Free agent SS Clinton Hart will not face charges stemming from an April arrest for battery/domestic violence.
Reminiscent of Falcons OL Quinn Ojinnaka's incident from last offseason, the quarrel began with messages from another woman popping up on Hart's Facebook page. His wife "didn't want to cooperate with prosecutors," so the State Attorney's Office will not pursue charges. Tue, Jun 1, 2010 12:55:00 PM

Unrestricted free agent SS Clinton Hart is apparently being held without bond after being arrested for domestic battery.

After declining badly with the Chargers, Hart latched on briefly with the Rams last season. Now 32, he's unlikely to get any nibbles on the open market. This arrest surely won't help.

Rams signed SS Clinton Hart.

Despite a hefty contract, Hart lost his job in San Diego and was cut. He's been on the street since October 14, but the desperate Rams need safety help with O.J. Atogwe (shoulder) possibly done for the season.

Chargers released SS Clinton Hart.

Bolts GM A.J. Smith doesn't make many personnel mistakes, but handing Hart a six-year, $18M extension in 2008 was one of them. Hart simply couldn't cover anyone, loved biting on play-action fakes, and completely lost his confidence. Steve Gregory and rookie Kevin Ellison are options to step in.

Chargers SS Clinton Hart is expected to keep his starting job, but lose snaps on passing downs to Steve Gregory.

It's an IDP situation to avoid. Like Roy Williams used to in Dallas, Hart will play on first and second down, then come off the field on thirds. It's because he's a liability in coverage. His big-play potential is minimal.

Chargers SS Clinton Hart blames his struggles in 2008 on playing hurt.

Hart did break a bone in his hand in September and seemed to never get over a Week 13 stinger, but blaming bad years on injury sure is common among San Diego defensive backs. After being relentlessly burnt by tight ends in 2008, Hart will have to hold off rookie Kevin Ellison to keep his job.

Chargers S Clinton Hart admits that the coaching staff has lost confidence in him, and that he's lost confidence in himself.

Terrible coverage cost Hart his starting job down the stretch last year and the team drafted Kevin Ellison as a potential long-term replacement. "The coaches have lost faith in me," he said. "I've lost a little faith in myself."

The Chargers are expected to address the strong safety position this offseason.

Incumbent Clinton Hart lost his job in December. There's far more talent at safety in this year's draft than last year and with the Bolts having lots of money to commit elsewhere on the roster they may have to start a rookie in 2009.

Chargers SS Clinton Hart (shoulder) is expected to return to the lineup Sunday at Tampa Bay.

Steve Gregory heads back to the bench. The Chargers secondary remains a good matchup for the Bucs passing game regardless of Hart's return.

Chargers declared SS Clinton Hart, QB Charlie Whitehurst, RB Michael Bennett, FB Mike Tolbert, LB Anthony Waters, G Kynan Forney, T Corey Clark and DT Ian Scott inactive for Week 15 against the Chiefs.

Hart's absence is good news for Tony Gonzalez, who now has just about the most favorable possible matchup.

Chargers SS Clinton Hart (neck) is not expected to play Sunday against the Chiefs.

That means Tony Gonzalez will draw plenty of 5'11", 185 pound backup Steve Gregory in coverage. The Chargers already have enough problems stopping tight ends even with a healthy Hart. Just hope you're not playing against Gonzalez in your fantasy playoffs this week.

Chargers SS Clinton Hart is still experiencing discomfort from a stinger he suffered last week and could miss Thursday night's game in Oakland.

"We have some young guys who are healthy and ready to go play," Hart said. "I'm not going to jeopardize it." Steve Gregory would get the nod if Hart is declared inactive.

Chargers SS Clinton Hart suffered a stinger in the team's Week 13 loss.

Hart, a liability in coverage all year, is uncertain for Week 14 against the Raiders. Zach Miller should have a solid day whether or not Hart plays.

Chargers' safety Clinton Hart had surgery early Monday on a broken bone in his hand, but says he plans to play.

"I'm gonna do my best with it," he said. The Chargers' defense needs all hands on deck after being shredded by Jay Cutler in a Week 2 loss.

Chargers signed SS Clinton Hart to a five-year extension through 2012. Profootballtalk.com reports the deal is worth about $3 million a year.

Hart, who was originally undrafted, paid his dues on special teams before taking over as a full-time player in 2007. He finished third on the Bolts with 85 stops and picked off five passes. Hart isn't an elite IDP bet behind a stingy and talented front seven, but has emerged as a quality NFL starter.
