Seahawks signed K Blair Walsh.
Steven Hauschka is a free agent, so Walsh could have the inside track to Seattle's 2017 starting job. It won't be assured after he bombed out of Minnesota in 2016, but Walsh has usually been one of the league's better kickers since arriving in the NFL in 2012. He has had two years of hiccups, with 2014 accompanying 2016. Walsh has a huge leg. He'd be an asset if he can get right. Feb 9 - 4:31 PM

Vikings released K Blair Walsh.

Walsh exploded onto the scene by earning All-Pro honors as a rookie in 2012. Since then, it's been all downhill. Walsh missed a chip shot that would have won the game against Seattle in the playoffs last year and has already shanked four field goals this season. His missed extra point against the Redskins in Week 10 was the final nail in his coffin. The Vikings put Walsh on notice by working out several kickers last week, so the news hardly comes as a surprise. Look for the Vikes to sign a kicker within the next 24 hours.

Blair Walsh will remain the Vikings' kicker for Week 10.

The Vikings worked out Randy Bullock, Kai Forbath, Zach Hocker and Travis Coons, among others, but will stick with their struggling kicker. Walsh, who cost the Vikings a playoff game last season, is just 12-of-16 on field goal attempts, and has shown signs of cracking under the media glare. It's far from assured he'll finish the year in Minnesota.

NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reports the Vikings are working out kickers this week.

Blair Walsh missed his third extra point of the season against the Lions and had a field goal blocked in the fourth quarter. Walsh will likely keep his job, but the Vikings are certainly putting him on notice.

Blair Walsh converted 4-of-6 field goals and 1-of-2 extra points in the Vikings' Week 1 win over the Titans.

It was a shaky first outing for Walsh, who missed a 27-yarder which would have sent the Vikings to the Divisional Round last January. He pulled that kick badly left, and his first two attempts this week were badly shanked left as well. The second kick was from 56 yards, however, and he was a perfect 4-for-4 on field goals in the second half, although he did miss an extra point. Despite the shaky start, Walsh should keep his job, but the Vikings cannot have much confidence in their kicker right now.

Vikings GM Rick Spielman insists the team hasn't lost confidence in K Blair Walsh.

Walsh recovered from a shaky 2014 during the regular season, but had one of the worst missed field goals in NFL history in the Wild Card round, shanking a 27-yarder that would have advanced the Vikings. "I understand him missing that last kick (drew criticism), but I also know we wouldn’t have been in that situation if he didn’t kick the three before in those conditions," Spielman said. "Our organization and our coaches have confidence in Blair." Walsh should begin 2016 as Minnesota's kicker, but will likely be on a short leash.

Vikings coach Mike Zimmer said there is no question Blair Walsh is the team's kicker.

Walsh missed another kick in the final preseason game and has now six missed field goals and a missed extra point this preseason. Walsh converted just 5-of-10 attempts over the final four games of last season. While Zimmer is not publically expressing concern, the team has to be discussing other options behind the scenes. Walsh is a risky fantasy bet to start the season.

Blair Walsh has made just 7-of-16 field goals since Week 14 of last year and 2-of-6 during the Vikings' three preseason games.

Walsh went 0-for-3 in Saturday's preseason game and even missed one of his extra-point attempts. "It didn’t feel real good with how I hit the ball obviously, and the results showed that," said Walsh. "I have to do better. Preseason or regular season, that cannot happen, and I know that." The Vikings have to be at least a little concerned with Walsh after signing him to a four-year extension last month.

Vikings signed K Blair Walsh to a four-year, $13 million extension through 2019.

He can earn another $1 million through incentives. As Walsh was previously under contract for 2015 at $660,000, he's now signed for the next five years at $13.66 million. The deal contains $5.25 million guaranteed. 25-year-old Walsh is one of the best young kickers in football. Through three NFL seasons, Walsh has a field-goal rate of 84.5 percent. He should get a fantasy boost this year with Minnesota likely to make strides on offense.

Vikings K Blair Walsh said his agent has had "a little bit of communication" recently with the team about a contract extension.

Walsh was one of the best kickers in the league during his first two seasons, connecting on 61-of-68 field goals (89.7 percent) between 2012 and 2013. That included a 12-of-17 mark from 50+ yards out. Walsh regressed a bit last year, missing three kicks from inside 40 yards and only going 5-of-9 from 50+. That could make negotiations a bit sticky as he heads into a contract season.

Vikings K Blair Walsh (hamstring) was held out of Thursday's practice.

The injury is to Walsh's plant leg, and is the same issue he played through in Week 6. Barring a setback, he'll start Monday night's game against the Giants.

Vikings K Blair Walsh (hamstring) is active for Sunday's Week 6 game against the Panthers.

Walsh tweaked his non-kicking hammy in practice this week, but he's fine and a very solid fantasy kicking option. Walsh is 43-of-47 on field goals to start his NFL career.

Vikings K Blair Walsh was added to Thursday's injury report, getting in a limited session with a left (non-kicking) hamstring issue.

Walsh tweaked his leg in practice, but coach Leslie Frazier told the Minneapolis Star-Tribune he expects him to kick on Sunday against the Panthers. You can leave the game's best kicker penciled into your lineup.

Vikings K Blair Walsh is now 12-of-12 from 50+ yards out in his career.

Walsh banged a 54-yarder against the Steelers in London Sunday. He now holds the team record for most field goals of 50+ yards in his career despite playing in just 20 games. Walsh will be a fine fantasy kicking option when the Vikings come out of their bye against the Panthers in Week 6.

Vikings rookie K Blair Walsh has set an NFL record by going 9-of-9 on field goals from 50 yards or longer this season.

Fellow rookie Greg "Legatron" Zuerlein has gotten the publicity this year, but Walsh has been better. He hit from a career-long 56 yards out in Sunday's win over the Texans and is now 32-of-35 on the season overall. Zuerlein is "just" 7-of-12 from 50-plus and 21-of-28 overall.
