on the reserve/PUP list. Will Blackmon is running as the starting nickel back in Lane's absence. It's quite possible Lane misses all of 2015.
Tue, May 26, 2015 05:09:00 PM

ESPN Seahawks reporter Terry Blount said CB Jeremy Lane (arm) will "probably" be out until midseason.

Lane is pretty banged up after surgery on both his ACL and wrist. With Lane out of commission, newcomer Cary Williams will start opposite Richard Sherman at cornerback. Lane played 186 snaps in 2014, receiving a positive grade in coverage from Pro Football Focus. He's Seattle's slot corner.

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said CB Jeremy Lane is unlikely to be ready for the start of the season.

Lane suffered a "significant" broken arm and torn ACL after picking off Tom Brady in Super Bowl XLIX. It is likely Lane will open the season on the reserve/PUP list, costing him at least the first six games of the year. Newly-signed Cary Williams will start opposite Richard Sherman.

Updating an earlier item, Seahawks CB Jeremy Lane's knee surgery was to repair a torn ACL.

It's a horrendous break for Lane, who was already dealing with a "significant" broken arm. Lane suffered both injuries picking off Tom Brady early in Super Bowl XLIX. Lane is now highly doubtful for Week 1, and will likely begin the year on the reserve/PUP list, costing him six games. With RCB Byron Maxwell possibly leaving in free agency, the Seahawks may have to replace two of their top three corners.

Seahawks CB Jeremy Lane (knee surgery) is questionable for Week 1.

Lane injured both his arm and knee in the Super Bowl. With Byron Maxwell set for free agency, cornerback has suddenly become a need position in Seattle.
Thu, Feb 19, 2015 12:04:00 PM

Seahawks CB Jeremy Lane has been diagnosed with a "significant" broken arm.

This was immediately apparent after Lane went down following his first-quarter interception in Sunday's Super Bowl loss. Specifically, Lane has a compound fracture in his wrist. Nevertheless, coach Pete Carroll expects Lane to be "fine" long-term. Lane's presence was badly missed against the Pats, as fill-in Tharold Simon struggled mightily in his place. A 2012 sixth-rounder, Lane is going into the final year of his rookie contract after a groin injury limited him to seven games in 2014.
